Travelodge Cardiff Hotel

Having previously stayed at the travelodge in May the year before it was with a degree of concern I entered the building, I had previously considered this the worst hotel I had ever stayed in. This time the reception was quiet and since we had arrived a couple of hours early our room wasnt ready. After my last experience with the hotel and there luggage storing routine my luggage stayed locked in the car. We stayed 2 nights on the cheap Travelodge deal of £26 per room per night and thought we got what we had paid for. The location is excellent and if you ring a few days before they will book you into a quiet room. The breakfast was lacklustre but again it's not the Ritz but nearby cafes may be a better and cheaper option.

My friend and I stayed there overnight to catch a plane the next day from cardiff airport. They let us check in early which was great. First thing, the lift wasn't in operation which caused big problems for us with heavy suitcases, which had to be heaved up 3 flights of stairs. The room was very very basic for (in my opinion) far too much money. This hotel does have a great location slap bang in the centre of Cardiff, but the room was in desperate need of a repaint, the carpet was filthy and heavily stained, and under the bed it appeared to never have been cleaned, the TV didn't work properly, and the toilet was not fixed to the floor properly resulting in a slight leak every time you flushed. We stayed at the hotel this weekend just gone (May 4th and 5th) for the Rugby League millenium magic weekend and we were really worried after the reading the reviews on the website. But as long as you request a room at the back of the hotel or looking onto the middle roof, you will not be disturbed by the noise from the bars on St Marys Street. It is in an excellent location, right by the Millenium Stadium (we could see it from our room), by all the bars, restaurants and shops and at the side of station if you are travelling into Cardiff... more

Most of the adverse comments concerning this hotel are about the noise. As I had the view of the car park I must admit I never hound a sound from Walkabout - and I had my window open. Otherwise its a typical Travelodge experiance not great but OK and no complanints. The breakfast at a few pounds more was just about worth the money

I just stayed here on Wednesday and Thursday night (14th and 15th February) and this is the catalogue of events: 14th: checked in (great location), room small(132) and very grubby...bathroom had mould in tile grout. Could hear noise but assumed it was the construction behind the train station, found out later it is the generator from the Walkabout pub..it does'nt stop ALL night. Its a very basic hotel and in a great location if it wasn't directly above the Walkabout Pub! What a silly place for a hotel! I read the reviews about this place before i went and people were complaining about noise, they were right!! I stayed in room 103, on a Sunday and a Monday night, Sunday wasn't so bad as there wasn't any loud music at night. On Monday night there was loud bass and music which went on until 2am! Stayed at this Travelodge for 3 Nights over a Rugby International sporting event -6 nations-. The location is by far the best in Cardiff, The Car Park, Train station, mellinium stadium, nightlife and local shops were all there right on the door step. During my stay the staff were extremley friendly and efficent, nothing was to much trouble, 5* service at a budget type hotel (3 Nights for 3 adults cost me under £90!!!). Even if everything else is perfect; if a hotel is so noisy that you can't sleep then it is basically useless. Whilst a little frayed around the edges it wasn't dirty, and the staff were friendly; but the noise from the main street and adjacent night club was too much to allow sleep. Reading other reviews, perhaps the secret is to get a rear facing room on the top floor, as my experiences were in a street facing room on the second floor.
