Beautifully situated on the shores of Loch Long at the foot of the ‘Arrochar Alps’ the Swallow Arrochar Hotel has magnificent views across the Loch to the mountains beyond. A comfortable and friendly hotel, the Arrochar prides itself on the warmth of welcome and quality of service guests receive. Arrochar is only 1½ miles from Loch Lomond and makes a superb base for touring Glasgow, Oban, Callander, the Trossachs and Stirling.

This was with out a doubt the worst stay we had in our entire trip. Arrochar Hotel brings down the average for Scottish hotels. Our room was tiny and ill lit. The breakfast staff was indifferent and the milk appeared to be watered. This was much more like Fawlty Towers than a quality hotel.

Arrochar itself is beautiful and I recommend it to anyone, just not this hotel.

This was booked whilst Swallow still owned it, and at that time I would concur with the notion of a young and disinterested staff.

However, it needs pointing out that by the time we arrived another company (Oxford) had taken over.

Telephone contacts pre-arrival showed a marked improvement in professionalism after the change, with a genuine desire to ensure that that any queries and concerns were answered.

This continued on arrival, and it was fantastic value for money. Thoroughly recommended.

We did a five day tour of Scotland and this hotel was by far the worst value for money. It was more expensive than the other hotels that we stayed at but not as good as the others.

We were greeted by very young reception staff who did not seem pleased to see us, we questioned why there was no soap in the room to be told they had run out a couple of days ago and if we wanted, we could drive down the road to the shop and buy some ourselves.

Our room was very dark and partly underground and very dated. The Bed was extremely uncomfortable and I itched all night. The room also heated up to uncomfortable levels in the night (and it was winter!) and there was only one tiny window which didn’t open and we checked we had the heater turned off.

Breakfast was good, and the breakfast staff were pleasant and helpful.

Still no smile on checkout though, and no customer feedback forms lying around (despite other Swallow hotels offering them).

All in all, not a pleasant experience.

This was booked the day before we arrived, through the internet. We stayed for three nights on a Half Board basis and the meals were superb. Although the room was quite small it was more than adequate and tidy.

The staff were all friendly and the views from the Hotel were lovely. It was really convenient for Glasgow, Helensburgh or Loch Lomond etc. The weather in January isn't the best as we had some rain. But in summer it must be wonderful.
