The first thing you must know is that the only place in the hotel that has air conditioning is reception - the rooms have none, and very small windows, we had weather of up to 36c - and you could not sleep for the heat - avoid Prague in the summer months unless you find a hotel with aircon.
We mentioned the heat to a couple at breakfast the first morning and they said haven’t you asked for a fan ? - The reception don't tell you that you can borrow one free of charge.
The room or should I say suite was vast, we had two rooms for just the two of us. the bathroom was lovely - the first room had a desk, a little round table with two chairs and a sofa. You could have held a dance in there ! - the bedroom had a king-size bed, desk with telly on it and minibar underneath, a wardrobe, and bedside cabinets, again room for about 30 people at a party in it!
be warned they charge for every extra in Prague. There is a kettle in the room, but if there isn't phone down for one, we had to. Take your own teabags, they supply fruit tea in little boxes, and sachets of coffee and sugar, no milk. When we checked out they charged us 20kr for each coffee we drank! Which is about 70p !!
Breakfast was enough, cereal, bread, fruit, toast, yogurt - scrabbled eggs, cheese, meat etc. Fruit juice, tea coffee water. You can have this from 7am til 10am.
The bar was open each day from about 11am - but the prices made it be empty all the time. Twice the price for a beer than anywhere else.
We had dinner in a Bavarian restaurant next door to the hotel out of the front door turn left. - it was very nice, and quite cheap. The food was well cooked - you can have pork - duck, chicken etc served with the tastiest saukraut I have ever had, and a side order of potato dumplings.
They seem to put a plate of bread on your table without you asking... if you don't want it - say no or don't touch it they charge extra for it everywhere you go.. someone told me that this happened to them - and when they asked for the bill they were asked how many slices they had eaten and were charged per slice!
Do not go to the newest restaurant in Prague called Cowboys and Cocktails, on the road up to the castle. It advertises authentic American steaks. We ordered rump steak with a couple of side orders, one of onion rings and another of duck roast potatoes. The plate came - it was about 18" in diameter - with a steak about 4" x 2" - tiny! - Nothing else on the plate! - Good job it was too hot to eat much! - With a couple of beers and I must say a very nice cheesecake the bill was 1,600 Kr... 40kr to the Pound - you do the maths. Rip off.
Enjoy your visit to Prague, expect to walk a lot, pay for extras, and have an experience you have never before.
