Airth Castle Hotel & Spa Resort

Just spent 3 nights at Airth castle Hotel - 2 adults 3 kids. Read the reviews after we booked and feared the worst. However, we had a great time. The staff were all friendly, polite and helpful. Spoke to locals who were using the leisure facilities, who said it had gone downhill over last few years but had been taken over recently and has had a lot of money spent on it recently, with the new owners aiming to get 5 stars. To sum it up, we were disappointed in the castle hotel - the view, the location, the room. I almost switched hotels before the trip because I read the negative reviews, but because my kids wanted to "stay in a castle", I kept the reservations, and my fingers crossed. We were supposed to stay at Airth for two nights, but shortened the stay to one night. I have to say, part of the disappointment may have been my fault, as I didn't realize how far the hotel is from anything; I thought we might be able to walk to some shops or restaurants.... more

I felt i had been cheated by the hotel after the service i had recived. I was booked into airth castle in cnjunction with a very large company function of travel agents, so had expected to atleast be given a decent impression of the hotell. I had previously visited the airth castle web site to get a good idea of what i was in for. The way the rooms are described on the net would make anyone excited to staying there. Just back from one night B&B at Airth Castle, got a good deal off internet and paid half of which we did a few months back. No problems with rooms, clean and adequate. Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. Only criticism is this time there appeared to be a heating problem in the Stable area restaurant and we were told dinner was in the castle. Asked to see a menu and still waiting for it to be brought over. Went over to the castle to find no price on menu and not much choice so walked back in freezing weather to car to go into Falkirk.... more

Stayed a night at this hotel on an organised event. We found the accommodation very good and the hotel was very nice, if only we could have said the same about the bar staff!!! When we arrived at the hotel we went for a drink in the bar where bar staff completely ignored our existance. I have written twice to the Hotel with my point of view and to complain about the room my husaband and I were allocated on our first night at the Hotel which can only be described as servants quarters, it was up some back stairs and next to an office. Our second night was in a very nice room and was of the standard I would expect. Just thought I'd put in my tuppenceworth about this hotel to give a bit of balance to the reviews it's been getting lately. To be honest, after reading all the negative comments, I wasn't expecting much from Airth Castle - but it was actually really good! My wife and I stayed here for two nights just last week (October 05), and didn't really have any complaints. Just had my wedding there 2 weeks ago, now where do we start 1. Booked it over 2 years ago and was messed about from day 1, had about 12 different contract they kept posting to us. Never had the correct name on the contract or even correct details until 14 days before the wedding. 2. Oh dear. We were really looking forward to our weekend in a Scottish castle for a friend's wedding, but this hotel did not live up to our expectations. It is not a cheap hotel, but it is truly just not worth the money.
