Low Wood Hotel

We visited this hotel nearly 20 years ago, and returned hoping it would be as good as before, but it far exceeded our expectations.
We booked to stay in a feature room which are larger than conventional rooms and have a canopied bed and free standing bath. The room was beautiful, clean, and very well presented.
The hotel has a leisure centre which includes a sauna and steam room, again everything was very clean and in very good condition.
Dinner was not included in the cost but we made a reservation in the hotel’s restaurant. On this particular weekend they only had a set menu available, costing £30pp for 3 courses and coffee. There was a very good selection of dishes for all courses and the food was outstanding. The wine was not over priced starting at £14.50 a bottle.
We visit hotels quite regular and the staff in this hotel were among the best we have come across, friendly and polite, you felt that nothing would be too much trouble.
The hotel is situated on the banks of Lake Windermere between Windermere and Ambleside, both lovely little towns, from experience I know that they get very busy in the summer months, and parking can be difficult at these times but was fine in January.
Due to the hotels location I would consider a car necessary, unless you are a very keen walker, having said that there is a railway station in Windermere, and the hotels only about 3 1/2 miles away, but there is nothing else in the immediate area of the hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Low Wood, as did our friends; we all intend to return again, hopefully sooner than last time.
