Jun 2007, Mrs M Ritchie

My husband and I stayed at this lodge to break up our drive from Aberdeen to Peterborough plus to have a look around Berwick. The hotel was basic but clean we paid £59.00 for the room only overnight stay bit pricey. Was offered to buy a breakfast pack can’t quite... more

Great location
We stayed here for 3 nights at £29 a night. We were lucky in that we had a rear facing room but I did hear noise from Mcdonalds while outside. Revving engines and loud music. Morrisons is next door as is a bus stop to go into Berwick. This was handy as when you go to a strange town you have no idea on the parking situation. It cost £1.10 in and the same return. Berwick is a lovely interesting town with plenty to see and do.From the travelodge we visited Holy Island and it is a beautiful place. We ate in a pub called The Meadows which was... more
Fine, just typical travel lodge!
Fine, just a typical Travel Lodge in a typical Travel Lodge location. The staff were a little straight faced with nothing to really smile about. House keeping was done by a young lady and a young Cocker Spaniel puppy-nice if you a dog lover, not good if you cantt stand the the sight nor smell of dogs. McDonalds next door is easy to grab a cheap bite to eat for breakfast as the ithe Morrison supermarket 5 mins walk away which has a cafe. To sum up-just a nother Travel Lodge, great for a night but you wouldnt make a holiday of it.
Not for the family
We booked a family room some weeks ahead of our stay but when we arrived, the children's beds were not made up. In fact there was no bedding or towels or mugs, drinks etc for the children. It was simply a room for two people. The receptionist offered to get us bedding packs when we returned from going out for food, but bridled at the suggestion that she should make up the beds. The design of the room, ie the overlong desk/table supporting the TV etc, makes it impossible to tuck the second bed away and you'll be lucky to get through... more
A very satisfactory stay
I stayed at this Travelodge on Thursday 8th November. Having read the previous reviews I requested and was given a quiet room: upstairs rear-facing at the far end of the corridor by the fire-exit. The hallways and the room itself were in good decorative order. The curtains appeared to be new and everything/everywhere was very clean. I was not disturbed by noise from cars or people using the fast-food restaurant in front of the Travelodge. The lady who checked me in was friendly and helpful, ditto the girl who was on... more
Smarter than the average Travelodge but noisy
Generally we find Travelodges OK as a last resort, but this one was actually quite good with the exception of the noise coming from the fast food place next to it.
Good Travelodge spoilt by the proximity of McDonalds
I endorse LancashireBramble's comments. The Travelodge itself is fine, and strategcially well placed, It's fairly new, in good condition with good staff. There is no lift. However the McDonalds right in front with a drive-through attracts youngsters on noisy motorbikes and cars with loud stereos late into the night. This is a nuisance. Morrison's is very handy for anything you might need, including fuel. We ate in Magna's, an award winning Indian Restaurant in the middle of old Berwick. The meal was well below par, and... more
hotel ok but poor location
The travel lodge its self was fine - standard chain ensuite room, clean, warm etc. But in my opinion it was in a bad location. It was on a new looking retail type park on the edge on the outskirts of Bewick with only a Macdonalds and a Morrisons supermarket. It was next to a housing estate. There was no where decent to eat or go for a drink at night. The travel lodge did not have it's own bar/restaurant. The area did not feel safe at all - we walked to a pub nearby for evening meal called the Meadows - they had signs above the... more
Blustery Berwick
Stayed here Sat. March 11th, en route to the Highlands. Its an ideal location, quite near the town, with Morrison's handy for a decent meal and shopping. However its a windy old place is Berwick,so wrap up well if you're going soon.
To far from the town centre
Ita a tavel lodge same as every other one clean and you know what you are getting. Unless you have a car forget it. We got a taxi into town and another one back so that was an extra unexpected £8 We went to a place called Doollaly on Bridge Street which is in the old part of town for something to eat, very nice atmosphere and lovely food. We then went to Barrels ale house for a couple of Beers which was brilliant. Next time we are in Berwick we are going to stay in 56 Bridge Street the budget B&B to save the taxi hassle to... more
Basic but nice
Stayed at Travelodge end April/Beginning of May 06. Hotel is just as you would expect for a travelodge. Very basic. However, it was very clean and well secure. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. It is situated literally a stone's throw from a McDonalds drive thru (didnt cause us any problems, but some might not like it!) and also from a large Morrisons store, which we found handy to go and grab some snacks as and when needed. Also a petrol station situated at the Morrisons store. It is situated... more
