We chose the Pinewood Hotel as we found a good rate. I looked on HW and the reviews were mixed- but because of the price we decided to go for it. The hotel is ok- but not great. The hotel is outside of the historical centre. The hotel is on a main road which was not a problem. The hotel is not far from the metro which is only a 5 to 10 minutes walk. The transport links are good- the metro is very quick, only 5 minutes ride too the Vatican
If the hotel had been in a better location it would have been ideal. Although it was fine in the day time, the Hotel is in a residential area and I was not keen to walk about at night. There were no restaurants or bars nearby which you could easily walk to at night, which meant we had to use the car.
The staff were all helpful and friendly. All in all, the hotel was adequate for our needs, while we were there the hotel was being refurbished and we were fortunate to have a newly refurbished room, the Jacuzzi was a real bonus. It’s not a good looking hotel, the breakfast is the usual continental breakfast and buffet style and was fine. The location and the hotel is not ideal for a romantic weekend etc but more than ideal if you are just looking for a good clean hotel as a base to explore Rome historical sites.

We booked this hotel as a "secret location" on Lastminute and we were pleasantly suprised. The rooms were nice and spacious with TV and air con. The bathroom had a jaquzi bath and marble tiles on the floors and walls. The hotel bar was expensive but there is a bar just 5 minutes from the hotel. There is also a supermarket just two buildings down. Breakfast was a really nice extra, they had a good selection of fresh food, including scrambled egg, croisants and fruit. The staff were friendly and helped alot with directions.
Overall the only reason I would not stay at this hotel again is because of its location. Although the bus stopped just outside, it was a 15 minute ride. The metro was a 10 minute walk however the area around it didn't feel safe so we tried to use the buses more often. Also, there were no restaurants and only one bar that we found near by so we felt like we had to come away earlier as we had to travel back out of the centre. Some people may prefer this location as it was out of the hussle and bustle of the city and the transport was really cheap, one euro for 75 minutes of travel on bus or metro.
It cost us 55 euro in a taxi from Ciampino airport and we were glad we didn't use the public transport to get there as in the dark and it wouldn't have felt safe.
For our return to the airport we had a better idea of directions and caught the metro to the central "terminal" and the airport bus from here for about 15 euro each.
