Copthorne Hotel

We have again stayed at this excellent hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff. We booked direct by email with the hotel and yet again received really friendly, helpful and efficient service from David Crompton, one of their Reservations Agents. A good location and easy parking once, if you don't know the area, you circumnavigate the Culverhouse Cross roundabout . Hotel entrance area is pleasant and staff are obliging. There was a mix up with my booking as they booked me in thinking I was someone else and gave me a standard room. When I said I had a Club called a 'Connoisseur' room booking this was quickly changed. I had noticed the hotel offered a theatre evening with dinner included. Our break only cost £59 for a 3 course dinner, show and B&B. We had stayed at another hotel on the Friday night at £92 in the centre of Cardiff to go to a concert, but this hotel was somewhat better. The hotel is a little way out of Cardiff and therefore is not so handy if you are choosing the venue with Cardiff City Centre in mind. The room was extremely nice with a very large bed. Lucky enough to stay on the first floor in a larger room all the way at the back of the hall. Privacy was great. traditinal dark wood and richer jewel tone decor. Ran into some very obnoxious and drunk rugby fans in the lobby who luckily did not stay around too long. Internet service was over priced, I think at 4 pound for 15 minutes. We stayed at this hotel with a group of friends for our annual men go golfing, women go shopping weekend! The hotel itself is very good with a large sized bar and very well staffed. By the time we were on our third round the barman knew what everyone was drinking (not sure if that's a good sign or not!). Check-in was prompt and easy, although one of our group had to wait longer than expected for their room to be cleaned. Each year I book a Copthorne hotel somewhere for a weekend Christmas shopping. As I book in advance I got the rooms for £59.00 a night, room only which is a bargain (rack rate is around £250). Checked in at 5pm on a Friday night and was dealt with promptly by a very cheery Receptionist. We booked the hotel as we were staying with friends locally and they had recommened it. The staff were very polite and the reception area was nice. The drinks in the bar were expensive but you expect that in a hotel and the wine was nice. The bar area itself wasnt very well designed with pillars in weird places and not really enough seating but it was not full so we sat overlooking the lake but couldnt really see much as it was dark. Just back after a one night stay - last time we were there was January of this year. This time we had upgraded to a junior suite and it was very impressive. Our first point of contact was a lovely Polish girl at reception who couldnt have been more welcoming and pleasant. She chatted to us with ease and it was a great start to our stay. for a group of 16 friends for two nights. Friday night we attended the dinner and theatre show which everyone enjoyed and Saturday night we dined in the restaurant. Breakfast choice was good quality and plentiful. Standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel was good - except for the windows which were very dirty. Try to get a room overlooking the lake rather than the car park.

Quick overnight stay before flying out from Cardiff Airport. All was great. Location ideal. Bedroom good. Food excellent. Service good. Will return.
