Derwentwater Hotel

FANTASTIC hotel!! We have just returned from our second stay at this lovely hotel. Both our stays at the Derwentwater were for special occassions - our honeymoon and our first wedding anniversary - and we cannot reccommend this hotel enough. The rooms are beautiful with large, comfortable beds, excellent hopsitality trays and spacious bathrooms with large fluffy towels and a good selection of toiletries. Our children had given us our holiday as a Ruby Wedding present. It was really wonderful in every way . We had marvellous views of the lake and mountains. It was well worth having a Premier Plus room. We had every comfort, from our decanter of sherry with mini cheddars to a welcoming cream tea and water, fresh milk and fresh orange juice in the fridge. Had a three night stay in January 2006 with another couple. Arrived late on a Thursday night but had pre confirmed that we would definately be wanting an evening meal. Also called 30 mins before we arrived and were told they were expecting us for evening meal. Arrived at arranged time only to be told they had prepared a cold platter for us. Apparently the front desk hadnt communicated with the kitchen. We are a couple of adults who stayed at the Derwentwater Hotel for 3 nights. Age 30-40. Location The location of the hotel is very good. Only 10 minute walk from Keswick. Bit of a pain to find hotel as navigator does not hold CA12 post code (ensure you know where to go once you find Keswick) Views The views and landscaping on the grounds of the hotel were very good overlooking the derwent lake which you can walk to. We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Derwent Manor apartments across the road from the main hotel. We have stayed in the self catering before for a week in summer 4 years ago with our teenage children and also the two of us had a weekend stay later in a hotel room. We prefer the self catering as you have more space (own kitchen and lounge) but can use the hotel restaurant and lovely conservatory across the road. We have taken our dog with us each time. We have now stayed in this hotel on two occasions, both have been special events, our stay was superb, both rooms have overlooked the gorgeous gardens and lake and waking up to that view lifts the spirits no matter what the weather. A stoll at sunrise prior to breakfast was breathtaking. The hotel staff are polite, friendly and extremeley helpful. The Derwentwater Hotel is very nicely situated in a small village near Keswick. Our room, which was booked by DFDS Seaways, seemed to be the cheapest in the hotel, situated on the streetside (no lake view), but was comfortable. The breakfast was excellent but the dinner a bit disappointing. Not very special and average taste. This is a three star hotel charging five star prices. Dinner bed and breakfast for two adults and two small children £400. The wine list is only thirty bottles long, and the menu is 1970s Hilton. Not actually unpleasant, but hugely overpriced.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Derwentwater Hotel. Quality of service and room sizes exceptional. Every member of staff was approachable and dealt with our requests efficiently Expensive for families I feel The restaurant menu covered everyone's taste from unusual vegetarian dishes to locally produced foods.
