It was a great one night stay
Well I read alot of bad reviews to this hotel and wondered if I had done the right thing by keeping my booking. Well I can confirm that I did - they stay was great. The room was comfortable, clean and tidy. Plenty of towels with tea/coffee facilities. The bed was comfortable and the linen was fresh and clean. We had booked for an evening meal and when we went to the resturant they advised us that they had a big wedding on and although they would be happy to accommodate us if we wanted a bit of peace and quite they would be happy to... more
Stay Clear
I stayed at the Merrion in March, and quite honestly can say it is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed in. The bathroom was dirty, wallpaper was coming away from the wall, the bed linen was filthy and I woke up the following morning with insect bites. I was moved to another room after complaining about the bed linen, but the second room was also in need of refurbishment. After sending two letters to the manager I am still awaiting a response !!!!!
Never Again!
First time in Leeds on business, and won't be rushing back to this hotel. Appeared OK on arrival actual reception area very nice, but had to argue with the reception staff, following a luke warm greeting, that my rate was B&B not room only.....they still billed me for every breakfast at the end of the 5 days. Also fairly unhelpful with other requests, such as directions, bus info etc. Room could be described as grubby at best.Dusty, walls stained, sheets and bedspreads worn and torn. Bathroom verging on the unhygienic. Favourite trick... more
Do the staff actually work here?
My work was required to go to Leeds for a conference. We needed SEVENTEEN rooms. The Merrion was the only place we could find to accomodate all of us (which wasn't necessary, but helpful). We arrived in two lots - those that arrived first seemed to jave fewer problems problems, but the few of us who arrived later had several problems. I was issued a key which wouldn't open my room. So back to reception I went where the manager followed me up to verify that my key didn't work. And none of his keys worked! They couldn't find a key so... more
Not worth double!
Stayed at the Merrion hotel on business in Leeds and found its location very convenient as extremely central however the external appearance, as with many city centre hotels left alot to be desired. Inside at first it appeared to be nice, clean and comfortable however on closer inspection of my room found a ladies earring swept with the dust into the corner of the bathroom floor. Obviously not that clean then!! A collegue also had to change rooms as the heater was not working in the one he was allocated. Food was lovely and the staff... more
Hated it!
We don't expect a hotel to be perfect, but we do expect the essentials to be provided for adequately. Our greeting on arrival was lukewarm. The key to our room was inoperative and there wasn't a replacement. They weren't surprised by this fact! (room 205) We had to continually ask to be let into our room by a member of staff using the master key. Very inconvenient to all concerned. Once inside the room it was like ice. Upon investigation the radiator was stone cold and the windows were letting in a very cold draught accenuated by no... more
Thanks, but not thanks
I stayed here for just one night when I was in Leeds for business. What can I say to make this hotel justice, not much. Standard from the late 1970, poor quality in terms of room standard, beds etc, you name it. Maybe this was a great hotel once, it looked that way when I first saw it, but today it doesn't give much of a value. The food in the restaurant was of poor quality and service almost non existing. However, reception staff did all they could to be helpfull and thats very much appriciated, but I had to say that I'm never going to... more
Not the best deal in Leeds
This is a nice enough hotel - clean, comfortable, etc. It is centrally located next to one of the main shopping areas. But watch for the hidden extras. I found an internet deal then ended up paying another £12 for breakfast and nearly £18 for car parking! They do have a deal with the car park but only if you arrive and leave within quite strict hours (not good if you're on business or holiday for more than overnight!). So my cheap rate ended up at around £95 for one night. Trust me, there are better deals about if you look for them.
Clean, Warm & Comfortable.
I recently stayed in this hotel for five nights. My room was spaceous, clean and the furnishing was warm and welcoming. Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The continental Breakfast wasn´t very exciting but definently not worse than in most of the hotels I´ve stayed in before. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again.
Oh dear
Where to begin! This is not a good hotel. A very noisy location, with many rooms overlooking the quadrangle of a SHopping Centre where deliveries are made at all hours. Also, room very tired, breakfast not great and served by staff with poor grasp of English. And, my radiator made a noise like a motorbike, and I got an early morning alarm call at 6.30am, which was very prompt apart from the fact I didn't want a call. On the plus, the welcome was friendly. But never again!
