L'Horizon Hotel

Having been to Jersey a few times on business and liked the look of it, we thought it was time we went there to enjoy ourselves. We've stayed at two other hotels on the island, the Longueville and the Atlantic, but this is by far the best hotel for a holiday stay. The Atlantic is lovely, relaxing and with sea views... but it is a drive to the beach. The Longueville is a gastro-tourists delight with an excellent restaurant, and is charming with every personal touch you could ask for... (homemade biscuits in the room, umbrellas, fans, cuddly toy to hug), but it is in the wrong place, not near the sea and on a busy road which is a little disturbing with the windows open. So, L'Horizon is the place to be. It is in St Brelade's bay which is by far the most attractive place on the island, which adds significantly to the experience. We stayed for a week, on a package which included car hire and half board for less than room only. The room was lovely, very clean and comfortable with brand new furniture, big swanky TV and a balcony overlooking the bay. I think if you went here and stayed in one of the rooms which has yet to be refurbished or which overlooked the car park you would have a very different experience and be very disappointed so it is worth specifying and pestering. The half board basis meant we got £25 per head towards dinner (excluding drinks) which meant we could go into the Crystal room for nothing, but unfortunately this is a forgettable experience. The Brasserie is nice, but the best restaurant is the grill. The food here is more expensive and you can expect to fork out another £10-£20 on food alone in there. We were lucky though, when we were there the weather was blissful so we had lobster and fresh fish off the barbeque on the terrace most nights. The only problem with this is that the island has many fabulous places to eat, but once you feel you've paid to eat at the hotel you feel obliged to eat there - plus it is easy - so be careful not to miss out on what else the island has to offer. The staff as far as we were concerned were all charming, the hotel in the perfect position, and we felt spoilt rotten and thoroughly relaxed, and after a week we were very sad to leave.

What a hotel! This hotel has everything, contempary design, 42" Tv's, 4 restaurants, a spa to die for! to round the lot off its on the beach - I could fish off my balcony on a high tide! L'Horizon is aiming for 5 stars next year and has just finished a huge refurbishment. The management team are very approachable and the staff know exactly what they are doing, unlike other hotels in Jersey. I would reccomend this hotel and its location - Jersey was far better than I expected - its like no other holiday destination.
