More Traveller Reviews of Albena Resort Hotel Choice
Great!!!
from jaygaz29
Only stayed a week, found hotel was okay we got a late deal through first choice - found the hotel room was very clean - pools were small and not the one advertised in the brochure but first choice did make we aware of this. Beach was lovely - Meet loads of wonderful people. Food was not that great but you had pizza and chips served all day with plenty of fruits or salad to choose from and always great cakes for desert. Shopping in Albena centre was not great but the best time to visit Albena Centre is on the night time the place really comes alive - we strolled down there at 7pm it was wonderful. The other place to go is dobrich you can get a taxi to this shopping place this is where all the locals go shopping we bought many shoes and clothes.Just remember when you are going not to expect 5 star food and prepare yourself and you will be fine. We really enjoyed ourselves. Just good you will have fun I am 30 and my mum is 57 and we both enjoyed it.
Holiday from HELL

This has got to be the worst place for holidays for kids in the world, there was nothing for the two kids to do(we have 2 girls 10 and 5)all they could eat was bread rolls and ice cream. We went for two weeks all inclusive which was a ripp off as when we looked in the brocure from Falcon,First choice they had copied and pasted a picture of the pool from another hotel and put it on our hotel, the pools we got were no more than 20 feet by 10 feetOne week before we left we got a letter telling us the kids club was not on(Thanks for the heads up Falcon the only reason we wanted to go their was for the kids). The food was inedible, cold and repetitive, the all inclusive was watered down beer which you had to wait ages for until the staff felt like serving you and then you got it in a paper cup.The minerals were all watered down with tapwater as you could taste it when you brushed your teeth and the local spirits were very bad copies of imported drinks. The only form of entertainment for kids was an air hockey table which cost 3 leva every time which kids finish in about 3 minutes and the internet which cost 8 leva an hour. The hotel looked like a comunity centre. You could use the pool in a sister hotel but i thought that when you looked at a brocure you got what you paid for and didnt have to go somewhere else to swim.We ate every night at Albena centre which you have to pay to get to and from and the food there was not great there either(What is their problem with beef or steak?all they can give you is fatty, greasy, inedible veal.)You cant look at anything without shop assistants hanging over your shoulder making you feel like a criminal.God forbid you have to use a toilet in the centre as the smell and flies are disgusting and then you have to pay for the privilage to use them even if you are eating or drinking there.Back to the hotel, the Falcon reps were just useless and i felt that they were just biding their time till they could get out of there as if you asked them anything they just shrugged their shoulders and said "Yeah its quiet here".In your room you get a list of rentable items including playing cards, cots, baby bottle heaters etc.If you wanted anything washed it was 3.50 leva per item. You are not allowed to use the mini fridge for personal items as it is stocked with stuff you have to pay for.Never again will we go their and let this be a warning to all who are even thinking of going their with kids!

I have worked in catering and hospitality for the last 30 years so I am pretty fussy. We did not pay all that much for our weeks fully inclusive stay £300 each, for that I was not expecting to much. I’m please to say that the hotel, food, staff, resort etc far superseded my expectations. Don’t get me wrong this is not 5 star but value for money and 3 stars it would be hard to beat. We had a great time and if ever I see another offer at that price I would return Steve Rebindaine
Fantastic Holiday

We are a family of six with a 2 year old boy and we have just arrived back from Albena Beach Club. After reading all the reviews I was aprehensive about our holiday. I needn't have been we had a great time the hotel is beautiful located right on the beach the rooms were immaculate and cleaned every day ( never in self catering have I had this!) pools were clean and warm enough to swim, and the staff what can i say amazing so warm and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. On the down side we went with Balkan Holidays which I wouldn't recommend as everyone who travelled with them had their flights messed up some by days. Food wasn't fantastic but there was fresh bread salads and loveley joints of meat what more could you want. The entertainment was poor mainly quiz nights and bingo but we amused ourselves and relaxed alot for great entertainment try the fiesta night not to be missed. Resort of Albena is beautiful and so clean no crime and the people are very trusting I hope that this is not contaminated by us tourists. All in all a wonderful hotel and resort just dont expect spain and you'll have a ball!!!! Drink was great all inclusive and so cheap after 11pm when you had to pay, loveley cocktails (very strong!!!) Delian and Ilian the bartenders make a mean cappucino and tia maria coffee
awful hotel

we went to albena for a 2nd time, the area of albena is lovely, very clean and safe, the people are wonderful, so what happened to the albena beach club I do not know! we went all inclusive, the first and last time I ever do that in europe! the hotel staf were ignorant and rude, they couldnt even smile to say goodmorning! I must say the breakfast was good, and the variety very good, cereals, fruit ,breads, cold meats cheese, everything you could think of, until you get to the hot food, it was discusting, the pool was very small so we used to go the one behind our hotel, it was nice and big, we ventured into the dinner hall one lunch time only to feel like we were back in the school dinner hall! the food looked like it had been there for a good day or so! we never ate at the hotel after that, one lady told me, she had chicken and it was pink! the drinks part of the all inclusive? you could only have one sort of beer and it had to be in a plastic cup, you could not order more than 4 drinks at a time? very hard when you are in a party of 7!! there was no house rum,you had to pay for bacardi, the tea and coffee avaliable after the breakfast hall closed would not be served until the stroke of 10am not a minute before our room? the shower broke and fell of the wall 3 times, it got embarrassing asking them to come and refix it, our air con leaked, and the balcony door didnt locl, not good when you are on the ground floor! no one wanted to help us, it was appaling, like I said at the begining of this essay! we had been to bulgaria before and it is a wonderful place, plenty to do, see and eat, the food in the resort was second to none, fantastic and very reasonable, although they have gone into the euro now, so may get a bit more expensive, just don't book to go to the albena beach club, you may regret it!
lovely

