We had never been to Hotel Marvel or Sunny Beach before but we found to hotel clean, tidy, friendly staff and the food was second to none. One of the best buffets we have ever had.
We would recommend this hotel to anybody and will be back next year.

lovely clean hotel, mainly for couples, pray for the sun!!!!!!!!!
hotel lovely, spotless, spacious rooms, cleaners great, food ok, although same sorts of foods most nights and not very hot. staff were good, didnt speak to much english, we had a medhotels rep there. In our family we had two boys aged 2yrs and 5yrs, wasnt a family orientated hotel, not much for kids apart from small swimming pool(that was freezing cold!)and the magic dance show which lasted 30mins and was on 1 night! we didnt pay for sunbeds around pool as you get wrist band. beach is 2min walk, the sunbeds are approx £2 a day, you can sunbathe on the back of the beach for free though, using your beach towels! we found the sea bit rough sometimes, strong waves, and there were lots of jelly fish, however it was september. weather was cloudy, warmish? few spells of thunder, blowy, nightimes needed cardigan and trousers, kids had blankets on them! september is nearly end of season, so the aquapark had closed, not much for kids on nightimes, apart from bouncy castles, crazygolf, and lots of bars! beware....most places charge to use their toilets 20p and all of them are disgusting, stinking and sometimes just a hole in the ground!! try to use hotel loos much nicer and you know your £1 cocktails will stay down!!! beer cheap, 80p-£1, cocktails bogof in loads of bars, busy nightlife, few prostitutes hanging about, plenty take aways, try their chicken kebabs, lush, We bought 200regal £17 from side cart and they were disgusting, stick to getting them on the plane, cheaper. Try to exchange your currency in england, my friend got conned, by a little kiosk on main street, as theres loads, dont sign for anything, rate over there varies 2.76-2.86,(we got our currency at marks and spencers at 2.92, people trying to sell fake currency too. cash machines sometimes work sometimes not. Overall had lovely break, weather disapointing, hotel good, not really for families though, would go back to bulgaria, maybe in peak season when more to do for kids and weather would be better. However i like to try different destinations but wouldnt put a cross beside bulgaria.
Lovely hotel - shame about the reception staff
I thought the hotel was located in a lovely safe and clean area. The room and bar staff couldnt have been friendlier, and there was always someone cleaning windows or mopping the floors. The big let down were the reception staff. I had heard it from two different couples on two different occasions, that they were very rude and unhelpful, and sometimes pretend they cannot understand english! Well they did live up to their reputation and they really let their hotel down.
Nice but very rough around the edges
Myself and my wife just got back from Sunny Bay where we stayed in the hotel Marvel for two weeks....In general the hotel itself was clean and looked well taken care of,the rooms were also clean but basic enough for a "4 star"hotel..I found the hotel a little too far away from the center where all the bars and clubs are,,around a 15 to 20 minute walk or 15 to 20 leva in a taxi(7-10 euro)which will always try to overcharge..in general the staff had very bad english and never went out of their way to help,,,,the food was stink in the hotel and in general around the resort..most of it cold and most dishes i had never heard of before(bring plenty of diarrhoea treatment with you)...Beware of the endless amount of hookers everywhere,,they will rob you in a flash if your gullible... On the up side the resort is lively and the booze is cheap. So in a nutshell, good for a the younger group looking for a good time but not really for the couple and family who wants to relax and enjoy a couple of nights eating out...and finally if something you see looks to good to be true, trust me it isn't and steer clear!!!!!
Enjoyed our stay - cheap and cheerful!
Have just returned from a week in Sunny Beach staying at the Marvel. The hotel was clean and comfortable with a nice terrace and swimming pool (although you did have to be up early to beat the Germans!). The staff were friendly and helpful and rooms are a good size, with a really handy fridge, great for storing drinks in etc. The hotel is at the quieter end of the resort, which is good if like us you like to have the choice of bars and restaurants but don't want to be in the middle of it all. Would recommend a boat trip across to old Nessebar for some more authentic Bulgarian food, drink and souvenirs than can be found in Sunny beach. The only negative about the hotel is that the food is very ordainary, and a bit like waiting for and eating in a school canteen. Like other reviewers here we would recommend eating out. It's so cheap - about £20 for two courses and drinks for two people. Hotel in general probably not really four star but a decent hotel in a cheap location for a good week in the sun.
worst holiday ever
we are just back from sunnybeach on the 16th june 06 we were staying at the hotel marvel and have to say it has been the worst place i have ever stayed. the hotel itself was clean and beautiful surroundings but around the pool was very dangerous fotr children. just outside the restaurant the floor was wet and my son aged 2 fell and cracked his head. the staff in the hotel were the most sulky and unpleasant people i have ever met and could barely speak a bit of english. i asked for tomato sauce and they told me they didnt understand and laughed and walked away. when we arrived were were not welcomed we were given are keys and had to find are own way. there were only a few lifts and at breakfast and dinner time there was no chance to catch one of these which was a hassle when you had a pram. The hotel catered for germans the food was always cold and never cooked properly. the only thing that the children had to eat was chips every night. the hotel was crowded with germans who hated children and very ignorant i have no problems with germans as my aunt is one but the germans that stayed in this hotel thought the world owed them something. outside the hotel they flyed all types of flags but the irish so therefor the irish arent welcome.
Enjoyed our stay!
