Great Hotel

Great points:
Fabulous food - so much choice, freshly made
Lovely room - clean, housekeeping staff lovely, everything you need
Location - Really near the beach 10 min walk
Beach - on the beach there is an all inclusive bar for people staying at the vita park! It serves drinks and snacks from 11-4 and it was a lovely suprise to know we didnt have to leave our sun loungers
All inclusive - did not seemed restricted by times, measures very generous and we were still drinking at 5am in the morning
Massage - Get one from the guys in the hotel ... AMAZING!
Entertainment - different activities during the day and very professional shows at night
Golden Sands - not far away and cheap to get to if you barter with taxi drivers, well worth a visit for a wee change lots to see
Not so great:
Staff - not very friendly or helpful
Boat trip - we booked the lazy day cruise but it was only a couple of hours did get to go fishing but it was over priced for what you got
Area - this is only personally ... i am 21 and was away with my boyfriend, sister (18) and mum ... the area is deffo geared towards families with young children which means once it hits 11/12pm everything closes down
All in all we had a great holiday ... it certainly wasnt party central but the perfect holiday for relaxing and re charging our batteries! It was my 3rd time in Bulgaria and really enjoyed it yet again.

All the staff were amazing- very helpful; especially the animation staff!
They made my holiday one to remember.
Cannot comment on the food as we wer self-catering.
The pool was nice and well looked after.
It was only a small walk from lots of restaurants and there was a free bus you could catch to get to the beach.
We stayed in the small villa's, not in the hotel but my only complaint would be the size. For the five of us it was abit squashed but all in all it was very good.
I would highly recommend Vita Park and i would love to visit it again next year.

Aug 2008, Mr P Harper

Reception Staff and holiday rep very unhelpful, no smiles. We were self catering so cannot comment on the food.
No acceptable seating in Villa - we had to sit on dining chairs.
Villa very clean and initial problems were sorted out quickly (leaking tap and shower problems).
We requested a first floor apartment but ended up on the ground floor with no sun coming onto any of our balconies.
Pool by the Ralista hotel and mini golf was great (quiet and clean).
In general we found the local Bulgarians quite unfriendly and constantly pestering you to use their restaurant, taxi, shop... We felt that they just wanted your money and were not interested in making your stay any better.
We found a few friendly (cheaper) restaurants - the Caribo (which was at the south end of the beach) was our favourite, staff were friendly and atmosphere was good.
Loads of flies - make sure you take some bite cream.
Beach and sea were great - weather was fantastic - sun every day.
On the whole we enjoyed the holiday but not as cheap as we thought it would be and felt like the Bulgarians just didnt want us there. Probably would not go again (until the Bulgarians cheer up a bit).

Aug 2008, Mr L.M Addis

After reading all the reviews, I must admit I was a little worried !!! But as we were going with friends who went year I decided to accept there point of view. I am glad I did as the holiday was actually good. The food in the all Inclusive buffet style restaurant was good and what I would call "samey samey", but still all tasted nice and there was plenty to choose from and it did the job. The entertainment around the pool was good and they tried to include everybody that WANTED to join in I do not know many people that can talk 3 or 4 different languages to include everybody. I would definitely consider going back, as for the Germans, they are nation that do there own thing, and they did not really bother me, I did not feel like they pushed in, they just do not queue if they do not need to. I would recommend this hotel and resort.

an all inclusive holiday that turned into self catering, the brits all asked each other what was in the pig swill today, the staff on reception were ignorant and wouldnt help you if you were british, my 11 year old son was bored as no english entertainment and sky tv was in german, the beer was like drinking water, you had no chance of getting tipsy never mind drunk, all the brits stick together as we are all in the same boat but one night we were all having a drink on the hotel patio when the germans were throwing water at us from their balconies as we were noisy at 11 oclock at night, bar shuts at 11pm then you must be quiet or they ring the police, albena itself is very small, boring and a waste of time so dont book, if you already have booked then i prey it goes quickly for yous

Jul 2007, Mrs A INGHAM

We were in a party of nine including one baby. Two of the party had been before when it first opened. We found it clean and tidy even the pavements were washed. The only problem we had with Vita Park was the amount of Germans!
I do think it is bad of British travel agents to send British people to a manly German hotel. Food good weather even better. If you go. Don’t queue up like normal British people barge in front with the Germans, or no chance of getting anything.
I would go here again if there were less Germans. You have been warned.

The hotel was basic but fine. The staff were really good - only annoying bit was the porter demanding money! But they all do that, don't they?
The food was fresh and good, less variation than I've had elsewhere, but we paid next to nothing to go and there was sun and a pool and a great beach a short walk away.
We had only paid 240GBP each, and I had no qualms about anything.
We went on a trip to Nessebar, which was fun and we had a great guide, who went on about 'bloody communists' all the time!

