What can I say, there were 5 of us so we had a 3 bedroom apartment, the master bedroom had an en-suite shower and toilet. There was a main bathroom, the kitchen had all the facilities you could possibly need, just a few minutes walk from prince's street, the location was... more

Great Place / very convenient
We stayed there for 5 nights at the beginning of July. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite which was very nice with all the conveniences. There is a washing machine that doubles has a dryer, compare to the North American machines these take a little while to do a load and are fairly small. There is a dryer (stand) also supplied which I found work great for some items. Unfortunatly all the 1 bedroom are on the ground floor, I was looking forward to possibly having a balcony. After travelling in the rest of Europe for a week it was nice to have a home away from home. There is a small supermarket not very far and we even picked up some frozen dinners one night and just zapped them for dinner. There is bar / restaurant (Cargo) right down the canal where we had a great dinner and the price was fairly reasonable. The bus runs right in front of Cargo, so we tried the bus when we went to visit the Britania, but we walked to most of the places. This would be a great place for a family with kids, it is on a small canal and most mornings there were ducks on the Canal. The taxi driver did not know about the place and even when I gave him the address he didn't know where it was. Luckily I had printed the directions from their website and just gave it to him and then no problem! I would definitly recommend you print them before hand.
Home from home, esp with little ones
We staying for two nights whilst visiting Edinburgh, there were 4 adults and one 14 month old staying in a two bedroom apartment. The apartment was beautifully furnished and decorated, as other reviews have mentioned they even restock the fridge each day with orange juice, bread, milk, yogurt and other essentials, all free of charge. Our little one just loved having a free run of the place, and we found it very relaxing compared to the hotel rooms we'd been staying in previously. The location is ideal, tucked away in a very quiet area, but only a ten minute walk to Princess Street, and the castle. The only negative feedback i can provide is the lack of DVDs available to borrow, I recommend you bring some from home. That just goes to show how great the place is.
A Great Place to Stay!
A great place to stay if you’re in Edinburgh. We enjoyed the extra living space, washer/dryer and fully supplied kitchen. The apartment is well-furnished and maintained. Even continental breakfast supplies are delivered to your apartment each day. If you don’t mind cooking on your holiday, we found the prepared dinners (uncooked but fresh not frozen) from Marks and Spenser on Princes Street (in basement of the M&S with the Men’s department on the first floor) were a good alternative to eating out each night. The dinners can be placed into the oven or microwave. M&S has a full grocery and you can easily add a salad, bread and good bottle of wine to your apartment dinner. In regards to location, EQ is about a ten minute walk to Princes Street. There is a bus stop near Cargo, a nearby restaurant, which provides easy access to public transportation.
A nice alternative
We were traveling with our 2 adult children and a son-in-law and had been staying in small hotels and B&B's along the way, so we welcomed this as a place to stretch out. We booked the 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath. It was a large apartment, but there are some definite differences as to what we imagined from the website. First of all, the main floor bedroom is so small that there is barely room for a twin bed and a nightstand. I would have had claustrophobia had I stayed in there and would have had to have the door open all night. The living room/dining room kitchen area were large, but there wasn't a view of anything except cranes - the siding around the balcony was solid cement so you couldn't see anything through it - the balcony was so narrow there was barely enough room for 2 chairs. Our view from our "Penthouse Unit" was the apartments on the opposite wing. There was definitely no view of the canal. The two bedrooms upstairs were more spacious, although not huge. Beds were comfortable. Master bedroom only had shower in the bathroom. There was a tub in the main bathroom. Only place to plug in hairdryer was an outlet 6 inches from the bottom of the floor in the bedroom. No mirror close by. Hairdryer had very short cord. It made for some interesting gymnastics. The kitchen was restocked each day with fresh yogurt, milk and bread. The location was just so so. It is an area of town where they are trying to do rebuilding, so in a few years it might be better. It is within walking distance of the Castle, but not an expecially fun one when it is cold and raining. Which if you go to see the Castle, don't waste the half hour time it takes to snake through the line to see the crown jewels - they aren't worth it. The visit to the Royal Britianna is definitely worth it. We found a couple of good restaurants close by the apartments. One was Cargo - which is very close. Another is L'Amore D"Italia, which is just a short walk. Also, don't expect much help from the Front Desk staff. They were breaking in a new girl when we were there and I felt I knew more about Edinburgh than she did when I left.
Couldn't fault this little gem!