Me and my mother went to the albena beach club for 1week, we have been on lots of holidays and this one was just as good as the rest. The area is lovely and there is plenty to do. The hotel was clean and the rooms where cleaned daily, the food i thought was lovely there was a great selection and it was always cooked properly. I found there was no problems with wasps or any kind of bug. The only complaint i have is yes the indoor pool was absolutley freezing and there where jelly fish in the sea. The animation team where really friendly and made sure that there was always something for you to do, if you choose to do so. I would highly recommend going to this hotel.
very pleasant- M&J Ireland

My husband and I along with our 2 kids aged 5 and 3 stayed at the albena beach club for 2 weeks in August. The hotel was spotless, our room overlooked the beach and the weather was beautiful 30-32 degrees. However here are the little things that you need to hear. We went all inclusive and there was a great variety of food for everyone especially for kids, plenty of fresh fruit, juices veg etc but it became very monotonous, same meat different sauce!! The food overall is quite bland, the bulgarians haven't mastered the art of cooking yet! There are 2 pools right on the beach but very small and no slides etc for kids. We spent our days at the Gergana pool just down the road much better for kids. Entertainment at night was by the gergana pool. Took a trip to the dolphanarium in varna very worthwhile, shopping in varna is a must!!!! It is so cheap well worth a visit, shopping in varna is half the price of the resorts. Loads of amusements for kids in albena and there was alittle "noddy" train that went into the resort every 15 min or so. It was a very relaxing holiday and we would go back again but would probably stay at the hotel Gergana next time.
Not too bad although not to be recommended

Me and my partner went for a week in the end of september/beginning of october 2006. We were lucky the weather you couldn't fault but the week before and after totally miserable! Anyway the hotel itself was clean and the maids did come everyday. The staff were ok but not the best. All inclusive does not include the mini bar and you are not aloud to use the fridge! They do use proper coke, sprite and fanta which is good, but the food was always just warm and when it was busy they was rushing cooking and some food was raw. We was lucky and never caught any bugs. The swimming pools are plastic (except the inside one) and what you get from B n Q! and sooooo cold that you cant go in them! Wasps were a pain and wouldnt leave you alone. I am only 19 and my partner 35 and there is no nightlife or entertainment around the area so we often found ourselves in bed by 10pm. We had kareoke which was awful and bingo which lasted 30 mins once, every other night was boring. There are alot of germans and they are treated with more respect and the food was cooked to their liking, although they weren't ignorant. The bellboy wouldnt leave after taking our suitcases up to our room until we tipped him, which i found a bit rude. First choice were good. We went to varna one day and what a disater! Couldnt wait to get back to the hotel. The taxi drivers were nasty and just wanted a fair. We was looking for the bus station one day and they told us wrong and we waited near were they were for 2hours and they just bugged us offering to take us. Went to a chinese one day and that was awful! I wouldnt go to bulgaria again and there is alot of thieves about and muggings. Overall not the best holiday we have ever had.
Go There

Me and my partner have just returned from 2 weeks at the Albena Beach Club and loved it. We were a bit wary at first after reading a few bad reviews but needn't have worried. The food was great - it can get a bit samey if you have the same everyday but there is a good variety and we did not get bored of it. We found the staff friendly and helpful and there's plenty to do outside the hotel as well with numerous bars, restaurants, shops, mini golf etc and the people are really friendly. We would definitely go back there.
The Worst Holiday Ever!
from RosieDack
We went in July /August 2006. This was an all inclusive holiday costing £730 each. Let me just say that the area where we stayed in Bulgaria was OK with plenty to do and most of the locals were very friendly. Some of the trips that we did go on were good, especially the 4x4 jeep safari and the quad bikes but others were badly managed and sometimes the coaches turned up very late, or didn't have enough seats. The hotel was our biggest disappointment though and it ended up spoiling what could have been a reasonable time. This holiday was supposed to be a special fortnight to celebtrate my 50th birthday - it turned out to be the worst holiday I've EVER had and believe me I've been on many holidays, usually twice a year. We booked 4 rooms through Balkan holidays for 2 weeks at the hotel Albena Beach Club S. When we booked the holiday the plane was supposed to fly from Southampton, where we live, direct to Bulgaria, a trip of approx. 3 hours. However a week before the flight was due to fly, we were told that it would now have to go via Manchester - we ended having to stay on the plane at manchester for nearly 3 hours, as we weren't allowed off or given any refreshments! We eventually arrived at 6am at the hotel in Bulgaria after 9 hours total traveling time & were given 4 rooms, as booked but were then told that we could only have 3 as we had only apparently booked 3! After a lot of heated discussions with the hotel staff, we were eventually given the 4 rooms, although they did it begrudgingly and only then the next day, after they had admitted they had made a mistake! The food at this hotel was at its best mediocre and at its worst disgraceful. It seemed that if the food wasn't used at one session, it was served up again at the next! Milk was sometimes off, cheese warm, lots of greasy food. All over the dining room, the fridges and drinks machines seem to be leaking as the floor was forever wet with towels constantly around the base. 4 of our party of 8 were taken ill with serious stomach upsets for almost a whole week. We will NEVER go anywhere near Bulgaria again - you only get one chance at a first impression...
Had a fantastic holiday at the albena beach club. Always plenty of food around which tasted great, very comfortable apartment. Had a 1 bedroom one which was great. Every one was very helpful and polite. Albena is great, and an evening stroll into the town is lovely. only... more
