This is a lovely hotel, very luxurious and worthy of your money. The reception staff and concierge were very helpful. Our room was spacious with a fantastic shower that will blast you clean! Its funny that we too had a dodgy shower door that caused water to flood out into... more

The Hotel first opened in early 2007 so as you would expect everything is in perfect condition. There is a roof top pool to relax by during the day or if you would prefer a short walk, then there are many sunbathing locations around St Julian’s Bay itself. The Villa... more

Not 5 Star Service, Avoid with Small Children!
I am afraid to say that our experiance was tarnished from the very start. On arrival we had to wait three hours and view three rooms before we were given the sea view that was promised after we upgraded the day before arrival. A minor, although irritating point, was that throughout the wait we did no receive our welcome drinks until a kindly porter pursued them on our behalf. I will say that the final room that we were allocated was an Executive Room with fantastic balcony sea views and that this upgrade was given at the originally agreed price! Overall the staff seem very inexperianced, harrassed and slow for a five star hotel. We had several problems with accessing our room with faulty key cards and also experianced a period with brown hot water. The reception staff took an age to respond to both problems. The hotel cannot be recommended for those with small children as there are no suitable entertainment facilities and the rooftop pool is very small and inadequate for a hotel of this size. The hotel has five star potential but lacks five star service. I would suggest that it is suitable for business travellers and couples rather than familes. .
Not a 5 Star Experience
First impressions of this hotel are impressive. New, modern almost boutique feel to the place. Rooms are spacious, well equipped and of a high quality (apart from the beds - see previous review). However, a combination of inexperienced staff and reactive rather than pro-active management leaves the hotel struggling to deliver anything resembling 5 star service. A few examples - we were kept waiting 5 hours on arrival for our preferred room type. The hotel shuttle bus to Valetta and local beaches had been suspended without notice and the indoor pool was out of action for the duration of our stay with no alternative facilities offered until we complained to the General Manager. Our room frequently wasn't serviced until late in the afternoon and astonishingly for a 5 Star hotel it wasn't turned down once during our stay. Service at the hotel's pool bar and road front cafe was patchy (45 minute wait for a sandwich for example and having to go and get your own drinks from the bar because your order never arrives were not uncommon during our stay). If you're looking for a smart room and you can get a deal on the internet then it's probably a good choice. However, if you're looking for a 5 Star experience then my advice would be to stay elsewhere. The Hilton possibly.......
Le Meridien St Julians
I thought I should leave a quick reveiw seeing as I used Trip Advisor a lot before we went. The hotel itself is lovely, definately a 5* as the travel agent said. The rooms are fabulous and really well furnished. Of course they have air conditioning which is a must and all have a balcony. There is an option of a sea view or a "carpark" view and obviously there is a difference in price. We went for the "carpark" as we tend not to stay in the room that much but it turns out that most evenings we did sit out on the balcony before heading off to town for dinner. It would have been nice to have a sea view! The biggest disappointment though was the pool. It is rooftop so fairly small for such a big hotel. There isn't much shade so you have to get up there before 10am to get an umbrella. There were a surprising amount of children also. I am not particularly tolerant of children when I am trying to relax especially when they pelt balls from one end of the pool to another irrespective of whether people are in the way or not! Very frustrating. There was a nice secluded sunbathing area away from the pool if it got really out of hand! We didn't really use the hotel restuarants much. The poolside bar/grill does lovely food but is very expensive. Soft drinks cost in the region of £3 so be prepared! A lunch for two there cost just over £20. If you leave the hotel and head to one of the restaurants/cafes on the sea front you get a much better deal and the food isn't bad. We also treated ourselves to a meal at the main restaurant , The Villa Brasserie. Its very posh and the food is lovely. But if they ask you if you want water with your meal watch out - a bottle of still water cost £7.00!!! Breakfast wise, try the bakery under the Villa Brasserie which does gorgeous pain-au-chocolat for a fraction of the price of the hotel breakfast. All in all its a fantastic hotel and we a brilliant week there. Its not cheap but given that your staying in a hotel of this standard, its worth it.
Honeymoon Bliss
We stayed at the Le Meridien-St. Julians for our honeymoon in May, and we couldn’t have chosen a better location. The front desk staff provided us with OUTSTANDING service – Italo went above and beyond the call of duty for us on several occasions. And Roberto, the maitre d' in the Scirocco Restaurant, greeted us each morning with a smile, a wonderful sense of humor, and a table with an amazing view of Balluta Bay. Visiting the spa was like stepping into a Thai resort, and we loved the peacefulness of it. We chose the deluxe ocean view room, and seeing the Mediterranean every day from our balcony was well worth it. The convenient bus stop outside of the hotel made day trips to Mdina, Valetta, and Mellieha Bay a breeze. The lounge on the roof was still under construction when we visited and a few other parts of the hotel looked a bit unfinished, but our room and the service were so perfect, we didn’t care. It was the best hotel experience of our lives, and we are planning to return to Le Meridien-St. Julians for one of our anniversary celebrations in the future. Highly recommended – WONDERFUL service!
