I think most of the previous reviewers were staying at a different place or maybe even on a different planet!!
My partner and I were pleasantly surprised with how nice the apartments were during our recent 15 day holiday, having read such dire reports about it on several websites.
On arrival, by an excellent taxi service, at La Vallette Resort across the road we were told that our room would be ready at about 1pm and that we could leave our luggage in their left luggage room, which we did, then went out for a walk.
We found our room to be ready on our return about ten past one. It was no 802 on the fifth floor, a lovely light room with a balcony overlooking Paceville Street.
The apartment was clean and had new toaster, kettle, adequate fridge etc, plenty of storage space and hangers and three single beds which were very comfortable indeed. It also had a safe (extra charge) and much needed celing fan over the beds which worked well. The bathroom was also very clean and despite the shower being hand held it provided a good flow of water for bathing. Fresh towels and tea towels were also provided.
As for noise the only noise we heard was during the daytime when building was going on further down the road on a new block of flats or something similar!
At night we were too far down Dragonara Road to hear the noise from Paceville itself and indeed underneath us on the ground floor was an Italian Restaurant and one of the ubiquitous 'English Languaage' schools that seem to have sprung up in Malta since our last visit!!
Overall it was a great base for our holiday and would certainly be pleased to come and stay here again. For those people whose lives must include a 'heart of the home' kitchen with an iron (who wants one of those on holiday?) and all mod cons, LCD TV etc etc ,then this place is not for you. Go and stay at the Hilton down the road and pay for its facilities.
For a couple on a budget, it is great value!

The rooms are absolutely disgusting! We found long black hair on our bathroom floor upon entering and it was obvious that the whole room had not been cleaned in a very long time!!
The shower does not have a curtain, but that doesnt matter much because one doesnt want to shower in that shower anyways. i recommend the pool in the hotel across the street, there are outside showers as well. everythings pretty cold over there because of the wind and the cold water coming out of the showers but its a hundred times better than going into that bathroom. I also recommend the use of disinfectant spray. i wouldnt want to touch the toilet otherwise with its black seat (great way not to see the stains)
Walking around barefoot in the room causes BLACK feet, thats how filthy it is. We had 5 cockroaches during our one week stay! The beds were terribly short, my feet (I'm 5'7") were hanging over the matress and the sheets were covered with not identifiable body fluids, blood, and yellow stains! Everybody has 2 towels to last for four days covered with similar stains. The "maid" comes once a week, exchanges toilet paper and towels, thats it!! Same hair on floor, same dirt all over the floor, same gross sheets.
The rooms do not have an air condition which causes them to be terribly hot. Windows should be completely open at all times (whether you shut them or not doesnt really matter because there is no way to really close them/they can be opened from outside).
If one has a complaint there is nobody to talk to because the burlington apartments dont have a reception. To get the keys one has to go to the hotel across the street!
The kitchen is another yucky area! Everythings alive there! The toaster and the stove have probably never been cleaned. We bought plastic plates/cutlery/cups because we did not even want to touch the things there. We found one pepper shaker and the pepper inside was moving because of the little animals inside!
Our apartment was supposed to have satellite TV. We didn't even have a TV! Some rooms have a fixture for a tv without the tv, the rooms with a tv get two channels.
The only aspect in which these apartments earn a positive remark is the location. The public beach is about 5 minutes walk away and the clubs are about 2 min walking distance.
The Burlington Apartments are only suited for young teenage groups. whether day or night its terribly loud! There are clubs and bars all around the place. The elevators are in a very bad condition, within a week we managed to get stuck twice and had to force the doors to open with muscle strength to get out. I also doubt that a wheelchair is able to fit into the elevators.

giving a 1 rating on these apartments is generous.
my husband and i booked this as a cheap and cheerful. it certainly fitted the cheap but cheerful it was not.
it was a dirty, grotty, cockroach dive. stunk of pee on the stairs. warren hole of corridors. our door had been kicked in at some time and the frame was broken.
we arrived late afternoon and went out to look round the front. it seemed to be ok down the hill.
we had taken my son with us who is a young teen and i would NOT recommend these apartments at all for under 18s. noise was unbearable and just when you thought it was going to go quiet after 2am, it kicked off again about 4 in morning and i mean literally kicked off. doors were being kicked in, shouting, drunkeness, swearing.
dont get me wrong i dont mind people having a good time and this place is ok for these who go out all night and crash all day oblivious to what is crawling around.
not fit for cooking in.
i can't say much more we did not see a rep, my husband wanted to just book us on flights back home and cut our loses.
we went to the people responsible for the apartments and paid out about £180 , big chunk of our spending money and transfered into a hotel in st pauls bay. can't fault the woman even tho it proved costly she was extremly helpful.
it salvaged our holiday.
HOLIDAY FROM HELL.... without the move... without a shadow of a doubt.
i would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
i like to feel safe when i go away and none of our party felt this.
one sleepless night in what has to be the worst establishment i have ever had the misfortune to spend anytime in.
if you have booked already i would recommend paying a bit more and moving.
if you do that malta can be fun and a nice place for families but st julians is definatley for the 18-30 culture.

