Grand Hotel George V
A hotel with a soul in the heart of Ostend. This stylish hotel is situated right in the centre of Ostend and its pedestrianised shopping streets. The beach is only 50 metres away and the port and railway station are both nearby.

Simply the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It is filthy, run down, badly run and all food is served by hand!
Rooms are small, carpets stained, toilets disgraceful, staff rude and contradictive.
Gangs of youths use this hotel for all night parties in the rooms and make horrendous noise until after 5am.
Many corridor lights do not work, fire doors are propped open. The lift has no internal doors so could potentially be lethal to toes and fingers
Dogs are allowed in the rooms so be prepared for fleas.
My advice is to keep well clear.

Good location but terrible hotel. Very shabby. The stair carpets were filthy and there was a smell of sewage in the corridors. One lift, taking only two people at a time was not enough for a coach load of people just arrived. My room had a broken shower head, holes in the curtain and the shower tray did not drain properly.
One of the window panes was cracked. One of the lights did not work. My mother-in-law's bathroom had not been cleaned when we arrived - there was pipe tobacco all over the floor. She had a bedside light with no shade, and a non-working fridge. She stepped out of the shower one day to find the towels had not been replaced. Luckily she had brought one of her own.
The breakfast was just about adequate but the dining room was very cramped and people were queuing and bumping into each other. We gave the dinner two chances before opting to eat elsewhere at our own expense, as it was very bland and there was no choice given. The worst thing is we came up in some insect bites and so did the coach driver. We suspect they must have been flea bites. I have complained to the tour operator and received a very unsatisfactory reply. I would avoid this hotel at all costs.

We had the misfortune to go to Ostend in August 06 where we stayed at "The Ambassador", although due to there being no dining facilities "catering" was provided at the nearby George V.
I can honestly say this was the worst holiday I have ever been on. Food at The George V was meagre and inedible; after only one meal we chose to make our own arrangements elsewhere. The staff at The George V and The Ambassador were equally rude and unhelpful. My advice to anyone is Don’t go there.
Having been on more holidays in more places than I could possibly recall this was by far the worse experience and I have just finished my first ever letter of complaint to the tour operator.

We were situated in the centre of Ostend ~ prime location for shopping and unfortunately thieves. There were (the ones I heard about) 6 rooms broken into in the 4 days we were there.
Security of the hotel (it was stated 24 hour reception) was NIL and a prime target for anyone walking in of the streets. Reception was on the 1st floor but the lift was accessible from the street which went to all floors.
Dining room not big enough for all guests so they used the lounge ~ therefore no lounge. Bar was big enough for c. 20 people and there were at least 200 people dining. Barman wouldn't let any assist him (it was HIS bar) so a long wait to obtain a drink. Food was meat and potatoes and as the waitress said rudely when I asked where is the veg "as I told you last night, as always, there is salad".
Our room was in the attic (safe from burglars as the lift didn't get that far) where the ceiling sloped and the bathroom door had to be ajar before we could open the window.
