Don't Stay On The Top Floor!
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed here with friends for the weekend and unfortunately we were given top floor rooms. The refurbishment hasn't made it up to the fifth floor yet and our room was grubby with peeling wallpaper. We even had water dripping from the ceiling in one corner. The breakfast was fine and the staff were friendly. Not the nicest area of Cardiff either but convenient for the CIA and shopping! Not sure I'd risk staying there again although it may be better when it's finished off.
Convenient for CIA but expensive
from hannaford
We left it late to book accommodation for 1 night when visiting Cardiff to see a concert at the CIA. This was a mistake as virtually all the hotels were booked up due to many sporting and music events on at the same time. We booked the Park Inn due to its proximity to the CIA and it couldn't be more convenient. However convenience comes at a price - the executive room and parking were £165.00 - whilst this might be acceptable for plush accommodation and an excellent breakfast, sadly this was not our experience. The hotel is in the middle of a major refurbishment programme, and the plans are impressive. The current reality however is somewhat different - significant disruption inside and outside the hotel, an indifferent tired dining room, average rooms and a very expensive bar. The breakfast buffet was varied but the sausages were hard like bullets. Would I return? Not until all the work is finished and definitely not paying £165.00 for the priviledge.
Good value short stay option
from Langton_Traveller
An overnight business stay necessitated a centrally located, value hotel and the Park Inn proved just the job. An unsightly building in an unlovely part of the city flanked by the conference centre and building sites did not bode well but opinion changed once in the room. The reception area is, thankfully, undergoing a major refurbishment which no doubt will also update the tired, old fashioned decor of the bar and dining room. The room had been updated and felt contemporary in decor, plus clean and fresh. The bed was lovely and firm allowing a good, undisturbed nights sleep - no noise that I noticed. Breakfast provided all the usual suspects and was plentiful in supply. The city centre is just around the corner and Cardiff Bay is a leisurely 20-30 minutes stroll. At £74 B&B, no complaints for a short stay.
Pleasant stay
from Leedsnut
Stayed for one night in April. Very central location close to station and shops. The hotel is undergoing what seems to be substantial refurbishment so there is lots of work activity. However, this did not impinge on my stay. My room was newly decorated, bright ,clean and smelled fresh. Bathroom was spotless with plenty of towels and products. Noise levels, which had been commented on by previous guests did not give any cause for concern at all. The bed was much too firm for my personal choice, but this is very much an individual matter. I used room service, which was delivered quickly, and politely, was well presented, and was of a high standard. Breakfast was plentiful, hot food was frequently replaced, and staff were accommodating. Check-in and check-out were fast and efficient, staff pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend for value for money, location, and service.
Great VFM city centre hotel
from poohbearEdinburgh
Spent 2 nights here while down for rugby match. Had triple room for £100 BB. 3 single beds in spotlessly clean room. Have no complaints whats so ever with reception, bar or rooms. Breakfast excellent. Hotel is currently overgoing makeover, but if could book again on similar terms would be my first choice.
Beware the receptionists!!
from CroydonKat
I wanted to add a review for this hotel just to give people an idea, as i found most reviews helpful and wanted to share my experence.... i booked 3 rooms for a group of 8 girls staying 2 nights in January 08, when booking these i gained very helpful advise from all at reservations as i had to make a number of ammendments and this was dealt with extremely quickly and professionally. Therefore, i was very much looking forward to staying at the park inn. However, upon arrival we were met at reception by a "Thomas" who was very unapproachable and i was a bit annoyed at the way he spoke as after a long train journey from london a warm welcome would have been very much appreciated, but as you can guess no such luck!! He was not a happy chap and his lack of knowledge of the types of rooms made me think why he was chosen to work on the front desk, as i had previously booked amongst one of the rooms a twin to which he said there was none available, this was annoying as i had booked it about a month before and had made numerous checks!! But lo and behold on finding the room it was in fact a twin!!!!???? Some reception training would be useful to this employee!!! Apart from this unwelcome arrival, the hotel is extremely clean and modern and a great location, no need to worry about cabs to the town centre, i would easily stay here again ( as long as this receptionist was not on duty!!) Be warned!!
Good location
from capap
Very good location in Cardiff city centre. The room was large and well furnished. I wouldn't say the bed was the most comfortable I've slept on but it was good enough. The bathroom was of a good standard. Room was on the 3rd floor and as I was there on the weekend there was a fair amount of noise which came from the bars across the street but I i could sleep through it easily. In the morning ther was a good buffet breakfast. Impersonal service but i guess the norm for this kind of hotel. Overall good for a short stay if you want to be in the centre of Cardiff.
Close to downtown Cardiff but not a great hotel
from 7MileBeach
We stayed one night at the Park Inn and it was ok but definitely not a "great" hotel. The location is about 3-4 blocks from downtown Cardiff which was nice. But the location was really the only positive. They have a bar downstairs and the bartender really had no clue what she was doing. I'm not sure if she was new but she really needed help and there wasn't any to be seen. We quickly left and walked into town and found some great bars. Cardiff is a fun city and we got to see how great it was bar hopping. Needless to say we didn't spend much time at the hotel and we would not stay again. The concierge was a little snotty when I tried to pay my dinner with my credit card and he told me they don't accept it because it didn't have a microchip on it (the ONLY place we stayed in our 2.5 week vacation that wouldn't accept my credit card). Like I mentioned before the hotel is a few blocks from a great downtown Cardiff so you might want to stay here specifically for location only.
Great location, perfect for concerts at the CIA
from butterflybarbie
After reading some of the reviews on here, i was pleasantly suprised with this hotel. Its a great location for concerts at the CIA (it is actually the closest hotel possible!) and also a great location for the centre of cardiff, which is less than a 10 minute walk. However, if you are not attending a concert, this hotel is not the best due to it getting very busy and noisy when concerts finish and everyone goes to the hotel bar. Only problem was that the heating did not work on the night of our stay, but after a few phone calls and going down to reception, the manager brought us a portable heater. You can also leave your car in the car park even after check-out and get the password to exit later on at night, this means that you only pay for one day's parking for the price of two days.....bonus! Dont listen to all the bad reviews on here, they must have visited a different hotel!!

Booked through late rooms so the price was roughly half that of the hotel "rack rate", and was therefore "reasonable". I would have been extremely disappointed if I had paid full price for this room. Classed as an "Executive" room, it was quite small, and the furniture... more
