Travel Tavern with delusions
I booked a twin room to stay here the night with my mum the night before a family wedding in Lancaster. Even with the internet discount, the £109 room only rate wasn't exactly bargain basement, but the photographs on the website looked promising, with fresh new decor, and much mention of the fabulous Sandpiper Spa. (Entire response on phoning to make pre-wedding appointments: 'We're full.' End of conversation.) When we checked in, our room was a quite amazing distance from the reception, up several small flights of stairs - no lift to the... more
Unfortunately not much choice in this area!
Stayed at this hotel for one night only (first visit) Reception area very nice and relaxed atmosphere, check in and staff very good. Rooms not so good, smelt of shack & vac or something to disguise odor (horrible) decor old fashioned, everything showing signs of ware. This place needs major upgrade but has no competitors in area. (please let me know if you know of a better hotel in area) This hotel is badly let down by the complete lack of any quality fitting or furnishing, worn out carpets and bedding.... more
Superb Rooms
My wife and I stayed at the Lancaster House for the third time. Booked a two night package of a luxury suite, bed and breakfast. Exellent value for money. The new suites are beautiful. Huge rooms, finished to very high standard. Lovely surroundings. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
A good waypoint with a great pool
I've stayed at the hotel twice, both times in transit from Manchester to the Lakes. It's a nice hotel and a good stopping point midway between the two off the highway. The amenities, in general, are typical of the middle-of-the-road hotels: comfortable and clean, but generic and ordinary. THe rooms are spacious and well-appointed, but can sometimes pick up a lot of light from the college next door when they are playing on the fields. They get student groups through the bar and restaurant, so they may not be as quiet as you would... more
Warning
Just a warning about this hotel. If you book through their website there is absolutely no cancellation period at all. I tried to cancel my booking quite a few weeks before my stay via e-mail and received absolutely no response from them. I then telephoned and was told they had not received my e-mails (strange how my booking was received though) and that I would lose the full amount. Sorry but I just don't think this policy is fair or representative of a good hotel.
Reasonable hotel but a trek from Lancaster
Stayed for two days on business. My client is a telecoms business based in the centre of Lancaster and I was booked in here by my secretary believing it to be in Lancaster. It's not. It's about three miles outside the centre and in fact is on the University site. All well and good if you're on University business but not that handy for the City. The place itself is an upmarket Alan Partidge "travel tavern" with a very basic public bar and reasonable restaurant. The leisure centre is impressive but the rest of the hotel can best be described... more
Book a Suite!
We stayed here between Christmas and New Year 2005. The reception staff were very welcoming and the hotel was well maintained. There are security gates and ample parking. We had booked a suite and although fairly expensive, we felt it was money well spent as the rooms are excellent. This hotel is within easy reach of the Lake District (40 min drive to Windermere) and 5 mins drive to Lancaster. The location of the hotel itself is slightly isolated, but the fabulous leisure facilities make up for that - swimming pool, sauna, steam room and... more
Nice but pricey.
I've stayed at the Lancaster House Hotel quite a few times and each time I stay it seems to get progressively worse in some way. Recently I stayed and I believed I was paying for bed and breakfast, yet in the morning at breakfast I was asked for my room number and automatically gave it. I was then charged £15.00 for the ONE cup of tea and ONE slice of toast. This is not acceptable. One thing I always did love about the hotel was the afternoon teas. Until they started to give sugar sticks to dissolve in lukewarm teas instead of... more
A lovely hotel
This hotel is one of the nicest hotels i've ever stayed in! We found the staff very friendly and helpful, always a bonus. The hotel itself has a real cosy feel to it, and it very welcoming. Our room was really clean, spacious and decorated well. The breakfast was lovely and not too expensive for what we got. Well worth its 4 star rating!
ruined trip
The Lancaster House Hotel represents a comfortable, clean, out of town hotel definately in the mid four star range. The staff are friendly and polite and the food is good for that range of Hotel. Guests should be aware that if the Hotel is booked through an agent it is best to phone the Hotel well in advance to ensure that the booking has been received. Should there be a problem in relation to an unrecieved booking the results can be dissasterous. Guests may be offered another Best Western Hotel of three star standard a considerable... more
