My daughter, triplet grandchildren aged 11 and I spent 3 nights in the Borrowdale Suite which had unbelievably spectacular views of the lake and mountains both from the sitting room and balcony. The suite was very generously furnished with plenty of storage and accessible plug points. Two of the single beds were uncomfortable and sloping. The other and double were fine. The apacious bathroom was a joy to use and well ventilated and 5 consecutive showers did not produce any condensation or flooding as in some 5 star Hotels)
The staff on the whole were friendly and helpful but being from Europe were clueless about local amenities etc. They spoke very acceptable English. Breakfast was varied and excellent. The dinner was good, but the meat sometimes tough. The landing stage for boats to Keswick and kayaking, canoeing and boating was only 5 mins away.Leisure facilities were good.

  • Advice: An interesting town easily accessible by boat and bus.
  • Activities: Ate in the Hotel. Good bar meals. Good walking. Pencil Museum
  • Good For: City Breaks

Simply Appalling!
That said if you live in a nursing home the decor, environment and odour will be perfect and to your satisfaction.
The staff are all eastern European and struggle with even basic English. with the exception of one porter who was clearly still under contract from before Poland became a member of the EU. the whole Leisure and spa facility was an absolute joke. and check your bill....closly they tried to over charge by more than £160! and if you ask for anything and i mean anything they will attempt to charge you for it even if it be a couple of sandwiches for friends £30! or maybe some champagne flutes to drink your own champagne £20 corkage they tried to charge two of our party for the same bottle! (god loves a trier... eh!) don't expect any give in the bar staff either they are equally switched on. £3.60 for a pint of lemonade with a splash of larger!
This place is a poor Third to a second rate Blackpool B&B.

What a fabulous hotel! My boyfriend...

Jan 2007, Ms Guida Rufino

What a fabulous hotel! My boyfriend and I stayed there for just two nights between Xmas and New Year and it was just the break we needed after the hectic social whirl of Xmas.
Due to it being the festive season, they only allowed you to stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast setting but that was fine as the food was out of this world.
We had a 4 course dinner both nights, served in a lovely dining room with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Wine was paid additionally but they had a very wide selection ranging from reasonable prices to really quite extravagant.
Breakfast was also really good and we splashed out and had a cooked breakfast delivered to our room one morning which was well worth the expense.
Around 7pm they serve canapes and had a pianist in the lounge, a perfect time for pre dinner cocktails. All the lounge and bar areas had fires which were lovely when watching the wild Lakes weather outside.
The room was very nice and clean, though a little on the small side. I think the room we had was probably their cheapest though and I'm pretty sure the rooms with views and suites are much bigger.
The bathroom was nice though the fan was extremely loud and made a peaceful soak in the bath a little tricky.
The surrounding countryside is I'm sure well known to most people and the hotel boasts its very own waterfall in the grounds. We didn't venture out much though as it was quite cold and wet!
There is a health spa with pool and sauna, both of which were a little small but perfectly nice. A jacuzzi would have been nice.
All in all a great place to stay. A little pricey but you get what you pay for and it was worth every penny. Definitely recommend this place, especially to foodies.
