Metropole Hotel

very good hotel close to town centre st hellier food and service exellent swimming pools in door out door, gym, rooms very good advice to fly, got stuck for four days by bad weather going by boat, Half day tour of island value for money recomended , not in peak times ie july august.

We spent a week at the Metropole in September and had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is conveniently located for the shops, restaurants and bars in St. Helier. Having opted not to hire a car for our trip we also found the hotel to be within a reasonable distance of the bus station, which was about a 10 minute walk. The room - and indeed the hotel as a whole - was thoroughly clean and the decor was modern and bright. The reception and hotel staff were friendly and helpful throughout without being intrusive. Meanwhile the internet access provided in the reception area was a nice touch, enabling us to keep up-to-date with emails whilst away. The Metropole excels in terms of food, with a good variety of options for breakfast. Better still was the evening meal which - for five courses at £12.50 - constituted excellent value for money. Being a large hotel the Metropole offers breakfast from 8.00 until 9.30, which suits those of us who don't like waking up too early. Likewise dinner could be taken at any point over a couple of hours, giving the resident the flexibility to fit in around their plans for the day. Unfortunately there were a few drawbacks which prevent the Metropole from earning a full five stars... Noise - the sound of people passing through the corridors and walking around in the rooms above carries very badly indeed. Dining Room - the tables are bunched MUCH too close together. Great if you like socialising and making new friends, not so great if you want a romantic meal or some peace and quiet. Games Room - a missed opportunity given that it's a decent size and well stocked in terms of facilities. The pool table for example is in a sorry state and could do with new cloth, queues and some chalk! In summary the Metropole provided a good stay. It seems to be most successful with the older generations, putting on entertainment such as bingo and cabaret. But given it's quality and location there's no reason that younger visitors to Jersey shouldn't opt for the Metropole as well.