All the previous reviews are telling...
2 / 10
Aug 2006, Ms F Amos

All the previous reviews are telling the whole truth! Avoid this hotel. We returned home last night and still have the runs and griping pains. Most people we spoke to had the same problem. The food was appalling. The cold food was not kept cold and the hot food...nothing was hot except the soup. Meat was uncooked but we discovered a microwave in the restaurant which we started using.
The staff on the whole were unfriendly and unhelpful. Some were down right arrogant, especially when they realised you were English. Only a few speak English.
No entertainment. Even the satellite TV was all German. I still have poxy German holiday tunes ringing through my head which the German entertainers were singing on the hour. Einz Vie Dry. Not enough seating in the bar area.
Despite it being written that it's a quiet resort...it was not. Noisy crowds all night every night. We had to buy ear plugs from the chemists. Don't forget to pack some.
The pool area was unsafe with crumbling concrete, missing tiles and loose rail fittings. My child got a few small cuts on her feet from the grit at the bottom of the pool. Packed with sun loungers and still not enough. Some days we went across the road to use the Ralitza pool which was much bigger, less crowded and the entertainers spoke English.
A couple of families we spoke to were robbed; from their room or around the pool. Bulgarian people work hard and get paid very small wages...approx £3 - £10 per day. Make sure you use the security box.
Be cautious about haggling. I tried to get the price down for goods which were slightly damaged and the seller almost shouted me out of the shop reminding me of Bulgarian rates of pay.
Albena resort was ok. Albena tends to be 3 times as expensive as anywhere else. Visit Nessebar if you can. Peter's House is good for food and the Banana Bar is very friendly. A good meal is about £3 - £10.
The sea is not shallow for any distance so gets very crowded. The beach is nice but couldn't find any showers. Beds and parasol about £2 each. The water park in the next resort was fun, but also crumbling and difficult to walk around because of slippery tiled floors. Extra charge for bed and parasol inside.
Take a horse and carriage ride but beware of the drivers trying to get you to pay more than you agreed. It's about £7 - £10. Taxis are well priced with return deals. Return to Varna was about £20.
I will not be going back and was not impressed or 'wowed' by any of it. You should have heard the cheers when the coach arrived to collect us. 2 weeks was painfully too long and we were bored to bits for the last 5 days or so...with sore bottoms too!

Bungalows O.K. Cleaning smelled good,...
3 / 10
Jul 2006, Mrs M.R Marie

Bungalows O.K. Cleaning smelled good, but the water was black after cleaning other apartments before ours. And this water was used again and again, leaving hair e.g from others at our floor every time.
The receptionist was impolite, refuse to help or give any service if you have problems. I wonder if they can smile, because I saw none, ever. They quickly turn their back to you if they feel they are finished talking.
At breakfast the same angry woman came to us and asked for cards even though she has seen it 10 times before?
The bartenders was nice and polite, and so was 2 people at the reception. (While 5 was not)
But we had a really nice vacation, and chose to have as little as possible to do with the employed. We rented a car, and took the bus to the small town Balchik many times. Beautiful little city with nice atmosphere. Cheaper too. ;)
Albena is quiet and everything close at 12. I really recommended to rent a car and see more of Bulgaria. It is a beautiful country.

Jul 2006, Mr J Harris

Well were do I start? I’ll do the bad points first seen as there will be quite alot ok sit back if you are English there is absolutely no point going to this hotel they love Germans serve them first EVERYTIME all the 2 weeks we were there my partner and are 2children there is no entertainment what’s so ever its ALL IN GERMAN 2LIKE MOST THINGS!!! The food was absolute awful nothing worth eating what’s so ever same food all day long, there were nights we had to go out and eat cos nothing was worth eating in the complex and why should you go out and spend money on food when pay for all inclusive? (YOU SHOULDN'T I SAY!) If going you should watch out for the pools too even though the pools are lovely probably the best part of hotel they had lots of broken tiles in bottom of it (EVEN KIDS POOL). Also while we were there if do go to this place if stay in the apartments are friends we went with got there apartment broke into due to no security at all... Think this would be the last bad point if going and got kids all the entertainment staff will only involve your child if he/she is German we ask 1day if our little boy could draw a picture and they basically said no was going to do something else but with a bunch of German kids so wasn't best pleased.
The good points are the place is very clean due to cleaners mainly saw them cleaning all hours even after mid night was still hard at it some of the bar staff are great easy to get on with but some not as good. The rooms were nice and clean too just shame about the air con (was none) just a mozzie net cover over the door. 1 of the last things I’ll say id NEVER GO BACK THERE IF SOME1 PAID ME!!! If already going make a couple of days out to the water park its excellent its only $10 GBP and worth going to if read all the comments on this page they are all right as I didn’t think they would be until I got back all the English in the hotel said the same be warned

