The George Hotel

I really enjoyed my stay here, I have stayed in some of the other hotels in the group and found the George as welcoming as them. It seems to have a tremendous local following and was extremely busy from morning to night. If visiting penrith I would recommend a stay at the George as the rooms and food where both excellent.

Have seen the George from the outside but never stayed before. It was ok - nothing more, but nothing less, to be fair. The rate secured online was cheap enough. But the (standard) room was pretty cramped, and had no sort of view from the window at all. The window would not budge open - and I do like some fresh air in a bedroom! Also, there is no lift in the hotel, so travel light....... You can get a vegetarian breakfast........this was requested by asking for "no meat". We stayed at the George for two nights. On the second night there was a function with DJ. The music was indescribably loud and thundered through our room. When we asked the Manager to do something about it he refused and allowed it to go on until 1.00am. His only suggestion was to move us to another hotel - this at 10.30 at night was hardly an option. We won't be staying there again.

Our party only stayed in the hotel overnight so intial impressions are based on limited time at the hotel. Our room overlooked the main street and was noisy when the midnight revellers were out and about. The room was over the function suite that thankfully was not in use. The room was adequate but by no means spacious. The general decor of the hotel could be described as homely. The service was of a good standard. The staff were brisk and businesslike rather than friendly.
