2 adults, 2 children, 10 days, we had a great time at the Apollonia.
Having previously read postings about this hotel being located close to a power station, that didn't even come into play for us while we were there.
Our pool/sea view room was perfect, with maid service every day of our stay.
Food on our AI was excellent, loads of choice, great quality. All the hotel facilities we used, we couldn't fault at all.
Hotel is only 10/15 min cab ride from Heraklion airport and once there, you're about 15mins walk into the resort of Amoudara itself. Don’t book this resort if you want loud and brash as the resort has a handful of quiet bars and local restaurants only.
For high quality accommodation, food and facilities right on a beach, with the option of Heraklion, Knossos, waterparks relatively close by, by cab, we'd definitely recommend this hotel.

This is our second visit to the hotel. During the early part of 2006 the hotel has had a major refurb, which has greatly improved the standard of the accommodation. There is now 3 themed restaurants along with the main restaurant. These themed restaurants are Asian, Italian and Greek. The food was excellent.
The service at the bars was great. The front bar was quiet and a good place to get quick service and chat to the bar tenders.
There is a power station near to the resort, however it has a very minor impact on the overall holiday experience.
Also there is a bus that stops outside the hotel and it only costs 2.20 Euros (£1.50) to get to the city and back.
Overall a fantastic holiday, and exceptional value for money. We will be recommending this hotel to friends and will be going again next year.

" The hotel was beautiful, the beach... "

The hotel was beautiful, the beach was stunning. The food and drink was plentiful. All in all this holiday was brilliant.
The only draw backs were obvious from the moment we reached the hotel, it stands next to the power station for one. However, although we had a full on view of it from our balcony, it really didn’t affect the holiday, the atmosphere, or the quality of the hotel.
The room was basic, but very clean and any problems were sorted immediately by the staff.
The entertainment was strange to say the least and we found that it was beneficial to have a few cocktails before watching. As the resort had people from all over Europe (and the world) the entertainment was in many languages. However we found that the European sense of humour was nothing like that of the British. As we sat there in amazement and it has to be said sometimes embarrassment for the entertainers the Germans were in fits of laughter, they loved it. It has to be said however that we thoroughly enjoyed the bizarre performances, worth going to, but don’t expect it to be classy.
The resort was mainly German and French. The French seeming much more friendly than the Germans, but it only took a day or so to blank out the staring and general rudeness directed toward the English.
Other than that the place was amazing. General surroundings are lovely, the trips were great, we especially loved the jeep safari which was informative and great fun.
All in all a great girls holiday with many hot lifeguards, Dimitris on the hotel beach (although he does look a little like action man) has the best body we’ve seen in a long time and for more hotties you have to visit to waterpark!
" I have stayed at the Apollonia... "

I have stayed at the Apollonia several times before and that in itself must be some sort of recommendation, however this time I did feel that standards had dropped a little. On previous occasions the little things that you expect from a five star hotel were being carried out. on one occasion even carpet slippers were left for us, this time even the shower gel seemed to be rationed and sadly some of those thoughtful extras were missing.
On the plus side this is still the most relaxing place I have ever stayed at, even though it was in the school holidays.
The ambience of the pool area and gardens is just right for de-stressing, while the gymnasium , indoor swimming pool, etc offer fantastic facilities for those inclined to such things.
In my opinion this is a hotel very much for adults, and while children are catered for, the pool is supposed to be airbed, snorkel and flipper exempt zone. Also the restaurant, with its waiter service seems more geared to the adult / couple, rather than the family market.
I like the location of the Apollonia, being within the tourist area and plenty of bars, restaurants and nightlife being close at hand. The old town is a 60 cent bus journey away and the taxis are also very reasonable. As I mentioned previously I have been to Cyprus several times before but still think there’s loads more for me to explore on an island so rich in history, populated with lovely friendly, helpful people.

We visited the hotel in May. Very clean, staff helpful, but unsure it deserves a 4 star rating. We went all inclusive food and drink all great. But surprised that after midnight you had to pay for drinks. Not many facilities in hotel. Indoor pool is a joke.

The hotel is also very close to the islands oil fired power station, and when the wind changes there is a good chance you will savour the aroma of burnt oil. We also had a lovely view of it from balcony as well.
The local buses stop at the hotel gates they run every 15 minutes till about 23.30.They run all the way to Heraklion (it’s better than driving). Take some flip-flops for the beach, as it’s a bit stony. You will have a good time. We would go again tomorrow.

However, our room whilst adaquate, we found noisy and the bathroom left at lot to be desired with regard to privacy.
Good value for money overall, and the nearby power station is not a problem.
