Great Location and breakfast
We have never travelled by train from our home in Nottingham to Aberdeen (one of the longest journeys possible in the United Kingdom by train) After deciding to settle on Aberdeen, we booked a room at the Express by Holiday Inn Aberdeen using 10,000 priority club points. Rates at this hotel for our chosen night would have been £94 which for a budget hotel isn't worth it however you can get a room from as little as £39 if you book in advance and for that price it is a good deal. (Remember breakfast is included) The location of this hotel is great, a short walk from Union Street (the main street through the City Centre) and a 15 minute walk from the railway station (the bus station is next to the railway station) Check-in was quick and efficient, they had our Priority Club details on file already and after a quick signature we were handed our keycard. Our room on the first floor was room number 113. The bedroom consists of a double bed, sofa (which can be collapsed into a fold away bed), table with seat, mirror, television (BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Four, Five, Sky One, Nick TV, Sky News and pay movies) There is ample storage for clothes. There is a kettle with a selection of tea bags, UHT Milk, coffee and sugar. The bathroom has a combined bathroom door and toilet door, there is a sink with mirror and rail complete with a good amount of towels, the shower is next to the sink (the shower is very powerful and the temperature settings can be controlled by a knob to the right of the shower) Breakfast is served buffet style and consists of help yourself tea and coffee. The buffet also has a toaster where you can make your own toast. Nearby there are a selection of fruit juices, fresh fruit selection, cereals, yoghurts and mini pastries. All the food is fresh and compared to other Express by Holiday Inn's is very good. Staff are friendly and tables are kept clean and tidy. Checkout is yet again attentive and quick. Staff are friendly and wished us farewell. Overall a very good product, attentive staff, ample breakfast, clean rooms and public areas and of course great location. Why stay at any other hotel when you are in Aberdeen? My top places to see and visit whilst in Aberdeen: 1. St Machar's Cathedral - Old Aberdeen 2. Provost Skene's House - off Broad Street 3. Marischal Museum - Broad Street 4. Tolbooth - Castle Street 5. Aberdeen Maritime Museum - Shiprow 6. Harbour 7. Beach / coastal front *watch out forany seals relaxing on the beach*
Centrally located, excellent value.
We stayed for one night (Saturday). It is literally just off the main street (Union street). Parking may be a problem as there are only about 10 spaces for customers although apparently there was free off street parking nearby. We arrived at 5pm (no customer parking) parked right across the road and paid the £1.80 for the hour until 6pm and were away before charges started again on the Sunday at 1pm. So were happy with that. We were in a room at the back of the hotel which was quiet, clean and well furnished. Continental breakfast was adequate. While eating breakfast we heard some older couples complaining about the street noise overnight, they must have been at the front of the hotel, so ask to stay at the back. Another point....we paid £55 using the online booking service, while sitting near reception having a drink prior to going out there was a guy walked in and got a room....he was charged £90!
Comfortable Stay
Staff were very friendly and knew all the best places to eat. My room was at the back of the hotel so very quiet and reasonable well appointed. Price was excellent value for money although breakfast would have been better with bacon and eggs. Would recommend this hotel.
Cleanest Hotell
Enjoyed my stay here very much. It was one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed in. Its very central and ideal for visiting city centre resturants and shops. Was very impressed that the shower stayed at a constant temp which has never been my experience at any other hotel. The staff were all very efficient and friendly.
Nicely done :-)
I'm a Holiday Inn Priority Club Platinum member and I've stayed in a lot of Holiday Inns - this is one of the nicest Express's I've stayed in. It's clean, the staff are friendly and it's convenient to the rest of Aberdeen. My only criticisms that do not detract from my rating is to question A: Why is this hotel, like every single hotel I've stayed in so hot and B: If you're on the wrong side the road might be a bit intrusive for some if the windows are open - But what hotel in a city centre do not have these downsides? Breakfast is also well laid out and good value.
Perfect location
Hotel was recommended on this site and I booked taking into account it can be noisy on the front street as stated by previous reviewers. Requested a room that wasn't at the front and we stayed for two nights. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was basic but very clean. The hotel is located just off the main street and there is a taxi rank just down from the hotel. If you are looking for somewhere clean to come back to at the end of a long day this place is perfect. I would not hesitate to come back and would recommend it.
Great value location
Arrived at hotel to be greeted by a friendly reception team. First impressions were good. The location is certainly convenient, just off Union Street with a number of stores nearby and a selection of good restaurants within walking distance. A bakery is located just across the road. Early check in was available however we had requested a room at the back of the hotel, which was, not immediately available. The receptionist took our bags and we headed of to look around the city centre. An hour later we were swiftly checked in and given details of breakfast times etc. As requested we were allocated a room at the back of the hotel. The room was perfect for our stay, for one night the room size was adequate. Both the room and bathroom were clean with everything in working order. The room comprised a double bed and a pull out sofa bed sleeping up to four. Additional blankets and pillows were available from reception. Amenities in the room included TV (with Pay movies), Tea \ Coffee facilities, Hairdryer, excellent power shower, Lux shower gel \ shampoo dispenser, Internet connection (GBP5.00 for one hour GBP15.00 for 24 hours ), adjustable heater (no a\c) and plenty of towels. At the end of each corridor a ironing room was available. While the bathroom is small, it is very well laid out. The reception area like the rest of the hotel was fresh, comfortably furnished and functional. A small bar was attached to the reception desk serving a range of beers and spirits. A small business area was available in the lobby where you could arrange for photocopying, faxing and access the Internet. A selection of local restaurant menus and takeaway \ delivery menus were also available. A continental breakfast is included in the rate for all guests. Breakfast is served beside reception and is certainly an adequate start to the day. Breakfast is typically available from 06:30-10:30 (check with reception). Although the room was busy, the selection was good and the friendly staff kept the breakfast counter well stocked. You could help yourself to a selection of Cereals, yogurts, croissants, bread rolls, small Danish pastries, orange \ grapefruit juice (juice was just ok), toast, preserves, grapefruit segments, apples, bananas and tea \ coffees. Nearby there are some great local restaurants such as Jimmy Chungs (all you can eat Chinese buffet), The Filling Station (American steakhouse), Frankenstein's and a nice Pizza Express. The hotel is seconds from Union Street, which has a great selection of shops. It is important to note that at weekends Union Street can be quite lively, it's worthwhile asking for a room at the back of the hotel which is a lot quieter. Check in time is 14:00, check out is 11:00. Overall the hotel is ideal for a visit to Aberdeen, it is a superior alternative to local competitors such as Travelodge etc. and while it is similar to every other Holiday Inn Express in the UK, the friendly staff, clean, comfortable rooms and great location make it an ideal spot for a night in Aberdeen.
Great Location
The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is situated in a quiet road just off the high street, within walking distance to all the shops and a good selection of restaurants. The rooms are identical to the other ones in the chain. Spacious modern, functional and rather impersonal. The breakfast selection is the same as other hotels of the same chain but the actual food was very fresh and tasted great. A good choice for the business traveler whose company is on a budget (like mine).
Great hotel for the money
For the money, you won't get better in Aberdeen. Fantastic location and good sized, well-kept rooms. Buffet breakfast is good - not the best, but better than most in this class of hotel. Unfortunately, there's no restaurant/room service/minibar facilities - so if you don't want to dehydrate and starve while you're there, I suggest taking some drinks into the hotel before all the shops shut for the night. There are a few restaurants nearby if you can brave the Aberdeen weather long enough to leave the hotel!