It's true what they say, you get what you pay for!. On arrival to the appartments there was no meet and greet service, luck being i've been to st julians before and knew where to go for the keys. However on going over the road to La Valette hotel it was shut for refurbishment! so off i trot to st george's park to be told that the keys would be delivered there at 2pm! the time being now 12.30, took salvation in the pub!. on collection of keys had to find our room ourselve's, ourselve's being one stressed three year old, one 61 yrs myself and partner. The apartment was very basic, and considering it was self catering it was just clean enough to boil the kettle, when we got it fixed, toaster didn't work, and every time you went to use the hot plate the electricity blew,so had to reset trip switch! bed's very basic, matress thin, pillows stained on removal of cases need i go on?.
The resort itself has gone downhill since my last visit, rubbish everywhere total haven for the student's, and to my horror we found three lap dancing clubs! and this is supposed to be a family resort?
And considering we had payed to use the facilities at la valette resort as well that just took the biscuit, they say they have refurbed the hotel, sorry i don't call vamping up the reception area a refurb!
My advice to anyone with a family or wanting a quiet holiday DO NOT GO TO ST JULIANS!!!!!!!!!
You will be very disappointed
Next year we are all going to holland, nice people, tidy country, good food!

my 3 friends and i stayed at the burlington court apartments last week, it cost £114 between the four of us for the week and i can say that it was really good value for money, our apartment had 4 beds, a fridge, ceiling fans and clean towels were provided, the only bad point being the handheld shower. ye it didnt have a swimming pool, gym or amazing facilities, but at £28 a week each we didnt expect, or need them!! it was in a great and convienient location for young people or anyone who wants to go out and have some fun in paceville, i really recommend visiting malta, the people are so friendly and its a beautiful country, i'll definatly be going back!

We found the apartments very noisy and as we were staying for a week over Xmas there were rarely any staff around. The apartments were not kept clean and bins not emptied!
The area is quite lively with lots of young people clubbing away! Restaurants were not always great, but there are plenty of late night snack places open. People were reasonably friendly there and prices pretty average for Europe.
There is a tiny beach close to the apartments that’s very cute and clean. There were rarely any people there so it was nice for romantic walks. Although it's a very large built up town there were some nice walks, and a long pier that's got great views.
It's not fantastic for shopping, but more suited to people looking for great nightlife and not much sleep!

What can I say other than would not recommend THESE APARTMENTS for the following reasons:
My apartment had a steep internal staircase leading down into the living area, the stair railing was broken and absolutely dangerous! breaking just about every Health and Safety rule going. This was eventually fixed (albeit inadequately, to break again later) on the third day of our visit.
The Safe door in my apartment had, had its door prised off and I seriously questioned the level of security from our rear window which was on the same level as the fire escape. The safe was not fixed during my stay
The cooker did not work properly!
The Bathroom looked third world, cracked dirty tiling and a toilet replaced and fixed with bare cement. The considerable RUST in the bath was actually painted over when I complained!!!
We had a 1 bedroom flat meaning I slept in the main area on the sofa bed, as there was no ventilation or fan there I only had an alternative to roast or sleep with the door open, imagine Paceville which is lively until 6am and you will understand why this really was a problem.
The Advertised Satellite TV did not exist, however what was left of the TV bracket and wiring(!) were still there leaving a sharp pointed piece of metal at the eye level height of my 12 year old daughter. When I complained an antiquated black and white portable TV appeared with 2 channels available - 1 Maltese and 1 Italian - neither English speaking.
You are able to pay a nominal amount for use of the facilities at St George's Park, but I wouldn't bother, I went to the gym once it was filthy, unsupervised and dangerous! I didn't even bother to look at the pool after this!
Seating was ripped. walls poorly painted (paint on the floor and tiles - haven't these people heard of cutting in?) and poorly fitted door frames were coming away from the walls.
We were facing the monolithic La Valetta hotel, which was full of unruly Italian teenagers... If I hear whistling and Bella Bella Chica one more time!
the Sunspot/Mercury rep was absolutely hopeless in getting these problems addressed nice guy - wrong planet
In all honesty my complaint is not with the staff of the apartments who like all Maltese people that I met were very friendly and courteous. This apartment is obviously part of the same group as La Valetta and St George's Park. Keys are collected from La Valetta and everything has the same development company's address on it. These apartments are old and have obviously been (badly) refurbished recently.
I visited with Mercury Direct / Sunspot and quite honestly they should be ashamed of themselves - not just for overselling these apartments as 3 star!!! but also for their inability to deal with a serious customer complaint. Given their reply I honestly don't think that they even bothered to read my letter, I was not even asking for compensation just an acknowledgment that they had got it wrong!
I don’t ask much from an apartment but Burlington Apartments were seriously lacking!
My daughter and I loved Malta and he people, Paceville was a little too lively for a family holiday but if you are still young enjoy it! The St Julian Festa (at the end of August) was fun and the trips around the island unmissable!
I will never use Mercury Direct / Sunspot again and I would suggest that anyone considering a holiday in Malta doesn’t either!
