pleasant stay
Traditional hotel in lovely surroundings. Stayed on 1st floor in spacious bedroom. Hotel is starting to look a bit run down. All of the staff were attentive and eager to serve. Ate 2 nights in the restaurant which was a really pleasant experience. Leisure complex looks gorgeous. Lots of meeting/conference rooms at the hotel and plenty of parking.
Pleasent hotel at a good price
I have stayed here a few times - they have 3 bedded rooms for families (but surprisingly not room for 2 children) but in a seperate building (70s motel-type) from the nice one you see in the photos. But the rooms are comfortable and clean. Geared up for wedding parties it is a beautiful back-drop for photos with nice gardens and you drive down a dark narrow lane through a golf course to reach the hotel. The swimming pool is very nice and the staff are friendly. A bit of a trek into cardiff especially at night but if you get a good... more
No Response Whatsoever To Complaint
In July 2007 my partner and I stayed at St Mellons for one night and came away with mixed feelings over this hotel. On a positive note, the food was very good and excellent value. On a negative note, there were no toiletries in the bathroom, only empty dispensers, and the hotel did look a bit shabby and in need of some attention. We were quoted the wrong rate by the hotel staff, and after paying the bill (which was double what we were quoted) we went home and penned a letter to the management outlining our disappointment that they had... more
Very shabby hotel
Just wanted to add a quick write up on how disappointed I was with this hotel. Granted, my stay was for work purposes so I wasn't in a "holiday" frame of mind but you would think that my food would at least arrive warm and around the same time as my colleagues!! It didn't taste all that great either I have to say. And this goes for the two days of my stay there. Although the waiting staff all seemed very nice, they also looked terribly young and were very inexperienced - did the hotel have an arrangement going on with the local sixth... more
Worst hotel
stayed for 2 nights in July and it was just awful. the rooms were dirty and smelly with staff that didn't seem to care. will now be going back EVER!
pleasant stay at a nice hotel
Stayed at the St Mellons for one night. Really nice location, out in the country, surrounded by a golf course, so very peaceful. Stayed in the main house; the room was a reasonable size, nicely decorated and with all the usual facilities. Dinner was good; approx £20 for 3 courses, and waiting staff were very attentive. Breakfast was OK although food was a little cold, but again service was good. Excellent liesure facilities, swimming pool, sauna, gym - all free to hotel guests. All in all an enjoyable stay, at a reasonably priced... more
Needing some work
Hotel is shabby for the standard. Food and drinks overpriced. However, staff were friendly and efficient. Only stayed for one night for friend's b'day party so no point in complaining. 'Hot' water was warm enough to wash but too cool to bathe, fixtures and fittings were shakey and hotel had a general run-down feel
lacking management guidance
Attended a wedding and also stayed the night.......booking in was ok.room was nice....bathroom clean no toiletries in the bathroom which is bad for a hotel of this standard......others commented.......chap behind bar did his best but on his own so service was lacking ran out of glasses why are these places not geared up for the initial rush not staffs fault this is down to management. bar in function room very busy could not cope service should always be next but one gets served......to top it all as residents we could not get served in... more
Top Notch service
We got married here and the customer service was excellent - the best I've had at any hotel in the UK. The attention to detail was tremendous. The hotel also has a leisure club and adjoins a golf course. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Unhelpful Desk staff
I urgently needed to get hold of someone who may have been staying at the hotel. The person answering the phone was so unhelpful it must have taken a lot of effort. She refused to search for the person on her records as they had a very common surname and there were too many to go through. What excellent customer service!
