Nice hotel, but needs a bit of money spending on it!
We stayed at this hotel in April. All official photos for this hotel only focus on the main building which houses reception and the fine dining restaurant. The bedrooms are housed in lookalike prison blocks with small windows. However the rooms themselves are nice and clean. We stayed on a Friday night - the hotel was fully booked however they were mainly booked onto a conference weekend. Therefore the restaurants were empty therefore lacking atmosphere. Golf looked really good and seemed to be busy with the conference... more
Lovely break
On arriving at the hotel at 2.30 pm we were told our rooms were not ready so we went into the lounge for a drink and they said they would let us know when the rooms were available. We had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights stay with our son and daughter 15 and 21. After an hour we went to find out if our rooms were ready and they were (don't know how long they had been ready but they hadn't informed us). The leisure facilities were excellent and we ate in the Long Weekend, the food was good. The first morning at breakfast my husband took ill and... more
A 40th to remember!!
My husband, 7 year old son and I have just recently returned from a long weekend at the Dalmahoy Hotel in Edinburgh. We were celebrating my husband's 40th birthday - and we certainly did it in style. The hotel receptionists and conceige were extrememly helpful and gave us a wealth of information about where to go in Edinburgh - even printing off info from the internet for us!! The room was lovely - extremely clean with a great mini bar. Breakfasts were fit for a king with everything on the menu you could imagine - except for porrige!? We ate... more
Nice but nothing spectacular
I stayed for two nights with my boyfriend and found the hotel fine. However, it's your typical hotel chain and i found nothing extra special about it. Our room was in the newer part of the hotel and we could have been anywhere in the world. I was expecting a special old world style atmosphere which was lacking. The staff were second to none, always smiling and obliging without fail. The food was very nice and room service was excellent also. Unfortunately it did not suit us to take our golf clubs so we missed out on the opportunity of... more
Superb staff
Just returned from our daughter's wedding held at the Dalamhoy. Everything was absolutely perfect- every single member of staff from cleaners to managers were so helpful and genuinely cared about the well being of guests. The food was really well prepared, presented and served (unusual for weddings!!) The catering manager and the special events co-ordinator were absolutely superb and couldn't do enough. The free transfer bus to and from the airport worked well and was very convenient. Drinks are a bit expensive but I'd reccomend this hotel... more
Needs a Bit More Polish and Effort...
My opinion of the Marriott Dalmahoy might be a tad colored by coming here from another resort whose service had been superb, but we found the Marriott Dalmahoy a bit lacking in some key areas. Most rooms are in the newer addition and are very much like Marriot rooms through-out the world. They are very servicable albeit it small for two, but no one writes home about them. We stayed one night there and then moved to a "period" room in the old main building. The "period" room looked like a "period" room, but it was a tad larger. It... more
Lovely Marriott
We stayed here on an escape break in October 2005 and thought it was lovely. It was our second visit and it didn't disappoint. The hotel was spotless and the service was excellent. The food in the restaurant was delicious. We aren't golfers but really appreciate the setting of this hotel. It's on a bus route to Princes St.(£1.90 each way)It combines the best of both worlds-near enough to the city to see the sights but peaceful to come back to at night. We will definitely stay here again.
Lovely hotel in a fantastic setting
Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in September, upgraded to a turret room which was huge! Typical Marriott decoration, but at least you know what your getting, room had large bath and shower, large king size bed and enough space for the wife's entourage and one's golf clubs. The hotel is in a lovely location just outside Edinburgh but only a short 15 minute drive to the centre. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews regarding location, especially when hotels states it's a Golf and COUNTRY CLUB! Think the clues in the... more
Perfect Weekend
Just returned from a lovely week-end break at The Dalmahoy. Everything was perfect just what we had hoped for. The Hotel is set in beautiful grounds and has a wonderful Golf Course. Our Room was spacious, spotless and the bed very comfortable, only one small problem....no hairdryer in room. The Bathroom was a good size and also spotless - no complaints at all. All the Staff were very friendly and helpful especially in the Dining Room where we had a wonderful Breakfast, you name it they had it!! The Leisure Facilities were also very... more
slow/indifferent service in the leisure center restaurant
I stayed at the Dalmahoy recently and the service in the leisure center restaurant was extremely poor, it was slow and often items on the menu were finished and unavailable. The hotel restaurant staff were the complete opposite, they couldn't do enough for us, they were extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend that you eat in the main hotel not the "cafe".
