The Loch Fyne Hotel is situated on the shores of Loch Fyne in Inverary. A building of historical significance, it was commandeered during World War 2 and was the only place outside of 10 Downing Street that Winston Churchill ever convened a War Cabinet. The hotel is... more

Enjoyable stay
Quality of room, food and surroundings were greatly enjoyed by ourselves and friends . Perhaps during more off-season dates there is a shortage of staff - thus justifying less favourable comments noted in various earlier reports. Would have no hesitation in returning or recommending this establishment.
Very good
We stayed at the Loch Fyne over the last Easter holiday weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel has a spectacular setting and the staff are warm and friendly. Our room was in the old part of the hotel and ws a bit on the pokey side but perfectly clean and adequate for us. The leisure facilities are a great bonus. We stayed for 2 nights, adn ate in the hotel on the first. The food is excellent - on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. On the second night we ate at the George in town adn this is also to be recommended. Overall, big thumbs up to the Loch Fyne.
Won't rush back!
We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of our great Scottish adventure, unfortunately the welcome wasn't very good, the hotel was extremely hot with radiators turned up to full. Our bedroom was one of the smallest rooms we have ever stayed in. We did however have a bit of a view albeit over a flat roof. The next morning however things did improve, and the staff at breakfast were friendly and the lady who checked us out was nice. The views over the loch from the hotel car park were lovely and Inveraray was cute. If you want a great meal go to the George Hotel in the town centre, their bedrooms look great as well.
Loch Fyne Hotel
My Wife and I have just returned after a 5 day stay in this splendid hotel. It is set on the banks of Loch Fyne with stunning views. At the present moment the hotel is under going some extensive building work so be prepared for some noise and parking is a problem also as the overflow car park is closed due the building work. The meals we ate there were very nice but a bit over fussy for our liking. A short walk into town and you will find numerous other restaurants to try. The best being the George Hotel with lots of atmosphere and a very excellent head barman. Would we go again? yes definitely. A nice Hotel and a beautiful area.
Food served cold!!
I stayed at this hotel as part of a party of 11 - it was my Grandmother's 80th birthday and some family booked into the hotel for dinner, bed and breakfast. The only complaint I have is that the dinner was served lukewarm and the vegetables were cold - when we made a complaint they served us new vegetables that were only marginally better (they were now lukewarm to match the rest of the meal!) This was disappointing to say the least, as it was a special occassion I wanted everything to be just right (and I don't think that's too much to expect!) We were offered a couple of bottles of wine (between 11 of us) to compensate for our poor dining experience - woopee doo (note the sarcasm!) On a plus point, this is my only complaint - so if you're planning to stay here I would recommend dining out!
A tale of two hotels....
Stayed here for 1 night and wouldn't want to stay here for much longer. It seems that there are two hotels here....the original building with better rooms, and at the back a modern block full of rooms that were obviously built to a budget. On check-in everyone was being told to wait as the receptionist wasn't sure if the rooms were ready, although this was at 3.30pm. If you were in the 'old' section though, you wre OK. I stayed in the 'new' rooms and they are basic with not much room. The bathroom is very poorly designed, with the shower only just big enough to get in, yet alone turn around. The quality of the fittings is poor. The two pieces of plasterboard between between my room and the next weren't enough to stop the rather shrill women's vocal chords from reaching my eardrums. Bring some earplugs... Breakfast is a rather drab affair, with a multitude of staff, none of them local. The hotel was full on the night I stayed - I think that they get a lot of bookings because of the 'Spa' tag, but they really aren't trying hard enough here. It could be a lot better if someone cared a bit more. Wouldn't rush back - it's a shame, because it's in a lovely setting.
Great location, lovely decor shame about everything else!
