Absolutely fabulous Hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the receptionist Annette. Our rooms were all lovely, very fresh and modern, and very clean. All thoroughfares were very nice and presented superbly. The Bar was very cosy and friendly and prices were not as... more

Pity about the restaurant
My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of June on a half board basis. On first impressions, the hotel seemed quite pleasant. The staff at reception were helpful and friendly. The room was a reasonable size and clean. The bed was comfy and large. The bathroom was modern and looked like it had been recently refurbished. However, the shower kept turing from hot to cold on both mornings. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant. If you wish to eat Al A Carte menu then you are expected to order by 4.30pm on the day from a very poor, basic menu. The table d'hote menu was even more basic and the food reminded me something you might get 20 years ago. It was bland and boring. The service was about the same! The breakfast was just as bad. Another poor selection and the 'various preserves' consisted of strawberry jam and marmalade. If you didn't want a cooked breakfast then its was cereal and perhaps a stale croissant. Overall, the hotel is good value for money and the room and front of house is in a good decorative order for a 2* hotel. Unfortunately, the restaurant lets this establishment down. The tables had a gap of about 2 inches between them and we were served a 4 course dinner in 45 minutes! Even though we had half board included, we decided to eat out on our second night so that we could have a decent and relaxing night out.
great hotel
Excellant hotel, suprised it only has a 2 star rating. The evening meal and breakfast was very good, with waiter service staff friendly and efficient. There was entertainment every night, maybe not to everyones taste,as the hotel does have a majority of elderly guests. The bar staff and reception were both helpfull and polite, the indoor swimming pool smallish but adequate for the few guests using it.Our only problem was the weather it rained practicully the whole of the week we were there,so we were pleased to be at a good hotel. If i return to Jersey,i will stay at one of the beautiful costal bays,as i found St Helier to be drab and congested car wise.
Surprising Quality & Value
Spotted a 6 night break at this hotel with half board, flights, and 3 days free car hire in the local evening papers travel supplement at a bargain price. And no single supplements either!!! We arrived on a slightly wet morning after a relatively short flight from Doncaster Sheffield Airport, and were greeted by a little mini bus (albeit the worse for wear) at Jersey Airport. Was this a sign of things to come I asked myself?? It certainly wasnt the Hotel was well maintained, clean and modern, with shiny marble floors and large leather sofas. Even the loos were clean, modern and spotless!!! Staff at reception were helpful and after completing our Registration details were given our room keys - and pointed in the direction of our rooms.Porters are on hand if you need help!!! We had two rooms - both fresh and clean. With tv, telephone, hair dryers, and tea/coffee making facilities. The Bathrooms were modern and fully tiled with under floor heating and over bath showers...again clean and spotless. The only downsides (for my room at least) were that where it was positioned on the first floor where you had to endure the noise from the nightly entertainment below, and with the room being so warm all the time you needed the window open in an attempt to cool it down, and each day I was woken by the sound of pottery and cutlery clattering. The food was good too, for breakfasts the usual choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit, or juices, followed by a selection of cooked or continental breakfasts, with tea, toast and coffee. Just enough to set you on your way for the day ahead. Evening meals were satisfactory too with a choice of the daily evening menu or pay more for A La Carte, the choice was yours. We stuck with the main menu and found the choice and variety was good and straight forward and well presented. The restaurant staff were also very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. Entertainment was geared towards the older holiday maker, with hotel residents coming from a broad spectrum of ages. For once it was great not to be the youngest there at 41!! For those health into fitness, there was an indoor pool and gym, and an outdoor sun terrace. All in all a 2 star (pending 3 star) hotel that would put many 4 star hotels to shame. Excellent value for money without sacrificing on quality, cleanliness, or friendliness.
The Mayfair Experience
Just returned from a 4 night stay at The Mayfair for the duration of a football tour. I stay in hotels frequently and I have to say that this is one of the best oI have stayed in for overall value for money. Clean, friendly and helpful staff, reasonably priced and well stocked bar and comfortable rooms. Also found the free internet useage to be nice touch which I have not come across anywhere else. The excellent weather also embellished the feelgood experience of my whole time at the hotel and in Jersey itself. I wouldn't hesitate to return to the hotel or confidently recommend it to others. Can't believe it is only has a 2 star rating as it certainly shames some 4 star places I could think of!!
Pleasantly surprised
We took a late break to Jersey during the Easter Holidays. I stay in a lot of Hotels through my work, and was therefore not expecting much from a 2 * Hotel, however both myself and my family were pleasantly surprised. The Hotel is very well situated for a walk into St Helier, and whilst parking is limited, we didnt have a problem for the three days we stayed. The Hotel was exceptionally clean, and the staff friendly and helpful. The family room had full size bunkbeds for the children, much nicer than the normal pull out campstyle beds that a lot of Hotels provide. The TV in the room is very small but functional, and as we werent in the room for long anyway, it didnt matter to us. The pool was a little cold and my daughter could only manage 20 mins, however the children did join the childrens club on one of the evenings and had a great time. The food was well priced, but could only be described as ordinary, catering for the masses, with set meals. A buffet style breakfast would have been much nicer, but again the staff were very polite and friendly, especially the girl in the coffee shop, who provided our children with their bedtime milk. We would consider staying again, if and when we return to Jersey.
