Fabulous setting
from snoopbunny
We had the four poster room with the river view. The room was lovely and the view spectacular. This view was enhanced as we had a lovely balcony to sit on. The room was very clean and well furnished. The mattress was a little uncomfortable. The bathroom was clean and had a spa bath. It was a little let down by the cheap sink and basin, but yet a gain a view of the river and that all important opening window. The towels were huge! The food was excellent on the friday evening as we ate in, the breakfast was also very delicious. It was not quite so good on the sunday morning. We were kept awake to the small hours by a rowdy group of non residents who had come to eat in the restaurant. That did spoil our stay. The staff were helpful and polite. The garden was a mess and needed a good weed. I was a bit shocked when we arrived to see the flower beds outside the hotel full of weeds. The lawns were all nicely mown though. The metal garden furniture needed a serious clean, they were very dirty and not very appetising. The bar was very expensive but that is to be expected. I do recommend a meal at the Ty-Gwn restaurant in the village. Excellent food but make sure you are wearing lose clothing!

Very friendly staff and a nice evening meal
Great food, service & location
from Com4tzone
We stayed for one night between Christmas and New Year. This was our first overnight stay at the hotel although we have eaten here on several occasions. The food and service was as excellent as always. We were particularly impressed with the gentleman who greeted us at reception as he was warm, welcoming informative & friendly. We had booked a double, four poster room which was warm & spacious but the bathroom was looking a little tired and the whirlpool bath although effective was so noisy that we had to turn it off. The main door to the bedroom was ill fitting and the light from the landing shone through all night which was annoying. We had paid top price for the room and although we didn't expect a room with a view it would have been nice. The biggest dissapointment was that at no time during booking or checking in did anyone mention that this was a smoking room and the first thing I noticed was the very heavy smell of Tobacco which permeated everything in the room, so much so that all of our clothes and suitcases smelt of it on returning home. Despite this we enjoyed our visit, but would probably not return to stay overnight at the rate we paid and definitely not in a smoking room, but would return to eat as the food and service was good.
Great Hotel

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. We booked a superior room on a low season special offer for £130 per room which included dinner, bed and breakfast. The view from our room was amazing, next to the river and we had a very large balcony area with seating which overlooked the River Conwy. The food was excellent, each night we had a 3 course meal. The portions were huge, so big we couldn't fit dessert in! The breakfast was great, there was a choice of a traditional Welsh cooked breakfast or a continental breakfast or even kippers. There was also a large choice of fruit and breakfast cereals. The bar in the hotel had a huge log fire and was very welcoming. The hotel itself is situated a short walk from Betws y Coed centre which has a number of pubs and cafes and restaurants and plenty of shops.
A pleasurable stay

I have just stayed in this hotel with my partner, celebrating his 50th birthday with 2 nights in Wales and climbing Snowdon. I chose this hotel because in the main it had good reviews and we were not disappointed. Our room was furnished in a very traditional way with older style furniture but it was very clean as was the bathroom. The 4 poster bed although not comfortable in appearance actually was very comfortable!! The food in the restaurant was nice and the service was very good. The location is great, next to the river and a short walk to the village. No money was handed over either for food or drinks until we checked out which made life easy. A good choice if looking for a nice reasonable quality hotel in the area.
Wonderful Location

Just returned from a three day stay at this hotel. The location at the edge of the town is wonderful, set back from the road with a river running next to it, open fields and surronding woodland. It is in a very quiet location. We stayed in a superior room which had a bedroom with tv, large wardrobes and chest of drawers, off the bedroom was a reading area with another TV, settee and writing desk. The bathroom was large and had recently been refurbished. We stayed on a B & B basis and ate in the restuarant one evening. The food was of a high standard. We also went to the Ty Gwyn hotel on the opposite side of the river one night for a meal, we both thought it was won of the best meals we had ever eaten. The staff at Craig-y-Dderwen work extremely hard, and offer excellent service. We do wonder if the staff are sometimes stretched too much, as there is a lot of multi tasking done. We would certainly return to this hotel.
a Fantastic Find!! a Gem of a Hotel!

From the moment we arrived the service was excellent! and continued to be excellent throughout our stay! the room had a fantastic view over the river and was spotless and spacious. The bar and restaurant area are cosy, warm and inviting. The food was some of the finest i have tasted, for three consecutive nights using three different chefs! now thats consistency! and walkers are truly welcome like it says on the door, not a bat of an eyelid as we trudged in with crampons, ice axe and rucksacks! i cant recommend this hotel highly enough, go there and enjoy, book early get a good view its worth it!
terrible view
from EssexYvonne
The grounds were beautiful but it was wet and misty so unable to explore. We booked a romantic break at £195 per person per night, Room was o.k, spa bath tiny, but rest of bathroom spacious and clean. Major problem was the view, six feet away a block wall was being built and a car park was to the rear of the wall, no romantic views and we had to keep the curtains shut our whole stay as there were men working on the wall, made the room very gloomy. Food in the restaurant was excellent as was breakfast.
As good as it gets in Betws-y-Cloed

Decent 3* hotel in a great setting. We turned up with no booking, and visited each hotel in the town - this was easily the most tranquil and was away from the humdrum of the main road that blights many of the other properties. Staff were slow at times, but always friendly. The food in both the Bistrot and the main restaurant was comfortably 3* and was good value. There are no facilities to speak of, but the river and gardens are very pleasant indeed. The room was on the small side but adequate for a walking break - high standard of housekeeping. The only major gripe was the piped music, but if saxophone renditions of "love lift us up where we belong" are your bag, then this is heaven! Recommended.
Quiet and fantastic setting

This is a rather traditional style hotel in a lovely setting away from the main traffic of Betws-y-coed. We stayed in one of the superior rooms having been shown around a few by a helpful member of staff before making our choice. At £50 per head it was expensive but the view from the window made it all worth while. Best I've ever seen from a hotel. Although the room was very nice, the bathroom wasn't great. The hotel has an outside terrace where residents can eat overlooking the river, and some residents ate breakfast there. Bar food average (also provides dinner) but breakfast excellent. Lots of parking. There is a rather dated feel to the main reception area and lounge - like going back in time - but a modern bar. Its very tightly run in terms of times eg. must book early for dinner, no breakfast (or entry to the room!) before 8.30am etc but there was something comforting about the place that we liked very much and the service was great.
You will find the lcation of this hotel difficult to beat. Fantastic views of the river and scenic backdrop from bedrooms and restaurant with wonderful land for walks and extremely peaceful.Set off the road so it was very quiet, with plenty of car parking. Very helpful and... more
