Adequate, but not outstanding
Stayed here for two nights in May 2007. This is not a typical Marriott hotel; it's more like one of their lesser brands. The room was clean and a bit large, though a bit dated. Room service food was adequate but nothing to write home about. Service was fine and friendly. There is no sundry/gift shop, which I found quite inconvenient since I caught a cold in Scotland and needed some over-the-counter medicine. Hotel is convenient to the airport but little else. It is either a bus or taxi ride into the city, which is a charming place.<br... more
Great Service
I found the hotel staff exceptionally professional and helpful during my stay. From reception to bar and restaurant staff, I could not fault their professionalism and willingness to please. The rooms are clean and neat. I had a huge king bed which took up much of the room. Bathroom was on the small side with limited bench space and the revolting shower curtain. The Marriott has the charm of a small UK hotel but with all the benefits provided in a large hotel chain.
Great place, but not-so-convenient location
Having traveled to Edinrbugh via train, we found the location of the hotel quite inconvenient. It is close to the airport, but far from everything else. It took over 20 minutes by bus to get to the areas where all the attractions and shops were. The bus stop is right outside of the hotel though. That being said, all other aspects of our stay were great. Our room was very spacious (compared to other European hotel rooms) and clean. We had a nice comfy king-sized bed with lots of pillows and cushy headboard. The bathroom was also of... more
Mediocrity first thing in the morning.
Great location for the Airport - has shuttle but only found out after a £9 / $18 cab ride. One of the things I always anticipate in UK hotels is the breakfast. There is nothing better to sets you up for a day's business or sight seeing than a good Breakfast. I stayed one night in this hotel and had an easy check in, a good dinner with attentive service and as I went off to bed I was looking forward to a great Breakfast. Waking up was when the trouble started. I was in an "Executive" room on the third floor. The water... more
Very Nice
We stayed in a suite in this hotel (room 205) and found it very good for the money. The suite consisted of a living room about 12' x 35' with a sofa, dining table and 2 chairs, coffee table, and TV. The bedroom was about 14" x 25' with a King bed, TV and adequate storage for clothes. The bathroom was huge, with two sinks, whirlpool tub, and a separate shower plus a lot of extra room. The rooms were dark, however, although quiet. Service was good. Our suite got us access to the Executive Lounge, where a continental breakfast,... more
A decent hotel - maybe not for tourists
I recently spent 2 nights at the Marriott in Edinburgh and found the hotel be very pleasant and of a good standard. The rooms were modern, clean and with a good size bed. The hotels staff where very friendly and polite. The hotel is not too far from the airport and there is a small shopping centre about 5mins walk from the hotel. On the down side, it’s a bit far from the city centre, a 10-15min cab ride; there is a bus stop near the hotel that would take you there as well. If you are looking for nice place to eat around the hotel,... more
Reasonable Hotel, but out of town
The Marriott is another of those hotels that gets bought and sold by the various chains, and rebranded. The public areas are clean and reasonably airy; the bar serves adequate, if uninspired pub food. I didn't try the restaurant. Guest rooms are compact, but dominated by vast, very comfortable beds - this is clearly an area Marriott are concentrating on. Yes the hotel is out of the way, but Edinburgh buses are fast and frequent - GBP2.50 buys you an all day ticket for unlimited travel and the X48 bus takes you into the... more
decent hotel in a charmless location.
As an airport hotel this ticks all boxes. It is near the airport, it is kind of reliable in a marriott sort of way, its big, beds are comfy, gym is decent, food is overpriced but just about edible. As a tourist base for exploring edinburgh, forget it. Too far out, pretty charmless location. We stayed in an executive room. I don't think it was any bigger than a regular room, it just came with robes and slippers, whooo! But it also had the executive lounge. The executive lounge service was really patchy. drinks were slow to be... more
Dire excuse for a Marriott
To set the scene, I stay in Marriotts wherever I go worldwide, if I can, as I'm confident that I'll get a nice solid room with a good bed, good staff & good food, if not spectactular, in the normal non-resort hotels and top-end treatment in the resort or country club Marriotts. We stayed in this hotel just after it opened and it was shockingly poor, the fire alarm went off twice during the night, the food was abysmal and the staff didn't know what to do. Being forgiving, we decided this year to go back there when coming up to visit... more
Lovely Hotel but a bit far out
Stayed here for two nights Thursday Friday. Very close to Airport and main routes into and around the City. Hotel is modern and quite ugly outside but inside is usual high standard Marriott. Good free car park - shell petrol station opposite hotel We had Dinner & Bed & Breakfast - food cannot be faulted service in resteraunt from Maitre D to waiters is excellent. A very international workforce - we had a lovley Dutch waitress one night and a lovley guy from Calcutta the next all very intelligent studying degrees etc in liesure &... more
