Swallow Hilltop Hotel

This Hotel provided excellent value for money, with good food and friendly staff. The rooms though clean, definitely require redecorating

was wary of going to hotel after reading reviews but had a lovely time. Good food, friendly staff and comfortable room, OK a couple of carpets were in need of replacing but the warm welcome more than made up for that. Nice leisure centre. Close to pubs with good entertainment and easy walk into town.

I booked this hotel from the USA, My daughter and I were so dissappointed. The room was so small, the bathroom was dirty with mold on the ceiling and tile grout that was filthy. I asked room service if we could have some coffee,to be told to make my own in the room as he didn't know when he would get to it! However the kettle in our room had green fur in the bottom.All in all it was a awful mess, Swallow hotels really need to address the problems and also do some refurbishment ,cleaning and staff training. On arrival we had to wait while the receptionist had a cigarette. The whole hotel looked tired and shabby. The rooms were dusty and distinctly dated, the net curtains looked like the had never had a wash and were torn. The only window wouldn't shut properly and the room was oppressively hot, hot water pipes had some form of lagging covering them but this was open at the end and was disintigrating. This was a stop off night on our journey north from a lovely cruise with my elderly Mum I had read the comments left before on trip advisor but thought I could deal with any problems that cropped up... Rang bell in reception and was greeted with voice from the back ground saying "give me a minute." DO NOT book a wedding/reception at this venue. I had nothing but trouble from start to finish. When I went to look around, this was fine - remember potential nice little earner for th hotel. DO NOT be fooled. I paid my deposit for my Wedding reception (got married abroad so only needed wedding reception). 4 months later I phoned the hotel as had received nothing in writing confirming the date, etc. So I rang, to be told it was Christmas, and to phone back in the New Year, when they weren't as busy. This is by far the worst hotel i have ever been in, My room smelled of urine, the wallpaper was hanging off the walls, and the staff weren't very pleasant either! The best part of the hotel was the sauna, steamroom and pool...... well thats if you want to discount the second we left the hotel!

Stayed here for one night for husbands birthday got good dbb deal. Room nice, clean, comfy bed. Wallpaper bit tatty. Pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi all nice, clean. Dinner lovely, service good, wine (free with deal!) also nice!!! Room again bit tatty, wallpaper ripped/patchy. Breakfast nice, buffet service. Location excellent as short walk -10 mins-to town, local pub (cheap drink!!)

My wife and I stayed at the swallow hilltop for two nights 15/16 of February we found it on the net and the web sight made it look good and so we booked , we arrived an hour early and told we would have to come back, but were not told that we could use the facilites while waiting , we came back one hour later and we were booked in , the first room we had to ask to change as we seemed to be over a boiler room or something and the noise was unbearable ,and so were given another , although this room was quieter it still had that horrible musty... more

This hotel should be closed down immediately as it is a disgrace to the Swallow brand and not what one would expect from a hotel of this standard. We booked a double for Valentines Day - we were given a twin - how romantic! No other rooms available. Our room stank of urine! Upon complaining we were moved to another room. Both rooms a disgrace. Peeling wallpaper, dirty, far too hot, marks on walls, threadbare carpets, no shampoo, cigarette burns in sheets etc! As we tried 2 rooms I know we didn't just get the duff room!<br... more