My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights at the beginning of June, and couldn't have asked for a better base while visiitng Edinburgh. On arrival at the building, we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who showed us personally to our apartment and explained where everything was and how to use the appliances. I guess the hotel was fairly quiet the few days we stayed there, as we lucky enough to be allocated a two bedroom apartment which certainly added to the sense of luxury! Both bathrooms (main and en-suite and complete with Molton Brown toiletries) were immaculate, as were the other rooms (two reasonable sized bedrooms and a large living/dining and kitchen area). It made a pleasant change to have such space available to us instead of looking at the usual four walls of a hotel room, and we enjoyed a night on the comfy leather sofa in front of the large TV (complete with DVD + tuner). I would thoroughly recommend these new serviced apartments if you're looking for somewhere a bit different to stay, especially since it was pretty close to the city centre (about 10 min walk to Princes St). Only downside I can think of is that there wasn't much choice for breakfast - 2 small yoghurts and 2 mini boxes of cereal - so if you don't like what you're given, you'd be better off going to the supermarket anyway. The bar opposite on the other side of the canal was pretty quiet when we went and didn't bother us at all, but it may have been slightly noisier at the weekend. Other than those small things, a great stay...the fantastic weather helped too!
Nice to have the space...
After spending a few nights in London with only 2 rooms, it was very nice to get to EQ-2 and have the space to stretch out. The apartment is well laid out with a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. Living area had a nice entertainment system incuding a receiver, DVD, CD and flat screen TV. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils with a fridge that the staff filled with butter, jellies, milk, juice, bread and yogurt each day. The bedroom came with it's own flat screen TV and we had the queen size bed which was 2 doubles pushed togehter. The bath was interesting with a partition instead of a door or curtains for the shower. This made quite a mess in the mornings. The entire aprtment was very clean with housekeepers cleaning it up each day. As mentioned before there was quite a bit of construction around the hotel and throghout all of Edinburgh. That said we did not have any issue with noise nor did it bug us at all. The location is a bit of a walk to the Royal Mile and the Grass Market area. Within a few blocks of the hotel were a few pubs, restraunts and small grocery stores. Only downside to this hotel would be the location, but with all the beer drinking we did the exercise came in handy. Also, due to the time of year the days are quite long. We never expirienced night time while in Edinburgh. We found Edinburgh to be a bit dirty in areas but never felt unsafe and we walked everywhere. As well, with all public places being non-smoking we enjoyed the pubs very much. Jeff
Superb apartment
Have to agree they are a little difficult to find, but when you have these are very luxurious. This part of Edinburgh is being re-generated so there is bound to be a bit of building work nearby but this didn't trouble us at all and we didn't hear a thing. Once you have your bearings it is a relatively short stroll to Princes street or the Royal Mile. 5 Star!
Don't do it! unless your into building sights.
We arrived late afternoon after driving round and round in every shabby back street you could imagine (and that's with sat nav!). The building is very smart and so are the appartments but thats about all that is. Out of one window we had a crane and out of the other we had rubble. More like the Gaza strip! and what canals? all I could see was a bit of water at the front of the building. Needless to say we did'nt even check in and headed for home.. complete disaster!
I wish I lived here permanently!
It wasn't the easiest place to find but once we got there, we were not disappointed. We booked a 2-bed flat for 1 night in May, direct on the Fountain Court Apartments website, and paid a total of £105. We were given a code for the underground car park (which even had a vending machine just in case you got the munchies) and got the lift to our apartment which was on the 3rd floor. The flat was lovely. We didn't have a view over the canal but we could see Edinburgh Castle which looks fantastic all lit up in the evening. The apartment had everything you could want, Plasma TV with Sky, DVD player, Iron, Ironing Board, Washer/Dryer, Clothes Airer, Dishwasher, etc.. The Fridge was stocked with milk, a loaf of bread, 2 small orange juice cartons, 2 strawberry yogurts, mini butter packs, mini jam packs, Weetabix & All Bran (the small single portion boxes), and they even offered to get us extra shopping in before we arrived, for a small charge. It was great, we used the cooker, microwave and dishwasher and I even managed to do some washing (on a 30min cycle) and used the dryer to get it all dry before we left the following morning. The bedrooms were fantastic, with flat screen TVs on the wall and best ever black out curtains. The bathrooms we just as lovely, really modern with double headed showers. We had more than enough room and my 10 month old son loved having loads of space to crawl around, it really was the nicest part of our trip as it was just like being at home.
