new atractions coming soon to beach front
my stay at the hotel was excelent even the staff were great. sandfields estate is not a run down estate as there are move private housing rather than council. i live in the top end of werstern avenune (big private homes). i stayed at hotel because i went to a wedding on friday 10th aug. and as for the becch front for people slagging it off people as far as mid wales come down every here and my opinion and a few other think its a lot better than mumbles!. there been a lot of improvements over the years here, they are in the middle of... more
Unfair description of location
I have not stayed at this hotel I live locally the description of an industrial wasteland is unfair in the extreme it is located on the seafront at Aberafan this beach is kept beautifully clean all year round and is a pleasure to visit at any time. Turn in any direction from the hotel front door and you will find activities the Afan lido is almost next door there is also a Cinema complex close in walking distance about 5 minutes max. Across from the hotel on the seafront is a lovely coffee/ice cream parlour Remos and further along... more
OK for business - don't take the family
I have stayed in this hotel once every year for 4 years due to work commitments. Positive : the pool is excellent Negative: it is in the middle of an estate - whether you call it industrial or council is up to interpretation. It is not somewhere I would visit for a holiday but it is fine for a business course. The food has alway been OK (never written home about it) but apart from the beach there is nowhere to walk to - apart from the steel works.
A delightful discovery
My husband and I stayed at this delightful hotel for one night whilst enroute to Ireland. My only regret is that we did not have more time here to explore the area. We had a little trouble locating the hotel (perhaps due to the navigator - the next morning we took a different route on to the Motorway and it was much easier) but enjoyed the trip through the villages (and yes, we did see the steel mill in the distance!). Seeing how the local people live and work is what travel is all about - not what the tourist brochures want you to see.... more
Very very below standard
We stayed here 1 Sat night due to having a wedding nearby. The hotel was extremely dated, set out in the middle of an industrial wasteland. Admittedly it was on the ocean and the view from the room was lovely but the huge steel works nearby do marr the atmosphere. The room was ok, but old and worn. There was a huge hole in the ceiling in the corridor. I felt it was extremely over priced for what it offered. Costing the same amount I paid for a gorgeous little hotel in the Cotswolds. The worst part was the food, which says a... more
Management response from A TripAdvisor Member

Our hotel is not situated on an industrial wasteland, but on Aberavon Beach, a sandy beach stretching 3 miles near to a residential area. The hotel is within distance of Port Talbot Corus steelworks, but is in close proximity to a cinema, an indoor water park, 4 restaurants, an ice cream parlour and a childrens play area, which are all situated on the seafront. All of our bedrooms were redecorated and refurbished in the last 2 years and are not worn or old. At the time of this guests stay, there had been a water leak in the corridor from a bathroom, which was the reason for the missing ceiling tile. We offer all our guests a breakfast buffet starter with croissants, danish pastries, a choice of cereals, fruit juices, fruits, melon and a cheese platter. The main courses are usually served as a hot buffet and all are grilled and not deep fried. The Cotswolds is a pretty area, but South Wales, in spite of having some industries, has a lot to offer, with it's fantastic coastline, it's industrial heritage and numerous activitites and attractions.

wonderful new year, 2004/2005
The welcome and stay of four days at this hotel was wonderful. We were a party of elderly from North Wales. The staff and service were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for these dedicated and professional people. The food was superb. Included in the package was a trip to the Panto in Swansea. A tour of the Gower coast which was accompanied by staff from the hotel with coffee tea mince pies and more warming drinks! The facilities at the hotel were very comfortable. There is an excellent leisure suite which I used each... more
