I stayed here for the second time in March and it was just as wonderful as the last time! This hotel is in a perfect setting in Windermere - the views are breath taking. Rooms are available with a Lake View which I think I will have to treat myself to next time! The... more

The best hotel I've stayed in
If you are looking for excellent service, the most fantastic food [includes locally sourced and a strong vegetarian menu], the best cheese board ever, an extensive and thoughtful wine list, smart and comfortable rooms [no chintz!], fluffy large towels and even a teddy bear then look no further than the Linthwaite House Hotel. OK, I'm biased my husband and I got engaged and then married there so I'll admit that I have a soft spot for the house. It is truly so laid back I defy you not to relax into the sofa and feel really at home. It is top end in terms of price but worth ever penny.
The best hotel in the Lakes
We have been visiting the Linthwaite House Hotel for many years now. It is where we renew our batteries! But the Linthwaite can provide so much to so many. The food is the best we have eaten in any hotel (and we have stayed in some of the best - UK and worldwide). The accommodation is comfortable luxury. The staff are quite simply wonderful - they really do want you to enjoy your stay and fully understand the meaning of professionally friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, anytime of the year for any occassion - or non occassion!
Deserves to be the best
We stayed at the Linthwaite for 2 nights in December and what a fabulous hotel this is. It is rated as the best on Tripadvisor and fully deserves this rating. The hotel is very charming and set in lovely grounds with it's own tarn to walk around. The hotel is very cosy inside and feels very homely especially when the fires are lit.The staff at the hotel look after you all the time and are very efficient. The food in the restaurant is as good as you will get in any top class restaurant anywhere. Even though it costs £44 a head for the evening meal it is worth every penny and is no more than you would pay in a top class restaurant. The breakfast was also excellent. The room was on the small side but very well fitted out and the bathroom was very modern. We cannot fault this hotel in any way and would recommend it very highly to anyone staying in this area.
A little gem
We had a most enjoyable stay at the hotel this weekend. We booked one of the Deluxe rooms and it was certainly large enough for our needs. The bathroom was a bit basic but all right on the whole. I have to say that the staff were wonderful, polite and knowledgeable. The rate we booked (direct with the hotel and very competitive) included the dinner, B&B, Vat and service. The meal was certainly of a very high standard but not worth £44 per head it has to be said. We went to the Drunken Duck for lunch and this was wonderful as usual. Overall we would stay here again but I would baulk at paying anything like the full tariff.
Peace tranquility and fine food
A lovely place to stay away from it all. Wonderful food and a terrific wine list. Our room was small but well-appointed. In the area don't miss Blackwell the Arts & Crafts House down the road.
A Real Gem
The Linthwaite really is a hidden gem.......... Great food and service, nice wine list and real old world charm in a great setting, the Linthwaite consistently delivers on all fronts. Only downside is smaller than average rooms (albeit well appointed), but its a small gripe in an otherwise great experience. Staff are great and the owner puts in regular appearances.
Lovely Luxurious Linthwaite
We have recently returned from the lovely, luxurioos Linthwaite Hotel where we celebrated our Ruby wedding anniversary. We could not have picked a better hotel, it was superb, every thing was 1st class, with great attetion to detail from the desk and bar staff through to the excellant chef who produced some gastronomic delights. We will definitly return and long before our Golden wedding anniversary. May I take this chance to thank Tripadvisor and their fellow subscribers without whom we may have missed this wonderful, celebratory memory.
You won't be disappointed!
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked through the door we felt totally relaxed. Log fires and 'Country Living' type decor. The food is the best I have ever had. I have to disagree with previous reviews that say £44 expensive - canapes, soup, starter, main course, dessert, petit fours and coffee of those standards is not expensive. We had a deluxe room (R17-views of garden) with 6ft bed (very comfortable). We liked the extra touches eg. cd player in the room, fresh bottle of water on bedside table daily, 'Molton Brown' toiletries, bed turned down at night, fresh orchid in the room. The staff are not robotic (earlier review). You could have a 'bit of banter' with the staff if you wanted to - but not everyone likes to so they weren't 'in your face' the whole time. The view from the tarn down to Lake Windermere is breathtaking. We booked direct and got the third night B&B complimentary- one of the special offers - it wouldn't have been cheaper through Late Rooms. All in all we had a fantastic time and hope to go back soon. My only one regret is that the waistband on my trousers is much tighter since my visit-but it was worth every mouthful!
Luxurious "unstuffy" comfort
We stayed at the Linthwaite for 3 nights after reading reviews of the hotel on the web. We had a standard room on the ground floor which was very comfortable and offered every convenience you would require plus an excellent en suite with a very efficient shower. We did not have a view from this particular room (there were no other rooms available) This did not bother us too much as we only had to walk into the conservatory for a magnificent view of the lake. The surrounding gardens and ground are very well laid out and lovely to walk around. The staff are extremely pleasant and very helpful. The food was just delicious and beautifully presented. I have a particular problem as I have to follow a gluten free diet, this presented no problem to the chef who advised me as to what I could choose from the varied menu. Although it is quite expensive we felt that this hotel is one that rates highly on our list of places we would like to return to.
Great service, stunning views, worth the money
Booked 2 nights via Laterooms (significantly cheaper than booking direct), also checked the reviews on this site before booking and they were all positive. We were so pleased we ending up staying an extra night. The hotel lived upto expectations, it is has a stunning location with great views of Windermere. The grounds of the hotel themselves are fantastic. The room was excellent, well maintained and well serviced by the staff. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and it is clear that the owner is aiming at providing a very high standard of service. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very obliging with regard to special requests. I would agree with the last reviewer that the price of the evening meal is somewhat excessive, ok it is a 5 course meal, but £44 each is a bit over the top. You can have a two course for £25 but that is not offered you have to ask. Subsequent evenings we went to the Drunken Duck Inn for meals near Ambleside, superb food and a more reasonable price. All the guests we met and spoke to were friendly and seemed to also enjoy the hotel. We left our comments at the hotel and the owner emailed to say thank you. If it was not for the price of the evening meal I would have given the hotel 5 stars.