Having stayed at this hotel twice in the past, I had booked a 3 day stay with a large group of friends (10+ in our party) and family for a post New Year 3 days Dinner bed and breakfast deal. This year however, things took a turn for the worse. The rooms are lovely, all freshly decorated and cosy, a huge improvement on previous years. However, this is where the improvements end. The service, particularly in the dining room at dinner and breakfast was truly appalling. The average wait for breakfast from ordering until reaching our table was a minimum wait of 45 minutes or more each of the 3 mornings we ate there during our stay. When breakfast was served it was one rasher of half cooked bacon, a sausage and some sautéed potatoes that were so lack-lustre and pathetic looking everyone had lost their appetite! The breakfast buffet was equally pathetic looking, an area for improvement! Dinner was equally as bad, it took a minimum of 2 hours from starter to desert to finish dinner each of the 3 nights. The dining room staff were very nice and couldn’t apologise enough, but it wasn’t good enough, many other people staying there shared our frustration at the apparent slowness in the kitchen. The set dinner menu itself has considerably more dishes offered at a supplement, and a hefty one at that, so beware. If you choose the set menu the choices are limited and not as appealing as the dishes available for a supplement fee, this is deliberate to entice you to spend more. In previous years such dishes were available without a supplement and we aren’t talking steak here! On the last morning everyone's bills were wrong (not just our group), something I have experienced in previous years, so check what you sign for at all times because billing to the rooms is very slack. On the last morning, breakfast took 1 hour to reach the table, by which point myself and lots of other guests in the same position had enough. The manageress said they were experiencing problems with staff, whilst we appreciated her honesty; it was 3 days too late, after 3 years of visiting, we all won’t be back! This hotel needs a change of management and a staff overhaul in the kitchens, a prime example of why Scottish hotels get such a bad reputation!
Good value relaxing break
Just returned from a very relaxing break at the Loch Fyne Hotel. Great three star hotel, Good atmosphere, great food, great service, great location and clean. Only downside was the poolside changing rooms. These were clean but there was mold on the rood in both the gents and ladies. Very unsightly. Entertainment was provided on both nights. Of a resonable standard but not to everybodys taste. There is a good local pub in Inverary if it is not to your taste which is just a walk away. On a summers night there would be no need to stay in the hotel as the sceanery is breathtaking and their are plenty of nice after dinner walks to fill your evenings. Also note there is a golf course within walking distance and some interesting tourist attractions nearby.
Great upgrade
We booked in for a weekend, when we settled down in our room we found that the toilet did not flush. Very quickly the duty manager came to see us and soon after we were offered a new room. This was clearly the best in the hotel, it had just been upgraded, a front bedroom with bay window and loch views, four poster bed and lovely bathroom - we were very pleased! The staff were very attentive - although there was not a Scot amongest them! Value was also excellent - we thought the rate was B&B but we were not charged for dinner. I don't know if that was a mistake - I didn't argue! A nice hotel well run.
Views? What Views?
We were given a 2 night stay at this Hotel for our Honeymoon. On arrival the Hotel seemed stunning and the views incredible. Upon arriving at the reception I waited whilst the receptionist held a telephone conversation which seemed somewhat inappropriate and had to wait approx 5-6 mins on her ending the call. We checked in and headed up stairs to our room or should I say headed up to the attic which is where the receptionist's directions seemed to be taking us. Now don't get me wrong the room’s cleanliness was to a very high standard however we were spending our honeymoon in a shoebox (we were in the eve's of the hotel). The bathroom was bigger than the bedroom and my new husband was lucky as he just fitted on the bed and no more (this was to be a none eventful honeymoon!). The stunning view from our room was the hotels roof - superb!! The next surprise was even better the hotel fire alarm went off at 2.45am. We were told after much debate to take our selves to the rear of the hotel and congregate in the car park. There we are a honeymoon couple stumbling around in the dark trying to make our way to an assembly point to be told "We don't know what the issue is we are trying to investigate" good on the bloke who should from the darkness "can you tell us what's going on please" or we could still be there waiting on the hotel management. The final straw was on checking out when the receptionist had no idea of our reservation and when she commented on why I was leaving a night early she stated "oh good that will save me some problems in the morning then" apparently another guest's shower had stopped working so this was her get out clause to use our early vacated room for them the next morning (good luck as our shower head was completely knackered!). As she was still looking for our details to check us out the receptionist commented again this time that we were booked in to arrive in 2 days time and for some reason she had 2 rooms booked for us. I wouldn’t like to think that was our upgrade with a stunning view after all this was supposed to be our "Honeymoon"!
