Holiday Inn Cardiff North Hotel

Our second stay at this Premier Inn. Room was spacious and clean, nice bathroom with bath and shower, bed was big and comfortable, bit stingy with the tea, coffee, etc but I asked for more and got a month's supply! Eat in the restaurant, food was basic but good and reasonably priced, waiting staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine - the usual self-service arrangements but again waiting staff were helpful and attentive. We had booked this hotel for a two night stay over Easter. I had booked directly with the hotel over the phone and the staff were great. I got a written confirmation confirming the booking and guarunteeing the room types (one double, one twin, interconnecting). As we walked into the hotel and approached reception, the receptionist turned away and began sorting a pile of receipts, making us wait for a few minutes. This was an awful hotel, if it can even be called a hotel. When we checked it, in looked perfectly fine then we got to our room and the smell was disgusting. We had to leave straight away because the standard was so poor and it was like one of those trashy motels that they show on American tv. Stay away! You pay for what you get.

Its £56 a night, £7.50 for an all you can eat breakfast and kids under 16 eat free! Good night's sleep guarantee too. Excellent budget hotel accommodation, bedroom was too hot so they refunded our money, what more can you ask? Staff very friendly and breakfast staff exceptional. Bedrooms clean and good quality furniture. Can't fault it for what it is.

Stayed here twice last year for leisure, which was the first time since Premier Travel Inn took over the hotel (as it was previously a Holiday Inn and before that Posthouse and it was good then but needed some work on it. I have to say the hotel has improved since the change as PTI has upgraded the hotel, the bedrooms are much more modern now with new furnishings, and they were very clean. Awful hotel... booked twin rooms. Didn't get them. One room stunk beacuse there had been a flood in it. Staff were rude and ignorant. Never again. Stay well clear.

For some reason most holiday inns seem to be old 60's style buildings. While most are modern inside, this one is not in the rooms and corridors. There was a strong musty smell throughout and although the pool is nice, the shower curtains in the changing rooms were covered in mold. However the restaurant (both food and service) and lounge were excellent and the hotel is still perfectly reasonable with very comfortable beds, although I'd probably stay at one of their more modern rivals next time.

I'm the one who wrote the 'OK BUT NEEDS REFURBISHMENT' review/ Stayed here again recently ( December of as we thought it would be good second time as we had a apology letter after we complained saying they've been tryin to improve. Well, the rooms are the same in decor, not in the full new style, but most have the new carpets now and also are spotless and everything works! The staff were also great this time round.
