A loverly location and excellent service
from Dames21
We arrived only to find our room had been upgraded for no extra charge! (Which is always nice). I have stayed here 2 years running for the Fire Brigade's Xmas party, and have loved both times! The room was fantastic, the meal was delicious and the staff couldnt do enough to accomodate our party! I would just like to say a big thankyou to everyone at the Wrea Head for making our stay so enjoyable!
Best ever xmas Party
from fire379
Wrea Head Country House Hotel Scarborough Date: 7/8th January 2008 Reviewer: Official Green Watch Christmas Party Organiser [--](I gave the title to myself) We have stayed at country hose hotels for our xmas parties for 14years now. WHY! Previous to this we went to the usual mass produced christmas party followed by the hour long trip home in a coach full of freinds trying not to be sick while others are cautiously letting off unwanted wind and claiming it to be their wifes so i decided we deserved something better than this. Since then we have stayed at different country house hotels all over North Yorkshire for just a few pounds more than we would have paid for the meal and coach combined. This is our second year at the Wrea Head as we had a really good night last year. Our first visit to the hotel last year i stayed an extra night as a treat for my wife(in the hope of getting a bit of extra nooky) and because our visit was so good 8 couples stayed for two nights this year and 14 for the party night. This is typical of a lot of country house hotels, beautifull house in magnificent countryside. The hotel decor is maybe a little dated but it retains many of the traditional features with cosy log fires and comfy seating. The bedrooms are of all different sizes and you will only get what you pay for,so if you want a bigger room with a big Bay window pay a little bit extra. The staff I cannot pass on enough praise to all the staff in the Wrea Head, nothing was too much trouble. Anne the manergeres made every possible effort to make everyone relax and enjoy their stay. Dave the Head waiter, barman and anything else that needed doing man was excellent . The chefs cooked an excellent meal and timed the service forall 28 of us very well and delivered us a very good meal. We enjoyed our stay so much some of us are going back in March for another night. Thank you Anne and all your staff for our best Christmas party in 14 years.

Good family weekend
from SheffieldDavs
Extended family break to celebrate a golden wedding... Had a superb time - welcomed and looked after superbly by the charming manageress. Food very good and accommodation comfortable. Gorgeous grounds (no one objected to us playing cricket on the lawn). Some eccentric staff but overall extremely enjoyable and will definitely go again.
Hot Hot Hot
from WalesHappy1
What more can i say,yes it was hot... the hotel i mean and this was a freezing cold weekend in Scarborough. The Hotel is in a lovely setting and the staff were friendly and courteous at all times. Our room (room 2) was fairly large with a large comfortable double bed, wardrobe, large ensuite with toilet shower and a bath. The room was clean and warm although the decor was very bright ie flowery but nothing to complain about. The tiles in the bathroom needed regrouting but like i say it was clean and tidy. The food was excellent as was the professionalism shown by the staff. Prices were a little steep but then again like i say the food was excellent, but paying £4.00 for a bottle of Black Sheep bitter touched a nerve although i still bought it.On the whole if you like to be pampered then this is halfway there and you will never be cold.
Cosy, Comfortable and Friendly
from tll35
If you want to stay at a quintessential country house hotel that is cosy, comfortable and friendly you can do no better that the Wrea Head Hotel in Scarborough. The setting is idyllic and the Manageress, Anne Hodgson cannot do enough to please you. The food was also very tasty which is not always the case in English hotels!
Lovely country house hotel with superb food
from ladychull
Country hotel in a beautiful setting. Our room was comfortable and had lovely views. The hotel itself has many cosy and accessible rooms (library, bar, lounge) - we particularly liked the bar which, although decorated in traditional style, was very striking. The staff were very helpful and the barman was a great character and provided us with details about the hotel's history. The food was superb - extremely high quality and served well.
What a place!

Just a quick note to say what a fantastic time we had at Wrea Head. Tremendous setting, out of this world food and great hospitality all played a part in a really relaxing and enjoyable experience. Anne, the manageress, seemed to work every hour to ensure the smooth running of the hotel but yet was always cheerful and approachable no matter what time of day. We will definitely be back!
We won't come back unless its free.....

We recently treated ourselves to what we thought would be a luxury break at a country house hotel. We subsequently chose Wrea Head Country House Hotel, Scarborough as this area of the country has many happy memories and we wanted the oppurtunity to visit without the kids in tow! Undeniably the location of the hotel is superb with long views over the ha-ha into the rolling Yorkshire countryside so as we rolled up the drive on the first evening all seemed well. However the room (19) proved to be dusty with a malfunctioninng TV, a bathroom in need of re-decorating and a poor view out of the window as they had not got around to removing the rotting remains of a marque whose pieces were strewn all over the ground. (PS> We could only open 1 window as the other was jammed shut as had been overpainted so many times - and it was a very, very hot day!!)) The first hitch came when our room key did not have a key fob and we were allocated an elastic band! Things only got worse during the first nights dinner as the duck was so resiliant it could not be cut with a steak knife and had to be sent back to the kitchen and substituted for something else. The following morning the breakfast portions were poor but freshly cooked and toast and tea/coffee were plentiful - but had to be requested constantly. We returned back to the hotel on the 2nd night to find that our room had not been serviced - no doubt something to do with the elastic band that was substituting for a key fob! Like all well trained hotel guests we had returned our keys to reception in the morning expecting to get our room serviced - after all this was A 3 star hotel! There were further problems with long, long delays for the 2nd evening meal, being charged for a newspaper we hadn't ordered and other minor details that would be too tedious to enter into. Although the management were friendly and apologetic for the poor service we had received during our stay and indeed bought us a complimentary bottle of wine it did not in any way make amends for what had turned out to been a very dissappointing stay. The only thing that sustained us for that few days was the glorious weather - thank god it didn't rain as we would have to have gone home!
a home from home

I booked this through Superbreak. A family room at £120 per night for 3 nights Breakfast included for adults and £5 extra for the two kids. It was a very late booking and so I had not read reviews and had no expectations except that I hoped it was worth the money. The hotel is an old country house, so a long driveway, a library, bar and conservatory as well as the dining room are available to guests. 1stly when we arrived we had a lovely warm welcome from Nicky on reception and Ann the manager. I have never had a chatty welcome before. This set the tone for our stay. Although there was a wedding the next day, we were not ignored or made to feel in the way despite the busyness of the staff getting ready. I was impressed that Ann was always on hand and not hidden away. The room had plenty of space. It was right at the top which meant lots of stairs but was not hot with lots of opening windows. I asked for extra tea and milk the first night and was delighted to be given a jug of milk rather than cartons because housekeeping was closed. So we were assisted and expectations exceeded. Yes there was marks on walls etc but general cleanliness was fine. In other places I could look under chairs for dust or on tops of door frames. This ought to be done by staff but it didn't detract from the stay in any way. From a family point of view the staff, particularly Mark, were very accommodating as I kept ordering off menu for the kids meals. Yes being able to cook pasta and a pot of grated cheese is easy, but some places just say no, nor have I ever been as comfortable asking. Breakfast was fairly standard and perhaps not huge portions, but you could have any combination on the menu. Some things were at supplements but that is often the case for the more expensive items. We were in room 21, I think that was the total of rooms and that made it a pleasant experience and more select. The grounds are great. We were able to eat on the terrace and conservatory which was less formal with the kids. I enjoyed and almost chose to stay an extra night even at the cost.

This hotel is set in lovely ground in North Yorkshire. The bedroom we had was small and dirty, the bedding with the exception of the sheets, were very grubby, the head board so dirty you couldn't put your head on it. Electrical items e.g. lamp and kettle did not have up to... more