its ok but not 5 star
staff are friendly and the hotel is pretty well maintained. however the outdoor pool is very small and always full of people (which is why they don't show a pic of it on their web site).the room was always dusty. room service menu is terrible, very limited choice. we ordered a chicken salad which was rubbery and did not taste like chicken at all. buffet breakfast is average. it feels more like a 3/4 star hotel. would not stay there again.
central and great views
excellent hotel and excellent location. we just wanted a couple of days relaxing in the comfort of a hotel and we got an excellent service. one great thing about this hotel is the view from the hotel room. the service has some theeting problems but then the rates are reasonable. the only thing which we did not like was the pool though it has excellent views it is quite small
good but teething problems
Overall we had a good stay there, we didn't use much of the facilities since we're the type to use the hotel just to sleep in rather than center our holiday round the hotel, so we couldn't comment on other aspects. I found the pools very small though and woud have used them more if they were of decent sizes. We only used the cocktail bar, staff are friendly but service was slow. We weren't impressed with the chambermaid, she wasn't thorough and would miss out something everyday, forgot to repace the glass or replace the face towels. One time she knocked but walked straight into the room before I had time to ask her not to come in, then she ran off without apologising. On 2 occasions she took away one of the bathrobes so I had to phone reception to retrieve them. The maid also didn't serviced our room one day, they did offer to clean it when I rang and complained but we were shattered after a whole day of diving we just wanted to put our feet up without being disturbed. They weren't very attentive, I've had to phone up a few times for more shower gel and tissues. Despite these tiny issues, we were very happy with our stay and I'm sure you will too.
great location, but pricey for what it is
I stayed at the Hotel Meridien, St Julien's in April and it is a good location as the main strip is walking distance, with several bus stops near by but its not quite the 5* Meridien I have seen before. The hotel was only just complete when we arrived, but it didn't spoil our stay. The rooms are very spacious with nice bathrooms but it is a bog standard hotel. Nothing really speacial except the view which is overlooking the sea and for that price I expected a little something special. It was perfectly clean and the service was swift. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are tonnes of restaurants walking distance away. Ask for the area near the cinema, we almost missed it. There are some great food places down there. Enjoy
A week in St julians
We booked this hotel at a very reasonable price on expedia due to the fact it had only recently opened. Initially when we were arrived we were greeted with some cold orange which was most welcome after the heat outside. On the whole the reception staff seemed very friendly with the exception of the one who appeared to be dealing with us. After much tapping on the computer and phonecalls we were told to take a seat but not explained why, then waited for around 40 mins before we were finally given a room with no apologies or explanation. When we got to the room it was a double instead of a twin, next we were moved to a twin room that clearly smelled of smoke (nonsmoking had been requested). At this point a senior got involved and we were moved to an upgraded room. Lovely and spacious, with a balcony overlooking the bay. Having seen 3 other rooms prior to this it is definitely worth the upgrade (views at the back are of the car park). So, to give credit to the staff they did not fob us off and continued to help through all the hiccups at the beginning to get us exactly what we had booked (and more). Anyway, other than that we had a lovely stay. Hotel had nice neutral decor, the rooftop pool was fully working (although the bar there was due to extend to a restaurant the day after we left, but at the time we were there served simple sandwiches and all drinks). The spa had a lovely atmosphere and I enjoyed a good massage there, and the food (although quite pricey for breakfast - but there is a cafe that sells croissants etc within the hotel also) was very nice indeed with a choice of cafes/restaurants within the hotel, and plenty of choice just a 5 minute walk down the bay. The only thing unfinished now it seems is the shops on the ground floor, I also hear a rumour that they maybe developing the bay area in front of the hotel into a sandy beach in the future. All in all a lovely relaxing stay, in a location that is away from the main site of noise, but close and easily accessible to all amenities on your doorstep - we walked to sliema in 15 minutes, and st georges bay in 5mins.
Good Hotel, Great Location
This is a really good 5 star hotel set in the most perfect location on the island. I have visited Malta several times and stayed in many different hotels but this is the first world class hotel that Malta has to offer. The location of this hotel really makes it with great views accross the bay, it is set between the lively St Julians and the large town of Sliema. The check in is good with a welcoming glass of juice, rooms are well decorated with contemporary furnishings, my only small complaint would be the bed which should have had pillow top matresses as in the Westin, the beds are firm but could have been a little more comfortable with that addition. The bathrooms are large with a great separate shower and deep corner bath, the toilet is in its own room off the bedroom. The public areas are again well decorated and contemporary, the bar area is very comfortable with good service. The Sirrocco restaurant is well done but the breakfast buffet, whilst good in quality is very over priced. The adjoining Villa Brasserie is really excellent, food is good quality, service impecable and not too over priced. The rooftop pool is a little small but has fantastic views, a nicer area is just off the pool on the roof with sun loungers set in a garden like setting, again with terific views. The spa is beautifully laid out with huge indoor swimming pool, the steam room and sauna are however mixed and should have been separate. Whilst I did not have a spa treatment my wife did, the quality was good but not great and there seemed to be a lack of overall communication. That said, there seemed some communication problems throughout the hotel, even in the rooms, where we could not find out how to book Dinner reservations at the Villa or information on how the air conditioning worked or the telephone charges. Whilst these are small points it is the difference between a good hotel and a great hotel. Having stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world, I would say that this is almost there if they can iron out a few issues.
