We booked this hotel for the first night of our honeymoon. the cost was £240 for the one night. Staying here did not ruin our trip, but we were not treated as we would expect from even a one star hotel, manners from the staff would have been nice! If the only charged £40 we would still think twice about returning, deeply disappointing on what should have been our big day. If we'd misbehaved we could have understood, as it is a big thumbs down.

With a son at university we are regular visitors to this area and our usual place was fully booked so we gave this one a try. Won't go back though!
Receptionist seemed confused over where our room was on arrival. We came down to find the bar and she told us where it was, but the barman was nowhere to be seen.
Eventually I went back to reception and found him talking to the receptionist.
After our drink we were looking at the tourist info in reception just before 11pm when the two staff on duty put the lights out, slammed the door and left - no goodnight or anything so, standing in the now dimly lit reception area we took the less than subtle hint and went upstairs.
I rang both room service and reception to order my breakfast in my room but no reply so I had to go searching for a staff member and eventually found the barman who was helpful and took my order.
Got in the shower and found we only had one bath and one hand towel for 2 people. Wasn't getting dressed again so we had to manage.
Room was spacious, bed comfy and water hot with the bathroom well equipped. Everything was very clean.
Breakfast came on time and the towels too, when I asked next morning.
However, don't know what was above our room but there were creaking floorboards from dawn until we left so I was exhausted and ready for some sleep when we left.
The housekeeping staff were noisy and there was no 'do not disturb sign' to leave outside our room.
Didn't try the pool as I was too tired after being woken so early.
A disappointing stay - For their star rating and price they need to go on a customer care course!

I stay here occasionally when working in the area. The staff are always friendly and polite and the rooms are large, clean and comfortable, big fluffy towels and king size bed. However service is slow, it took ages for the receptionist to answer the phone, a long time for the waiter to take my breakfast order in spite of the fact that there were only a few diners present and the evening meal in the resturant was of very poor quality and seriously over priced. A plate of blad, overcooked pasta (my companion had shoulder of lamb) and a mediocre dessert shared between the two of us cost £50! an outrageous sum for poor food. Whilst I would definately return, I won't eat in the resturant again.
