just got back from the keswick country house hotel on the 26th march with my partner and baby and i'm well impressed by everything, the location is 8 mins from keswick town centre. the food was virtually a'la carte for the 3 coarse meal, with breakfast equally as good.staff were freindly and helpful.i was impressed with my 4 poster bed room with lounge area, new bathroom and fantastic bay window overlooking the gardens as an upgrade.the hotel was only 10% young families, mainly 40-60 age couples, but we didn't feel out of place.the atmosphere always was very peaceful and no one would have felt out of place.would recommend this hotel to anyone apart from groups of lads or girls,as its not that type of place.the only critism of the whole place would be the additional wine and bar prices.if you don't drink its the bargain of the decade,if you do its about 17 quid a bottle of hardys red wine, don't let that put you off as i'd definately book again soon
Wouldnt go back

Had a terribe stay here, room was lovely but could have been cleaner. Food was ok but too fussy for plainer tastes, too many ideas but not in line with the chefs ability. Breakfast is laid out on hot plates which I dont like as it sits there all morning going all frizzled under the lights. Staff were miserable and quite unfriendly, would never stay there again.
Very good - a pleasant surprise

Loved it. Two nights DB+B at £74 per night for the room (my wife and myself). Great staff, very good evening meals at an excellent rate. Good location. Slightly dated feel maybe but that was part of the attraction. Would definitely go back.

My family & I stayed here in May 07 - it was booked by my parents for the whole family to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The outside of the hotel is impressive and the grounds are lovely. The hotel itself is tired and in need of redecoration. Our room was dingy and not spotlessly clean. There was dust at the edges of the carpet which needed replacing. The room was quite tired & shabby looking. The food was ok - evening meals better than breakfast which was decidedly average although the service was good. I would much rather stay in a small B&B. I would not return here.
Good place to relax for a few days

We were looking for a last minute short break in the Lake District and having read the reviews on Tripadvisor for this hotel decided to give it a try. It turned out to be even better than we expected and we would certainly stay again in the future. Our room was quiet and very clean - and of a good size too. It is a traditional country house hotel in a lovely setting and the young staff are all pleasant and helpful. We had booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and are so glad that we did because the meals in the hotel turned out to be the best thing of all about it. More like eating at a bespoke restaurant than hotel food, and the menu changes every day. This hotel is very reasonably priced and the service we received was better than we have had in many hotels at nearly twice the price!
Disappointed tired looking hotel

We have just come back from a New year 3 night break which was very average. To start with we were given a family room that can only be described as horrible. There were stains on the walls, very basic furniture and the walls outside the room had the wallpaper coming off of it with large brown stains all over it. Not what I would want my child to be around! However , after complaining about the room the staff were very accomodating and upgraded us to a station room for free. This room was much better but I wouldn't have said it was a luxury room as described by the hotel. The hotel in general is very tired and in need of alot of attention. It has from what I could see and feel a severe damp problem. Wall paper was coming off most of the walls and the walls outside of our bedroom were soft and could be pushed in due to the damp issue . The entertainment was as the previous review quite boring. The conservatory was more like a cold out house and most people in the end declined from coming into it to celebrate New Year. The DJ got the time wrong anyway and announced new year 5 mins before it had actually happened. The other entertainment I would expect to have seen in a working mans club and not in what is supposed to be a 3 star hotel. The food however we found was lovely and there was lots of it. The dinning room was quite nice but again lacked atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and friendly and really tried to make everyone feel welcome. The bar and lounge did not have enough seats for the amount of people who were in the hotel and like the previous review it got quite annoying having to find some-one all the time to serve us. I would not recommend this hotel for a New Year break but if you want something cheap which is close to the town centre then this hotel would be suitable.

The Hotel is quite nice to a point but is really in need of a good refurbishment as everything looks 'very tired'. The lounge is very dismal and could do with lots of 'cosy' lighting to try and make it look inviting. The bar staff have to be located everytime you need drinks. The bar snacks are very good and the food in the restaurant is alright if you like lots of sauces and unusual combinations of different foods on one plate. Breakfast was well presented as a buffet and a good selection. The staff are good and friendly. In-house music is very boring as they only played two tapes playing for the whole time we were at the Hotel. The conservatory is cold and could do with a lot of attention to upgrade it. Bedrooms are of a good size but again are ready for a good make-over It would have been nice to have a bit of light entertainment in the evenings but there is nothing to do in the Hotel itself on an evening. However the Hotel is in a lovely area of the Lake District and is ideal for the out-door type of people.
Twixmas Break

We have just got back from a 2 night post christmas break which was a christmas present to my hubby. We travelled with our 12 and 14 year old sons. After reading a review on here about the station rooms I have to say we were a bit worried as our room was located there, but the room was fantastic and HUGE with 2 double beds. Many have said that the rooms could do with a little updating I agree but it did not deter from the qulaity of the trip . The hotel was cosy and very christmassy with beautiful decorations and we could not fault it. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere and decor in the dining room with the authentic features was beautiful. Despite the odd chipped paint work and ripped wall paper don't let this put you off. Everything from staff to rooms to food and location was superb. We will be going again very soon.
Great stay

A party of 21 of us have just had the most enjoyable long weekend at the Keswick Country House Hotel to celebrate the 50th birthday of my wife. Ages ranged from 14 to 75 and what a wonderful holiday we had. Hotel managers Gail (who dealt so well with all my booking enquiries!) and her sister Stephanie, and all the staff made all of us so welcome right from arrival. The majestic old hotel building sits in large gardens which looked lovely even in November. It is only a short (less than 5 mins) walk into the centre of Keswick town. All rooms were spacious and very clean, some of our group had Standard rooms or Superior rooms, and we had a Junior Suite on the top(3rd) floor which has a large bathroom, small walk-in dressing room, and a very comfortable raised sitting area. There is on the ground floor a very comfortable bar and lounge area to enjoy a pre-dinner drink (although poor choice of beers and quite expensive). The menu choice and standard of food served was marvellous, with not one complaint from any of our party who can be quite fussy sometimes! Both breakfast and dinner were great and very substantial to keep everyone going on the long Fell walks. An excellent hotel and very friendly staff, we can't wait to return soon as possible
5 star food and service 2 star rooms

Stayed here for a weekend break. The food and the service was better than some five star hotels which we have stayed in but I do agree that the rooms and decor need some updating. The rooms did not match the service but other than that Iwould recommend this hotel.
Lovely hotel, lovely holiday and great activities.
Loved it:-)