Jun 2006, Andrea Cummins

On Arrival at the Vita Park Hotel we checked in but were not given our key it was given to a very rude porter who show's you to your room the after quickly throwing your bags in the room runs past you holding his hand out for money. All the entertainment is in German so all the English kids including my 12 year old were bored stiff.
Apparently the English entertainment was across the road at the Ralitsa but you can’t use your armband inside that hotel because it’s a 4 * you can only use it at the pool bar. The food in the restaurant was edible but was the same sort of thing every day so was the snack bar. The bar in the lobby doesn’t have enough seats for an all inclusive hotel so unless you get there early you won’t get a seat. At the pool bar at night it was all Germans so we didn’t go but had no problem getting served there during the day.
Some of the hotel staff were reasonably friendly and some weren’t. The hotel its self is very nice and clean the rooms are quite a good size ours had 2 bedrooms the pool is great with 2 slides in it. It is quite a steep hill up to the hotel but there is a little train every 10 minuets that will take you to the centre. The resort of Albena is quite nice but it isn’t very big and there isn’t much going on we went for a week and I think any longer would have been too much. There are a few bars with things going on a night Poco loco and the Tropical Bar are the 2 best ones.
The weather wasn’t very good but that cant be helped, on the way back to the airport it was torrential rain and the plain we were supposed to be going home on was hit by lightning and we ended up staying for another 23 hours. The Thompson head rep Phyl was brilliant he found rooms for 300 people in about an hour and a half we were put up in a hotel in Golden Sands over night and the entertainment was in German there as well so I think it just isn’t the place for the English We were kept well informed about what was going on until we checked back in at the airport and then it was every man for himself.
We definitely won’t be going back to Bulgaria in any time soon but maybe it might improve over the next few years you never know.

We booked this holiday in Jan...
1 / 10
Sep 2005, Mrs D Simpson-Wood

We booked this holiday in Jan 05.There was a party of 10 of us and we should have been staying in the hotel Ralitsa. First choice called us 4 days before our holidays to say that the hotel had been overbooked, and we were being moved to the vita park hotel.
When we landed at Varna airport we were told we were still staying at the Ralitsa but we were taken to the vita park villas and were still able to use the Ralitsa facilities as we were given the wristbands at reception. The villas were in a block of 4.They were very damp and foist and the beds were very wet and damp.
We went to the restaurant for breakfast. An English breakfast consisted of fat strips for bacon, runny fried eggs, raw scrambled eggs and bullet beans. There was lots of pushing and shoving in the restaurant. There was a ski slope ramp or stairs to get up to this restaurant, and having a disabled child in a wheelchair was really hard work having to push it up there.
Every day the snack bars served spaghetti, chips, Frankfurt sausages and pizza with various left over toppings from the day previous. All your drinks came in plastic cups. The evening meal was just as bad. As soon as you saw the food your stomach flipped. The cakes were not too bad. You were allowed 1 visit to the a la carte restaurant. We were really looking forward to a decent meal. We waited ages for our food as the German tourists always get priority in this complex, for drinks aswell ordered chicken kebab, which came in a dish. It was chicken in water with cheese on top. I ate some chicken but as I peered into my dish I noticed that it was still red inside. I spent the next day with sickness and the runs. Another tourist collapsed in the restaurant with suspected food poisoning. I was talking to an elderly gentleman who had eaten in the a la carte the same night and he had to see a doctor because he also had food poisoning.
The 4 star Ralitsa never had any milk in the evening, so you could not get a warm drink. They hardly ever had loo roll either. As we were waiting in the Ralitsa to come home there was a mouse running round, which eventually made its way down to where the indoor pool area served snacks. We had actually eaten bread e.t.c there. The receptionist heard our screams but never even glanced up.
We travel quite a lot in groups and this was the holiday from hell. The highlight of our holiday was packing to come home and we did that a few days before our departure. The activities were all in German. The complex gardens and surroundings are well maintained. If people carry your suitcase they beg like mad for money.(even English coins).
Albena is full of prostitutes parading up and down. It is a very quite resort with hardly any nightlife.
We were so looking forward to our all inclusive holiday but spent loads of money going out for food and drinks. We would not go back to this hotel if we were paid to go back. It was the worst holiday experience of a lifetime. First choice customer service has been terrible in handling our complaint about being moved and our complaint since we came back. We will not book with them ever again.
