Angel Hotel

I had a comfortable and clean room on the third floor. The breakfast was a good average. Reception staff were efficient rather than friendly. I would probably not stay here again because the car park is small, as are the individual parking spaces. I also resent having to pay to park in a hotel car park when I am staying in the hotel.

I booked the stay online and thought I would enter into what seems to be a 'room lottery' from past reviews and I must say the stay at the hotel was pretty much flawless. The grand entrance made me realise I had got something of a bargain internet rate. We checked in, no queues and no fuss and were told of the 24hr bar !!!! Our room was 102 facing the castle. I've given this place an above average rating as I thought it was good value for what you pay. It's opposite the bus station and very central, and considering it's location the rooms were very quiet. Staff were happy, friendly, fun people which makes a change. Not really much to say about reception, it's small and simple. Be aware you need to buzz to actually get up into the hotel. Rooms are funky, practical and clean. Basically, the whole vibe is funky, practical clean and good value for money. Great place for party people.

While the lobby and bar very nice, and when we were there full of rugby fans having a drink pre and post match, the service by some of the staff and the rooms let it down. We have just returned from a short stay in the Angel Hotel in Cardiff. With its excellent location in the city and previous bad reports, we were pleased that from the first steps into the hotel, we were looked after in an excellent way with all the staff being polite and helpful. It's a bit of a mystery how this well known old hotel gets 4 stars. My room was small, the TV did not work, it needed 3 requests to get one that did, the room internet connection did not work either. The door had been broken into at some point and poorly repaired. I had an expensive coffee in the lounge which had milk but no coffee in the ingredients. The Angel Hotel in Cardiff is excellent. With all the new shiney hotels that have appeared in Cardiff over the last twenty years the Angel hotel is still one of the best. It's a solid reliable hotel. The room was situated on the second floor over looking Cardiff Castle. The noise levels from the main road can hardly be heard through the double/triple glazing. We had a pleasant enough stay at the Angel, but the hotel doesn't really represent value for money, as there are other better quality hotels in Cardiff for the same price. The majority of the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful but the staff who checked us in did not advise us that the city centre roads would be closed for the Cardiff marathon on the day we were checking out. I was booked to stay at the Angel for a short business trip to Cardiff and when I checked the reviews here jsut before setting off, I was pretty concerned about what I was going to find. My weekend stay started badly when we turned up at check in time, having booked a lunch time meal at that time. Our room wasn't ready for another 45 minutes, meaning we missed lunch. Staff were quite rude, and seemed overworked, as there were always large queues at check in. Hotel website had suggested the hotel had been refurbished, but not all of it has.
