Crazy golf
from Pampers
This is a well placed hotel for exploring either coast as it's in the middle of North Cornwall. Nicely laid out over several buildings…some barn conversions. The pool is in it's own block with good facilities and a nice temp…a spa would have been ideal after a days golfing/sightseeing The full English buffet breakfast was yum and the staff very helpful in the sports bar. Recommend a buggy for Golf course as it's very hilly and some tees are far from last pin. If you like a challenging course try this, but bring plenty balls as the rough was awash of buttercups and hard to find. Only downside was our big twin room in the barn conversion had thin walls and the early risers next door woke us up each day at 7am!! We paid £80/room B&B on an Easter wkend.
Dangerous course with buggies
from Tigerslap
This course is built on the side of a hill and in a valley bottom. It has some interesting holes but on the whole is a mickey-mouse golf course, not a test of golf, a test of luck. In the wet with buggies it is downright dangerous and, when like this, should only, only be walked (please note this as you could end up in hospital). Food very good, shop OK, responsibility for golfers poor, verging on untruths.....
great hotel in lovely setting
from dananddon
we stayed here in december for a wekend break whilst visiting friends, the rooms were clean and upto date, towels were changed daily and all the bathroom and tea making items were replenished each day. the golf was exellent and the pool brilliant to relax in after a long days drive. would recommend this hotel to anyone and will be staying again.
Hotel? No - just a golf club with rooms on site!
from Hezangel
Sounds lovely doesn't it - that's what we thought when we booked this hotel for a 3 night DBB stay to use as a base whilst we explored many of the wonderful places that Cornwall has to offer. Being two active people in our 60s, we wanted an hotel with comfort, excellent food and service where, after a strenuous days sight seeing, we could return to for a pre dinner drink in the lounge followed by a fine meal in the restaurant. We arrived around 3pm and the only person working took almost 35 minutes to eventually hand us a key, give us a map of the grounds so we could find our way and leave us to install ourselves in an upstairs room off a courtyard without any offer of help with luggage. She then completely ignored another person waiting to check in to talk with a golfer. So much for service. Our room was a newish conversion of a barn, spacious, with a double and bunk beds.and 2 chairs. It was light and clean, unlike the stairs leading to this which were filthy, as were the landing and windows. Tea & coffee facilities had not been toped-up from the previous guests but were provided when we asked for them at dinner. Aah dinner !! Firstly the 'lounge' was just the golfer's bar, full of smoke with nowhere to enjoy a drink in comfort. Even the 'card room' was full of dirty cups etc from a previous event. The 'dining room' boasted signs stating 'no mobiles' and ' no trainers to be worn' . These were completely ignored with frequently made and received calls at breakfast and dinner and any clothes and footwear accepted. The staff, who had no obvious training re service, had no idea of what was on the evening menu, or what was 'off'. A small menu which purported to be prepared and cooked by the 'chef' had items which were never 'on' during our stay. To say the evening staff were not the slightest bit interested in their guests' comforts, food or service is not an exageration - and this includes the man in the kitchen. The food was very ordinary and unattractively presented. On the second evening a request for duck to be well cooked resulted in the meat running with blood when cut. It went back to the kitchen and returned 5 minutes later swimming in insipid brown gravy (cherry and port wine jus !! ) with the comment "chef says he cooked it for the time stated on the packet" . Needless to say we dined elsewhere the following evening and received a wonderful, tasty meal with lovely smiling service. Our overall impression was that this is a golf club who have converted barns to rooms to make extra money, not to provide a service to their guests. Ours had a good view but many only looked onto other barns. They are understaffed, without any visible management. The staff that are there are untrained for their jobs - and the cook - well ! Breakfast with tinned tomatoes and tinned mushrooms are not my idea of 'excellent food' . Oh I almost forgot the swimming pool, it was closed to guests for most of the day whilst children's swimming lessons were in progress. We could use it at about 6pm. Do go if you want to play golf on an indifferent course, with the railway line along the bottom edge of it - yes I am a golfer . Don't go if you want service (with or without a smile), good food, a comfortable room in an hotel or a smoke free place to enjoy a few drinks. Well travelled couple from Hertfordshire.
Excellent value
from mikenibbles
A very friendly hotel. Golf course is very challenging with some interesting and varied holes. The evening meals offer a good choice with small, but ample quantities. I have visited this hotel on two occasions and will certainly be returning again.
very disappointed
from johnwilliam
The room was very good despite being remote from the main hotel (contrary to the assurance we received when we booked). However the evening meal on our first night was very poor, so poor that we ate elsewhere on the following evenings. The evenings were also dominated by huge parties at the hotel, a birthday on the Friday evening and a wedding, I think, on the Saturday. Great if you are celebrating but not so good for guests seeking a restful break.
An Excellent Place to Stay
from A TripAdvisor Member
Room (25)was separate from main building and excellent. Bath and shower, king sized bed, seating area. Swimmming pool was fine. Staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Food was also very good. We will stay there again without hesitation
Excellent short break

Just returned from a short break. A great location, staff extremely friendly. Upgraded room worth the extra. Swimming pool a real bonus as well as golfing and other facilities. Would certainly stay again.
Worth a visit

We have just had a really lovely break at the Lostwithiel G & C Club - relaxing (when not playing golf); golf course was a bit of a challenge; use a motorised trolley or buggy and expect yr handicap to go up! We upgraded to a superior room for £12 prpn and it was so-o-o comfortable. Yes, the shower-room could do with a little attention, but made up for by courteous and friendly attention from staff; lovely evening meal choice (far too much to eat) and plenty of breakfast choice. Could do with more television channels, but if you've taken advantage of the golf, yr probably too tired to watch it. Will visit again, but weekdays would be better than w/ends, due to busy course.
Don't bother!!
from Ragger
We chose this hotel after seeing it advertised in a golf magazine. As my husband and his uncle wanted to try a different golf course we decided to make a weekend of it in Cornwall. To say we were disappointed by the hotel is an understatement. Bearing in mind we paid £100 per couple for one night B & B. Where do I start, the reception decor was like something out of the early eighties, staff who were so young and couldn't be bothered with the guests. All areas of the hotel needs a serious update (not just a lick of paint either!). The bedrooms were small and dated and one had a humidifier in to get rid of the damp!! No teabags or coffee in one of the rooms and the hairdryer in the other wasn't there. The worse aspect was the fact there were rooms above us where you could actually hear the other guests conversations very clearly!! Don't go at weekends as the wedding party that were there when we were didn't stop partying until after one o'clock. Breakfast was sort of ok, the young staff didn't know what a vegetarian fry up was and had to ask the chef if he could do one. Everything had been cooked and kept warm. Didn't eat there in the evening but were glad because we found a great restaurant called The Globe in Lostwithiel - great food, reasonable price but book on a Saturday. The only plus was the golf course but as we had this half price, my husband said he wouldn't have paid the full price for it. However, Cornwall and the Eden project was very enjoyable and the weather was perfect, so my advise is to find a B & B, book golf seperately and enjoy it that way. Sorry to be down on this hotel but if it was cheaper you could understand but it is trying to be something it isn't.

The hotel is set at the edge of the golf course and the views from the upper bar area and the restaurant window are wonderful. Besides the golf course the hotel has a gym and swimming pool. The rooms are made up from converted barns around a central courtyard the setting is... more
