Our stay was memorable. The accommodation was more than comfortable, we had a regular double room. It was emmaculately clean. We chose to eat both nights in the Fisherman's bar, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. There was a good selection of food to choose... more

Where do I start, this hotel is a gem in the Lakes, can’t fault anything about it. We stayed for 2 nights in May 2006, On are first wedding anniversary. The staff were excellent (check out David in the bar downstairs) he makes you feel at home and is a real character and... more

Lovely hotel that is let down by the food
This was my second time to stay here so I was looking forward to a return visit, the hotel is situated in a great spot with lovely views. The reception area is small but you get a very friendly welcome, we had booked two executive rooms, it is not a modern place but the rooms are decorated in keeping with the style of the hotel and they were spotless, nice big rooms with a lovely view over the river. Bathrooms were really clean with lovely toiletries, a well stocked mini bar and a tv with a built in DVD player. All of the staff are very pleasent and the fishermans bar does good bar food however the standard of food in the restaurant has declined dramatically since our original vist. The menus is promising enough but it doesn't deliver, poor presentation, overcooked meat and veg that had been cooked hours before and blasted in the microwave, it was a real dissapointment. The wine list was also very limited. Breakfast was another disappointment, the freshly squeezed orange juice was not! The fruit salad was from tins and it was laid out in a dark corner at the back of the room. As we were on a three night stay package for DB&B this obviously had an effect on how much we enjoyed ourselves. They have a nice health club attached with some lovely beauty rooms, it is in a beautiful place and they have some lovely staff so its a shame they let themselves down on the food, for this reason we would not return.
a big disappointment
We stayed in apartment number 10, which is part of a timeshare programme. We had been promised a five star luxury accommodation and we found ourselves in a 3-star, dirty hotel. The bar and restaurant were dirty and smelled badly; food was mediocre. The water in the pool was very cold, apparently they were trying to save the environment - at the expenses of my children who got ill after spending 20 minutes in the water. Service is simply appalling: on our departure day, at 10.15am (we were supposed to leave at 10am), two men just entered the room using the hotel keys and not bothering knocking, stormed into the room without even greeting us and starting taking things away that they needed for another room. We made it clear that we did not appreciate the intrusion and they did not even apologise. All in all, an awful and disappointing experience - far from the relaxing, pampering week we had been promised.
a well run hotel
we stayed over the xmas period on a package and we were given a room overlooking the river. The room was warm and with wall to wall carpet and thick lined curtains. The bathroom was well maintained and was clean. The food was very good with a good choice and you were not overfilled with vegetables and the service was good.At times the lounge bar was not always staffed and sometimes you had to get someone to serve you,but of course there was always the fishermans bar downstairs. The web site does not really do it justice as you have to see how it has been converted into a hotel. We picked this hotel as a result of viewing other hotel reviews in this price range and this seemed to come out the best.Overall we enjoyed it as it was our first christmas away and we were not disappointed with it.The only critisism we had was that it is a pity the cleaners cannot see above head height as there was a cobweb in our room and dust on the lampshades. All the staff were hard working and were very pleasant especially max the duty manager.Forgot to mention cascades leisure centre, use it while you are there it is excellent.
fantastic and would recommend
we stayed in a standard room (127) for the weekend and could not have asked for better in the room itself - it was very spacious and comfortable and out of the side window we could see the river. the bathroom could have done with a bit of updating as it was a little shabby, but what you would expect from a standard and the size of the bedroom more than made up for it the sky tv was a great bonus. the health club was fantastic and very clean and the facilities were more than we expected. all of the staff at the hotel were fantastic, and could not do enough for you. we had booked for dinner, B & B. the 3 courses at dinner were fab and we were so full after 2 courses we could only manage ice cream both nights, and the breakfast is very good too. you have a choice cereal and fruit or full english or both..i would definitely recommend this hotel for couples and families and will probably be returning there again. very enjoyable and relaxing weekend.
