Clifton Hotel

Looked alright From pictures. Very dated ? Preservation order. Absolutley NO ENTERTAINMENT. Ballroom used for dining room

We stayed at the Clifton Hotel in march 2008 and had a very good deal for a 2 night stay via Travelzoo. The hotel is based right on the sea front but approx 5 minutes drive from the promenade. The hotel itself is extremely dated and the lift and facilites are many many years old. We received an "upgrade" to a superior room but the standard rooms looked much better - certainly room 307 had seen better days with no double glazing, frayed curtains, lumpy bed and a bathroom from prehistoric times!! We arrived at the hotel. Free parking which is a plus. The downstairs reception was very nice, also the dining room. The Lift is something else, so old fashioned and in such a position that no-one can walk by and if you should open the lift door without realising someone is walking by, they get the door straight in their face. Also I don't think the iron door part had been cleaned for years, as this was full of dirt. Very heavy for ladies to open. Just returned from a stay at the clifton hotel. 2 lady friends who both needed e break badly.We booked 2 single rooms. My room was fine with a three quarter size bed. Nice bathroom and all very clean.Wonderful view.My friends room was north facing and also had a wonderful view but when the wind blew there was a right old draft coming thru the window area.But as we were only there for 2 days it was ok.Maybe a double glazing touch there unless the ageof the building doesnt allow. We stayed at this hotel for Valentine's Day. We were allocated a superior double room with seaview but were disappointed in the size of the room. In fact, I had to go to reception to enquire if we had been given the wrong type.The receptionist could not understand my concerns and confirmed it was a superior room and seemed a bit annoyed that I had to ask.
