3 star hotel which is very average. Owned by Best Western - should be Best Mediocre. Our room was on the ground floor. Good size with double bed. BUT dodgy TV which worked when it felt like, cracked sink, No bath - only shower cubicle which door had to be slammed to close... more

Excellent
First of all the leisure facilities at this hotel are been refurbished through March and April and maybe into May so if you are wanting to use the gym or pool avoid these months or check prior to booking. Just returned from a weeks stay at the Castle Green Hotel on a course. Bad points - Only the one, you get free wi-fi internet access in your room, recpetion etc. I could not get a connection to the wi-fi in my room nor could some of my colleagues. The connection in recpetion was fine, it obviously just depends on which room you... more
Peaceful and relaxing in the Lakes
Have just returned from a marvelous weekend with my wife in the Lake District. We chose the Castle Green, after having read a lot of good reviews and we always prefer to stay in family run hotels. On arrival, we were checked in quickly and the room given overlooked the front gardens (recommend you ask for this) The rooms were spotless and had all the things you need! tv, coffee machine and a great power shower!! We had 3 nights there and ate in Kendal once, the hotel the 2nd night ( food was excellent and better priced than... more
Overrated and expensive. Should be Mediocre Western Castle Green
Average hotel but we had a few problems which would discourage us from staying again. Ongoing work at hotel was a noisy and the work vans/vehicles parked where they liked - including disabled/'difficult to use stairs' parking spaces. Staff did nothing to discourage this and customers with mobility problems had no option than to be dropped off at the door and the car had to be parked elsewhere. Had to park in overspill car park which was fair hike from the hotel - very steep stairs. Our room backed onto the service area/poor view so bit noisy... more
Excellent breakfast
We have just returned from a weekend in the lake district. the hotel was excellent! Upon arrival, our room was sorted very quickly with no problems. The room was clean and had all the amenities you want such as tea/coffee/hot chocolate, iron and trouser press and was very quiet and peaceful so we had a good nights sleep. We travelled to the town centre on the saturday evening for something to eat which was around 5 minutes by car but was very easy to find. when we returned later on in the evening, the pianist (i didn't get his... more
Relaxing and pretty
Stayed at the Castle Green in November 07, overnight as a relaxing birthday getaway for my partner. On both checking in and out, staff were polite, friendly and welcoming. We used the leisure facilities down stairs (gym/pool) which where clean and pleasant. In the evening we dined at the pub onsite and had a lovely meal and reasonably priced. The lady at reception booked this for us, after us explaining we wanted somewhere relaxed and informal. The hotels restaurant sounds lovely, but more upmarket, formal and... more
Pleasant stay
My husband and I arrived in the worse weather ever- to find the car park flooded (no fault of the hotel) but there was a wedding going on so we had to park in the flooded bit!! Nit picking I know but running up flights of stairs with bags in the rain is a bit wearisome! Bear in mind there is a "wee walk" to the hotel from the carpark! Anyway, to the hotel.....it was very clean and comfortable. We had a warm room with coffee making facilities, decent TV channels and good room service menu. The remote on the TV worked sporadically but... more
Picturesque Hotel
Upon arriving you are greeted by wonderful views from the front of the landscaped hotel. The reception is modern and airy and we were checked into our rooms pretty quickly and easily. No problems with the room, it was clean and fresh and contained all the amenities you could want; iron, trouser press, tea and coffee facilities etc. My room was at the rear so there weren't any views to speak of, which I personally wasn't worried about as I was only there for the one night, but it would be frustrating if you were there for a week.<br... more
nice place, beautiful location
We stayed here as our base for exploring the Lake District. A central location might have been better for exploring but we also were flying out of Manchester so it was a good compromise. We were about an hour and a half from the Manchester airport and 20 minutes from Windermere and 45 minutes from Keswick. We paid $205 a night for 2 including breakfast. The hotel is a typically modern hotel and while lacking the charm of an old inn or B&B it's nice to have reliable plumbing and HVAC. We found that the staff here was very nice... more
Nice hotel but a lot of small problems
Stayed here recently on a very last minute booking so we were not too fussed about where we stayed. Upon arrival you are presented with a beautiful setting with a very attractive bar and resatuarant area, unfortunately we encountered several problems. (Appologies in advance if it seems I'm picking up on very minor things, I have worked in the hotel industry for several years now so have got used to noticing the little things that can make or break a stay) Firstly, when we checked in we were told there had been a problem with our... more
Very Good
Out of town but in a very nice location with good views. The pub in the grounds a real bonus. Very well trained staff. Clearly cared for and a most pleasant change - well worth the diversion off the motorway.
