Not so Grand at all
1 / 10
Oct 2011, Dan W

Me and my partner booked from Sunday until today (Tuesday) and really feel like we need to share our experiences with you all.
Yes the hotel is dated, weather beaten and in need of a good paint, however, the hotel is cheap and self-certified 2 star rating, so we didn't expect a lot. We had 2 complaints.
1) on the first day we went down for the buffet breakfast where my partner had a nice full English including beans. The next morning we returned. My partner saw no beans so enquired only to be told " sorry, you can't have any as they are for premier customers". This complaint is laughable, however as paying guests they shouldn't have said no,also beans really aren't classed as "premier food". This however was not our main concern.
2) This morning I woke up early and had a lie in. Unfortunately after 5 minutes it became very apparent that the mattress smelt very strongly of stale urine. Although the covers were clean the mattress smelt really bad. After a along shower we made our way to the downstairs but couldn't really say anything as the other guests were making their way to the food hall they were being asked to apply hand sanitizer before entering the hall. I didn't want to make people have more to worry about. I have since written to the hotel's head office but as of yet have had no reply.
If I do ever get a reply I will post the reply on here as I do believe everyone has the right to have their say. but for now all I can say is...don't stay there, pay a few more pounds and actually enjoy all that Llandudno has to offer.
Since returning home I have also been quite ill so I imagine the hand sanitizers were due to a bug perhaps. We'll never know:
Since writing this yesterday I have had a response from the hotel. The Duty Manager politley hung up on me and Britannia Hotel head office will be contacting me within the next 28 days. I'll keep you all posted

The room was booked through the organisers of the trip, of which I was the coach driver.
Upon arrival, the concierge was friendly and advised me where I could park the coach overnight. I got lost and resorted to call the hotel again, the young lady was very helpful ... and I managed to park up safely! The same receptionist recommended a good place for a late supper!
The room was tiny however, the light in the bath room flickered relentlessly so I had to switch it off to have a bath.
The general appearance of the property is a low note. The Grand looks old and run down. You need to take 2 lifts to get to 5th floor. A nuisance if you have luggage and your tired from a long trip!
In all, very good service from staff. Appearance and quality a disappointment.

Having just returned from a 5 day break at the hotel.
My wife and I where more than please with everything the hotel had to offer food cleanliness , entertainment could not be faulted.
We have been to the hotel on 5 previous occasions but this was the best and have booked to return in November. We were very impressed with the care taken with reguard to hand cleaning facilaties in the toilets and dinning room.

Just come back from Llandudno,...

Just come back from Llandudno, although the weather let us down some days we had a beautiful Premier room at the Grand.
It was in the tower at the back, which gave us a large balcony and three sets of windows with views of the Orme, the sea and the promenade. We also had a table in the Premier dining room which has great views, and good food.
This was an Entertainment break and, although the entertainment was quite good, and fairly professional, it was a bit on the dated side for us!
We preferred to tour the pubs of the town, of which there are some good ones - including the Palace (Wetherspoons), and the Kings Arms - behind the tram station for the Orme, which is a marvellous old pub with real ales and a great menu, try a pint - they will let you taste a sample before you buy!
Llandudno is always a great base for touring, and with Snowdon, Llanberis pass, Electric Mountain etc., on your doorstep, the only thing left to wish for is for the rain to stop, then you can see those magnificent views!

The Grand Hotel was very far from...

Jan 2007, Mr S Hughes

The Grand Hotel was very far from Grand.
The room was filthy, the toilet and shower was smelly. The food was bad.
The public toilets was not cleaned for the three days we stayed and the staff were few and far between.
On the positive side the hotel is situated in a great place.

The reception, food and entertainment was excellent. The meals were first class and always hot.
The cleanliness was excellent.
All staff were friendly and polite.
It was so good, we booked another holiday prior to leaving and received a 12% deduction.
the Grand is situated on the Prime position. On the water front just a few minutes walk to town.
Value for money. Overall, for what we paid for the holiday it was second to none.
Please pass on our thanks and appreciation.
