Westmorland Hotel

Stayed for an overnight stop travelling to Scotland. We had an Executive double, room was very comfortable and clean with lovely views of the countryside. Food was excellent, room service very efficient. Buffet breakfast was fabulous with lovely views of open countryside from our table. Staff were very polite & helpfull. We will definately stay at the Westmorland again.

I enjoyed my stay at the Westmorland and this is, largely, a positive review. But what would a review be if it didn't comment on negative aspects as well? I mean the rural beauty that surrounds the Westmorland Hotel means that this Hotel should be given a handicap in terms of ratings - to say that the view, from even the less well placed rooms, is breathtaking is to put the state of affairs very mildly! We booked the Westmoland Hotel after much research on Tripadvisor. We were really pleased with our choice as the hotel is conveniently placed and is cheaper than staying within one of the Lake District tourist towns. The hotel lobby may need a slight refurbishment but the hotel is modern enough and the service was impeccable. The lobby has a cosy seating area and the hotel restaurant was commendable. An excellent hotel for a one-night stop. Although accessed via the motorway services area, and therefore very convenient, this is most definitely not a services hotel. In fact once at the hotel the services area is not even visible. The reception area and restaurant has beautiful views on to open countryside which were shared by our bedroom. This, though extremely spacious and comfortable for two adults and a child, was very disappointing in terms of decor. My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights as part of a weeks break in the lakes and Dumfries and Galloway. Had seen the hotel on many occasions from nearby (Tebay) service station on M6 and had always been attracted by appearance and location. After many hours of internet research, I decided that I needed to visit The lakes for a few days. The next challenge, as always was the accomodation but thankfully Tripadvisor cam up with many good reviews and recommendations. This is an excellent hotel to stop over if you are travelling on the M6. It is 2 minutes from the Motorway, but you would not know it. Large modern rooms and very quiet. The staff were very friendly and I ordered room service which came in 10 minutes. Very good value for a quality hotel.

This was a suprising hotel at the back of motorway services, but you can,t see or hear the traffic. The hotel is very tastefully furbished with nice spacious rooms which were very clean. The service was good and the restaurant was excellent although it was nouveau cuisine so the portions were tiny and pretty expensive. This hotel is ideal as a stop over on route somewhere else. There is no where to walk to from the hotel so if you want a drink, you are a captive audience, and therefore I would suggest one night stays only. On... more

We stayed overnight on our way down to Manchester to visit daughter... the room was large, with sofa and two wing chairs: a bargain on the net... dinner scrummy and not particularly expensive at around £20 .... service exemplary.... breakfast a repeat of dinner (no - not the fillet steak again; the experience). O.K. - the bathroom's a bit small and the shower nothing special, but at the price.... Come off at J.38, Tebay and the hotel sits above the services.

Not only is this our favourite stop over place when travelling south, it is also our favourite choice when, during the off-season for holiday makers, we take up this hotel on their "special weekend offers", the rooms are comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is excellent and unlike so many other hotels, they do welcome pets which I believe is something which adds to the comfortable homey feeling about the place.