Nice, But Over Priced
We had a pleasant stay at the Whitewater, although we preferred our stay at the Langdale Hotel & Country Club at the other end of Windermere a couple of years ago, which was also substantially cheaper. We booked a superior room, with a balcony and view across the river. It was nice in the winter but must be even better in the spring and autumn when the trees would look fantastic. The room was spacious and light but our overall impression was that it was rather cheaply done. The coating on the double glazed windows had become hazy with age, the stereo was old and grubby, and the TV stand was balanced on top of a wooden box, to bring it up to viewing height, rather than having a wall bracket fitted. At £144.00 per night we had expected better. The adjoining leisure complex was also disappointing, being much smaller and less luxurious than the one at the Langdale Hotel. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was a good meal, but over priced at fixed £25.50 for three courses. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, but the quality was no better than a bar meal. Part of the problem may have been the lack of atmosphere in the restaurant, as the hotel was very quiet in early March, with only two other tables occupied. Breakfast was also acceptable, but nothing exceptional. Overall we enjoyed our stay but felt disappointed that we had not returned to the Langdale. The hotel is adequate, but we had hoped for something special, which it failed to deliver.
A lovely visit to the Whitewater Hotel
Just returned from a short break at the Whitewater Hotel, Lake District. The hotel is fantastic, especially during the month of December. A lovely warm welcome was received by the hotel. The facilities are excellent; we stayed in a family room. During our stay we were lucky to receive information relating to the nearby steam railway and the times for the Santa Trains - this trip was a lovely way to spend a weekend during December. Hope to visit again soon, without a doubt.
Wedding at the whitewater
We have just got back from our fantastic wedding at the whitewater hotel. I can't praise the place enough, the rooms are fantastic, the views magnificent and we were treated like royalty all weekend. All of our guests stayed for whole the weekend. The hotel provided a barbeque for the friday night, there was loads of food and really good quality too. On the day of the wedding we had drinks on the terrace over looking the river, followed by a wedding breakfast in the restaurant. I was really surprised by the quality of the food, I thought it would be nice but it was fantastic we had a choice of starters and desert and lakeland lamb for main. In the evening we had a disco, the dj was recommended by the hotel and he didn't disappoint. The next day we enjoyed a relaxing day walking in the hills and relaxing in the pool and spa at the hotel. The hotel was fantastic in every way, they helped us book a coach for our guests, find a florist and photographer. The chef even fixed our wedding cake as a few iced flowers got squashed in the transit. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone, the staff are friendly, food superb and location magnificent, ideal for a loved up couple. Oh I've also got to mention that there's a steam train that goes past the hotel, it's really fab!
Beautiful surroundings
We stayed here for 1 night on our way up to Scotland. It isn't actually in Newby Bridge itself but a short drive out. On arrival we were impressed by the surroundings of the hotel with a beautiful view over the lake. The staff were brilliant, really friendly and helpful. Our room was upgraded and was very big with a double bed and two singles plus lots of extras such as a DVD player and CD system. The bathroom was excellent too, very modern and clean. The view from our room overlooked the lake and the hills beyond. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening as we wanted to go out and sample the local pubs. Would recommend The Anglers but beware they stop serving food at 8.30pm. Breakfast at the hotel was good too. We didn't use the spa but it looked really nice. Would recommend this hotel.
Great Room, Great View, Great Hotel
Stayed two nights on honeymoon, and couldnt have asked for a better hotel. Excellent view overlooking the river. Large room with four poster bed, double person spa bath (Superior room booked). Very friendly and helpful staff. Great facilities at the health and leisure club attached to the hotel but unfortunately we didnt have enough time to make full use of them. Our stay at the hotel was worth every penny and it has great access to the south Lakes for a little sightseeing.
Great value
Stayed here for the second time last week and found it even better than before. We got took one of the special offers £95 per night dinner bed and breakfast in a superior room overlooking river and the room was fantastic. Big room with good modern bathroom. The meals/service was good and the health centre top notch. Its a bit out the way but the lake only a few mins walk and the ferry to Bowness/Ambleside only a mile and a half away. Going back.
