Famous Wild Boar Hotel

My Wife and I have stayed at the FWB twice previously with much enjoyment, so much so that we booked 4 rooms for my wifes birthday in November 'to pull the family together'. The whole experience was superb!!.
This hotel is off the beaten track - it is an escape, an experience and a beautiful olde worlde inn / hotel. The rooms are clean - a bit quirky 3 star is fair - standards are good and the food is excellent not cheap but you pay for the skill of the chefs and the experience and expectation is delivered. Drinks are pricey, but put a few quid away just to complete the experience and don't complain.
Staff are great and friendly - we are going back this weekend!!!!!
This is the place if you want to relax - forget about work for a while and just chill out - if you need to entertained forget it - go to Bowness or Ambleside. Here you can just unwind and plan your break - there are great grounds up behind the hotel and these offer really enjoyable, if not strenuous walking full of local interest and wildlife.
We seriously do recommend this hotel. It is an older building - not everything is modern - if you want perfection in terms of everything matching, 5 star decor etc forget it!. If you want traditional surroundings a warm smoky log fire, comfy longes and the most unusual gents public loos ever!!! - give it a try!
We recommend and we have stayed all over the world - service values and inherent quality always outweigh 'pretention', 'excessive pricing' and 'plasticity' in our opinion and the FWB is value for money, an experience in tradition and a pleasant plac to escape to......in our opinion of course!!!!!

As a family of 4 with 2 young children we found the Wild Boar in Windermere very suitable for our stay. The family room was large with great views and was very quiet. There was a huge superking size bed and 2 sofa beds with a nice modern bathroom. The lounge and bar areas were very country styled and immaculate with the most amazing bathrooms near reception we've ever seen - check them out! Breakfasts were lovely and the staff always extremely helpful. Evening meals and drinks were pricey so eat in the town the next night. We'd definitely stay there again.