We booked a Thomson last minute holiday to Bulgaria only a couple of days before we travelled. We chose to opt for the 'Supersaver' which meant that we chose the hotel rating, the resort and the board basis, but could have ended up at any of four hotels. Luckily, we were informed on arrival at Bourgas Airport that we had been allocated The Marvel Hotel. We dropped off at two other hotels before ours, and we were really pleased with our hotel compared to the others. We would definately advise the 'Supersaver' as it saved us well over £100 booking this way, than booking to go to The Marvel straight off. After arriving in the early hours of the morning, we had a couple of hours sleep and then ventured down for breakfast. There was plenty to choose from, although there could be a queue for the hot selection depending on the time we went down. Breakfast is served between 7am and 10am, but we would advise to go down before 9:30am because they stop replenishing food items after this time. We went down at around 9:45am one morning and had very little to choose from, so quickly plated some breakfast up before everything was taken away. We went to get a glass of juice, only to be told that they would not bring any more glasses or cups out for the hot or cold drinks as it was almost 10am. Dinner on the first evening was fairly limited, even though it is a buffet style every night. Again, we came down half an hour before the end of Dinner service and found that there was very little left to choose from. After this occasion, we made a point of going down to Dinner at 6pm/6:30pm each night and the food was far better. Our advice: the earlier you go down for Dinner, the better choice you will have and therefore better value for your money. The hotel itself is beatiful, immaculately clean with Housekeeping staff working throughout the day and night to maintain a high standard. The bedrooms are extremely spacious, with contemporary decor and a great facilities. Rooms are serviced each day, with towels changed every other day and bed linen changed once a week. The pools and poolside area was beautiful, although the pools were freezing cold and we only ventured in a couple of times. The hotel is only a short stroll away from the beach and main promenade which stretches the length of the resort, which is also where the bars start. There is a train that picks up outside of the hotel every 10 minutes which costs 2 levs each (approx 80p), which will take you to the main nightlife area where you will find plenty more bars, restaurants and clubs. Be careful when changing your currency as there are many currency exchangers on the promenade who will offer a great rate with no commission, but have been known to give counterfeit notes. The Bellevue Hotel, which is right by The Marvel but located just off the promenade give a very competitive rate, no commission, are legitimate and offer a better rate than The Marvel too. The only other advice I can give is to take a jacket with you, and pack sensibly as the nights are freezing cold in Sunny Beach. We had to buy two jackets while we were there as it was just unbearable. You will definately love this hotel, and the fact that Bulgaria is just so cheap. We even ate out on two occasions in a lovely restaurant called 'The Caribby', with a two course meal and drinks for the two of us costing only 32 levs (approx £12.00). Definately try this hotel if your looking for a fantastic holiday in Sunny Beach!!
Very nice hotel, popular with the Germans!
We stayed at the hotel in June 2005. The Hotel is very nice with large spacious bedrooms. Everywhere was really clean and well maintained. Although there is a lot of building work going on in this area, we did not notice any noise, etc. The location of the hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the resort centre, however, there is a train which runs along the promenade which you can catch - we found this took twice as long as walking though! The food was very much geared towards Germans as there were a lot staying in the hotel (many of whom were rude and arrogant). However, as it is so cheap to eat out in Sunny Beach, we did so almost every evening. The only complaint I have about the hotel is that some of the staff (not all of them) were quite rude and unhelpful. I found that a couple of the girls on reception almost resented dealing with the guests! Having said that, overall I would recommend this hotel.
Great Resort Pity About The Hotel
Just returned from Hotel Marvel sunny beach. Loved the resort itself, plenty to see and do. Make sure you visit Nessebar on the daily ferry, well worth seeing. Bad points would have to be the Hotel. Rooms had cream carpet which were filty. Bath was broken, toilet was leaking and the rooms were never hoovered or cleaned properly. Also most importantly the RECEPTION staff were the most rude and ignorant people I have ever met. Especially(THE ONE WITH THE BRIGHT DYED RED HAIR), don't expect any information or common courtesy from her. In the 21 countries I've been to visit, she is definitely the most rude and obnoxious person I have ever encountered. Then again well worth a mention is one of the waitresses called ANGELINA, she was very helpful and friendly and made such a fuss of our kids everytime we went in to the restaurant or bar. Overall I'd definitely go back, just not to the Marvel Hotel.
worst ever hoiday, rude ignorant unhelpful staff in hotel, tatty resort
Worst ever holiday, resort is tatty, hotel staff in marvel are blatantly rude and unhelpful with exception of a a few waitresses and porters., Prepare to pay extra to use toilets everywhere even in restauarants where you are having a meal, most toilets still never appear to be cleaned, hotel itself is ok but rooms are never properly cleaned, Gneral feeling of being exploited everywher we went if you are unlucky enough to end up in sunny beach leave and go to next town of Nessebar
hotel marvel better ones in sunny beach for 4 star
rooms very large ,carpeted all through ,good sized fridge only 2mins walk to beach.no games room for kids ,no entertainment.food was horrible always cold no matter what time you went down to eat .electric and hot water kept going off at peak times.a lot of building work going on around hotel did not bother us there was no drilling just painting ,tiling ,flagging paths were like obstacle courses trying to get round building materials .we had some flash floods roads were flooded and very muddy sunny beach was beautiful 45 levs for taxi one way about £18 hotel charges for sunbeds 4lev a day if you can get one
