Holiday Inn Express Newport Hotel

The room was pleasant, airconditioned and very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially Laura, who was a star. Overall a good night's sleep and good value for money with two teenagers. However, the breakfast was disappointing compared to usual HI expresses. There were fewer choices, for example, no fruit salad, pastries or marmite, limited fruit,and cereals,and the toasters were playing up badly. Stayed for three nights. Service was very good, staff friendly and helpful. Room had double bed and double sofa bed and room still did not feel cramped. Primarily used by business people, but we stayed with my 4 year old grand daughter who loved it. Complimentary continental breakfast available each morning which was more than adequate. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Newport for one night on business in February 2009. The location is pretty good, being just off junction 28 of the M4, but far enough away from the M4 so that the noise is not a problem. I was visiting EADS which is about 200 yards away as the crow flies, so was very convenient for me. I booked it over the phone with the Holiday Inn reservations team. I stayed here with my fiance in May 2008, just for one night as we were attending a tae kwon-do tournament in Cardiff the following day. I booked a room in Newport as it seemed a cheaper alternative to Cardiff, which is only 20-25 minutes away by car. We stayed at the Newport HIE when we went to see the final round of the World Rally Championship in Cardiff. We expected the hotel to be be busy as Cardiff was completely booked but it didn't seem to be. The rooms were standard Holiday Inn Express, clean, spacious, warm and comfortable. The Holiday Inn Express Newport offers good accommodation for far too much money. I don't understand why a room cost 140 Euro per night. You can get other HI Express hotels for 70-90 Euros. Location is perfect. Rooms are clean, modern and functional. Breakfast is basic like all HI Express places. I can not agree with the previous comments about the staff. Holiday Inn Express offers reasonable quality of accommodation for a good price. This hotel is a particularly good example of Holiday Inn Express at its best. The rooms and public areas in this hotel were spotless and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel cannot be described as luxurious but the decor is modern and in good order and as stated it is really, really clean. The Holiday Inn Express chain caters to the business traveler. No frill, but a good basic hotel. There's a buffet breakfast in the morning, a bar in the lobby with snacks at night, and an efficiently designed room that is immaculately clean. But no air-conditioning. That won't matter most of the time, but it did during the heat wave I experienced. we stayed here after going to see U2 in Cardiff, as all the accomodation in Cardiff was sold-out. Considering relatively low price, had low expectations but this hotel is excellent value for money. Close to motorway, and only 10 minute taxi ride to newport station, we came back late having not eaten and were able to order room service full meal for less than £10 each AND it was edible! Highly recommend this if you are passing through the area.

This was the last stop on our vacation, and provided all we needed. Exceeded expectations compared to other Holiday Inn Express hotels we have stayed in. The rooms were comfortable, clean and the hotel is New. Breakfast area and lobby were nicely decorated, and the continental breakfast was ample.
