Overpriced, poor dining but nice view
from weary_traveller28
A large group of us stayed here for a joint birthday party, all adults with one 3yr old child. Initially impressive, recently refurbished downstairs with comfortable lounges, 2 restaurants and 2 bars/bistro, access to the liesure facilities etc etc. Our room was £158 per night for two twin beds stuck together in a small room, with a lake view admittedly but right on the main road going around the lake. Constant traffic noise plus noise of central heating made staying in it a last resort. Small bath and shower. One of our group had no hot water one morning due to heavy use by other guests. Shortcomings in my opinion of this hotel were due to some inexperienced and unamiable staff, not all of course but enough to sour the stay. Forgotten food orders, late food, over or undercooked, no apologies, no willingness to alter the bill. Gradually the list grew so large that in the end we felt it neccesary to hold a meeting with the general manager. He sorted everything out to be fair, much to their expense. Pity it had to get that far. On the plus side it's on the lake (shame about the road), the spa facilities are good, the lounges and bars are nice, bar staff were great, front desk helpful, bistro staff good, main restaurant let it down.
Wedding Anniversary treat

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. It was fantastic! We paid £132 a night for bed and breakfast for 2 people in a lake view rook, with fantastic spa bath and four poster bed. The room was a bit noisy, as previosuly mentioned but the interior of it more than compensated for that! leisure club was just across an internal tunnel thing from our room, and have to say I thought it was nice. The staff were keen on enforcing the no under 16 year olds without an adult rule, and kicked 3 lads out while we were in there. Bit disappointed that the spa/jacuzzi bit in there was closed off on our second day , but it didnt spoil it for us. The staff are very friendly, restaurant is exceptional, breakfast wonderul and I wouldnt hesitate in going back again or recommending it to anyone. Think I may have been spoiled this time due to the room we had, not sure what it would be like in a room that didnt have the facilities/view etc but would definately splash out again next time.

Stayed at this hotel on the 23rd of Feb for a weekend break and was really impressed with the hotel and the room we were in, which was a 4 poster one with a spa bath and a wonderful view over lake windermere. The food was excellent and the staff were all really nice. I would definately go back again and would recommend it for any ouple that is wanting to have a relaxing stay.
Over priced - How much should you pay for a view?
from starfish2005
£162 a night in a poorly presented room where twin beds are strung together with a sheet and the bathrooms are tired, dated, old and grubby. We expected so much from the web site which promised so much more than we got. We booked a double bed (and got a twin), we expected nice bedlinen and curtains (and got horrid, cheap, uncoordinated, thin, patterned nastiness), we expected a nice bathroom (it was grey, mouldy, chipped, with a drizzle of a shower). To be fair - we talked to the management and were "upgraded" and our room rate was reduced for our first night. I don't think they could have done anything more - the damage had been done. The restaurant is lovely and the evening meal was outstanding. The lobby and downstairs redecoration which is impressive is NOT reflected elsewhere. The pool was full of screaming children - not for us - and the noise impinged on my relaxing beauty treatment (it's not a spa - it's a leisure centre with a treatment room). The view - beautiful - but worth such a mark up??
very relaxing stay.

we have just returned from a very relaxing stay at low wood hotel. We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews on this web site, but on arrival we were met by very pleasant staff who remained friendly and attentive throughout our stay. The hotel in general was elegant with a relaxing atmosphere. The restaurant was out of this world, and very reasonably priced, and I was extremely pleased to find a restaurant that treats children like little people, offering the same high quality food....not a chicken nugget or chip insight....top marks for that. The leisure facilities were good although the shower areas looked a little tired. Our room was clean and pleasant. it overlooked the carpark which meant no noise from the main road (you cant have your cake and eat it!) and I thought the child welcome pack and soft toy in the room was a lovely touch. If I had to find fault, I would say the bath was obviously quite old with areas of chipped enamel and non-slip sticky strips on the bottom, but i am being quite picky here. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definately return in the future.
loved it!

We were really concerned about what awaited us at Low Wood having booked our stay before reading the reviews. However, we arrived after a really long journey (after using sat nav without reading the instructions first!!) to find a really lovely hotel. The staff without exception were fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is very relaxing. The veiws are spectacular and the service we received was outstanding. The hotel is very child friendly, to the extent that when a young family were seated near to us in the restaurant, their daughter's doll was provided with a high chair. The result of their accomodating staff is that everyone is able to relax. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. We stayed in a stylish lakeside view room with a four poster bed. The bathroom was huge and had one of the best whirlpool baths we have ever used. The food in both the restaurant and the bar was very high quality and not expensive. Drinks were of average cost and the bar stocked a large variety of both alcoholic and soft drinks. We would highly reccomend this hotel and will certainly return.
fun packed weekend

I stayed at Low Wood with a group of around 100 people for a work event and had a fab time, we arrived on the friday evening and used the express check in service which meant no queing or waiting around, we were quickly given our keys and set off on what seemed like a million miles to our room. We were in the refurbished part of the hotel with no view which didnt bother us, the room was wonderful, very spacious and comfortable, loved the little added extras too, thought it was great that there was an ice box on every corridor too which meant we could have our own drinks in the room saving us money! On the friday night we had a meal in the lovely restaurant which was lovely and the breakfast there the following morning was equally as good, great selection and the staff were very helpful. The cafe overlooking the lake was a great place for afternoon lunch and the food was very nice. On the Saturday evening we had an organised gala dinner with entertainment and food, we all had a great time and even though we were a rowdy bunch still partying at 6am, the staff were great, the 2 bar men working that night were a great laugh and joined in with the party, couldnt have asked for better service. Overall the perfect venue for a fab weekend away!

Christmas Magic !!!
from Pink_Eeyore
We stayed here 24th-27th December on the Christmas Package and had a fantastic time. After reading some of the previous reviews i was a little dubious of what we would find but I was pleasantly surpised, so much better than i could have ever expected ! Refurbished lounges are all gorgeous as are the dining areas. We had a lake view room which had not been refurbished but was lovely all the same although there was still some traffic noise even over Christmas ! All the staff were very cheery and attentive and made it a very merry christmas indeed !
superb

We visited this hotel nearly 20 years ago, and returned hoping it would be as good as before, but it far exceeded our expectations. We booked to stay in a feature room which are larger than conventional rooms and have a canopied bed and free standing bath. The room was... more
