best time ever..!!!!

Aug 2011, stephie-woo

we travelled to cyprus, polis on 27th june 2010 until the 11th july 2010. when we arrived at the mariela it was 3 o clock in the morning because of our 8 hour delay, we did wake pambos up but he sorted us out and was very welcoming and kind and showed us to our room. the next day he came and welcomed us properly.lol and made sure we had everything we needed even air con (is a must in june-july) and gave us a discount on it of like 10euro's because thats how kind he is, everybody is right you all get treated like family rather than guests. the rooms were very clean they are cleaned every day apart from sunday (day off for cypriots), you get fresh towels everyday sometimes twice a day, our view was amazing we got to look at the church and the sea and the balcolny got sun all day and so does the pool area until the sun goes down, the pools are very clean and so is the pool area, pambos comes and cleans them himself every morning and night and his wife make some smashing toasties, yum yum :) it is a quiet village but there is everything you need such as the supermarket literally 2 mins down the street and plenty of bars and places to eat all with in walking distance. i'd say it takes 10 mins to walk into polis town, there are plenty of places to hire cars and bikes from and the locals are very friendly as well. the rooms are basic but like we say you only sleep in it and change in it so why moan about it eh. on a night pambos comes and sits with you and chats away and brings out free pints of keo (cyprus beer) and what ever the ladies are drinking, they really appreciate you staying at thier hotel and we were really shocked that at christmas they even sent us a christmas card which pulled on those heart strings a bit.lol we are looking to go back on september 4th this year 2011 cant wait sooooooo excited its so peaceful and nice it really makes you relax and feel at home. thank you mariela you are absoblutley wonderful.

  • Advice: make sure you get a car if you want to explore cos like i said its a lovely peaceful village.

We really liked this hotel. Generally pretty clean, good size rooms, nice swimming pools, good atmosphere, friendly welcome, good value for money. Would certainly go again.
Free wireless internet a real plus. Food not that inspiring but that didnt matter as there's a pretty impressive supermarket (as good as anything in UK) about 2 mins walk away and you can cook in room.
Polis area very good for older couples, very quiet and plenty of decent restaurants and bars - the best one is on edge of town, two minutes walk turn left from hotel.
Best to hire a car as bus service doesnt run in evenings.
Beaches were ok but pebbly. Nothing special to see and a fair walk from the hotel.

We have been going to Polis for many years its a lovely place to go to relax and is very different from Paphos, if you like holidays that are laid back then Polis is the place to go.
You have a long walk to Polis beach which really when you get there isn't worth the walk(or drive) I would recommend hireing a car and having a drive to near by Latci and a bit further to Pomos beach where you will find a beautiful beach complete with deck chairs and foot stools which is looked after by a fantastic guy ,who is so friendly and speaks french, english, german and loves to have a chat and makes you feel so welcome.
Evenings in Polis can be spent in one of many good taverners/bars in the square. Or visit Latci harbour which has many a good fish taverna's.
We have stayed at many hotels/apartments in polis over the years but for the last 4years have stayed at the Mariela as we find the rooms are clean well equiped and the family who own the Mariela are such a friendly family and always make you feel so welcome and part of the family, many vistitors do return year after year. When you first arrive at the apartments you may think oh dear what have we come to as the entrance is on the main road and behind a row of shops but once inside you would never know, its got a double pool area one on the higher level which is great for children and those who aren't confident swimmers and the large lower pool for all swimmers. Thers plenty of sunbed and pool bar which serves great meals all day & night. Overall the Mariela is a great place for a self catering holiday and me and my family hope to return again next year.