Had a great time at the Mayfair!
Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Mayfair for 4 nights at the beginning of September this year and we had an excellent time (we are 29 and 26). If I'm completely honest, we weren't expecting too much from the hotel as it was one of the cheapest in the brochure but we were really pleasantly surprised when we got there. The gym looked really good and we made full use of the pool and steam room. Unfortunately, the jacuzzi was being replaced at the time we were there so we didn't get to use that but will look forward to that for next time! Our room was nice and clean and the shower was really good. The hotel bar was good and the bar staff very friendly. It does seem to be a hotel where older people like to stay so the evening entertainment isn't very good but there are plenty of places to go out to in the evenings so that wasn't a problem for us. We would definitely stay there again, and have already planned to next year!
Hmmmm, not as good as expected
We stayed at the Mayfair last week, half-board for a week. We weren't that impressed, the brochures seem to make it sound better than it is. It has 242 bedrooms and they are just like a travel lodge in Britain, but not as clean. Our room was cleaned daily with clean towels, but appears that they only clean the bare necessities! On arrival, there was a thick layer of dust on the telephone, mirror, bedside tables and headboard. The bathroom had a really good powerful shower over the bath, but lime in the sink from lack of cleaning, tiles look like they not been cleaned for months and the toilet brush (had to have a look!) was grosse! I wont go into detail! The meals were very average, some microwaved foods, i.e lasagne etc. We didn't look forward to them. Other people complained to us too. They weren't bad but very average. Three courses and breakfast was the same every day. The cooked breakfast was horrible, in my opinion. I guess as they have to cook for so many people. The pool area is quite small and the jacuzzi wasn't working when we were there, but they had an apology poster. The gym looked good. The staff and on reception, are really nice and helpful. The waiter and waitresses are all foreign, Poland, Kenyian etc, but very nice and well mannered. I dont know if it is the time of year but our hotel was full of OAP's, nothing against them, the majority are very nice and we made friends. But we did feel like we were in an old folks home as we and another couple were the only ones under 60. So the entertainment was not suited to us, we are ages 36 and 45. Whether or not it is the same all year I obviously dont know.Bingo every night and then an organist and solo artists. The magician one night was ok but very old dated jokes. Overall I personally would not come here again, shame, but it may suit some people. We had a day trip to St Malo, France. It was really good and well worth going. A walled city with cobbled streets. For smokers, you can get duty free cigarettes on the boat because we learn't you cannot get them in Jersey!! Only the perfume is duty free on the island. We found the airport before we left and the plane on the way back, to be the only options to buy cheap tobacco. There are lots of jewellrey shops but is not cheaper. It is a lot cheaper to go to places by yourself and on the local blue buses and not a coach tour. You would pay about £14 each and then have entrance fees on top, with the tours. We were advised by our tourist rep, to take the 'Island day tour,' to see the Island and what is available to visit, but not the other trips. Our driver did the commentary. Buy a bus time table from the tourist office in Liberation Square, St Helier. The drivers are helpful too. The ''Jersey Zoo' and 'German War Tunnels,' are brilliant. The latter being very nostalgic and educating.
Scorching
We stayed in the Mayfair in June 2002 (seems like a lifetime ago now). The holiday was booked on an allocation on arrival basis and we were slightly apprehensive about what sort of hotel we would get - we'd been in some rather dodgy ones in Spain before, but there wasnt any need to worry. On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with a quick and efficient check in and had our bags carried up to our room for us. The room itself was faultless, it had a double and bunk beds. The room was quite large and had a nice view of the pool. Aswell as this, the food at the hotel was also faultless. There was a different thing to try on the menu every night, and it was always cooked to perfection. The weather that year was also great, it was at least 25c everyday and there wasnt a drop of rain the whole time we were there. We really did love Jersey as it was a cheap deal at the time and there was lots to do for young kids. Whether I'd take my son back there, who is now 16, I have no idea, the place is very family orientated. At the time, we thought, at least, this hotel was pretty good for £1500.
Mayfair Hotel - Needs a lick of paint
For starters I travel with work and I stay in hotels for corporate travellers so my starndards maybe a bit high but....... The room was in serious need of rennovation, the furniture was worn out and there was a big water leak stain on the ceiling tiles. I had to fix the shower cubicle too. Most of the staff were not from the UK and some could not understand a simple request for a glass of cold water or for a contineltal breakfast. On the day we left we had an early breakfast and had to get our own milk, butter etc as they were still laying the tables. In the entrance to the hotel there is a row of electric carts for the oldies so you can guess on the type of entertainment that is laid on. The Gym was the good bit. Surprising number of machines but the pool was not for swimmers (far too small). Conviently located for St. Helier but the one way system is a maze. The car park is tricky so don't hire a ranger rover.
A Reasonable Hotel at a Reasonable Price
Stayed at the Mayfair for four nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Facilities include an indoor pool and a fitness suite. The room we had was clean but tired looking. The hotel is near the centre of St Helier and very convenient for shopping. We had dinner one night in the hotel and found it to be good value. There is nightly entertainment which I was more suited to the over 50's. The staff are all excellant, particularly the bar staff. Coach trips can also be taken from the hotel and we found them to be a good way to find out about the island. I would stay here again but would shop around the net for the best price because I found so many variations on different travel sites.
