The usual formula
Typical accommodation and hospitality from a big hotel chain (Best Western in this case) -- the usual formula.
OK, but could do better
My husband and I were in Harrogate for the Ambex conference and stayed at the Cedar Court for 3 nights 27th to 30th June 2006. Our room was clean, although no one had moved the shower curtain to clean for a while as there was a mould growing behind it, and there were only half the shower rings making the curtain tangle round you when in the shower! The iron and trouser press didn't work in our room, but when we reported it to the front desk they brought us an iron and ironing board straight up. The staff were pleasant and... more
Pleasantly Surprised
Stayed for one night March,2006. Having read previous reviews on this site which were not entirely positive, I was very apprehensive about my stay. I did speak to the Hotel directly to make my booking and found the staff to be extremely helful and acommodating. My room was very clean and had everything I needed. The reception staff were very helful and facilitated and early check-in that I had requested. The Breakfast choice was very good with everything from cereal to full cooked if wanted. There was also a selection of cheese and meats and... more
Not that bad!
Stayed here for three days, room was large and clean the decor could do with a little updating but bathrooom was spotless. Beds were very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and seemd quite efficient, we had one problem with a faulty hairdrier but that was our only complaint. Overall the price was expensive for the room but talking to others this seemed to be a Harrogate thing. Definetley not as bad as I was expecting from the reviews on here but some room for improvement.
well worth a visit
Having stayed at Best Western Hotels previously this hotel looked perfect until i read the reviews which really put me off. I decided to still book because of the location and because i really like the hotel chain. I was really pleased on arrival. The hotel is very impressive and decorated to a high standard. the reception staff were extremely helpful, friendly and polite (especially the night porter) our room, although only a standard room, was very big and spacious and had everything in you could want. The bed had to be the... more
Update
I previously wrote about the unacceptable noise at the Cedar Court being kept awake until the early hours of the morning, and that I had complained both to the management and Best Western. This is to update that the response I had from both left me disatisfied, as I felt they should have refunded the cost of my room for that night. I received no apology only the offer of a free nights stay, why would I want to stay again at a hotel that keeps you awake. So you are warned!!!!!!
Never again
My partner & i had the misfortune of staying in what i call the worst hotel we have ever been to and we travel alot, on arrival the staff need to be refreshed in customer relations as on checking in we may have well been invisible for 10 minutes, when we finally got our key to our room for a 4 star hotel we were not impressed, it seems housekeeping are in a rush to get rooms ready they forget to clean them properly, the food in the restaurant was not the best we have ever had and on our second evening we opted to eat out , overall in our... more
Do Not Stay At This Hotel
Just retruned home after a night at the Cedar Court, Harrogate. 1. We telephoned the hotel twice en-route for directions, the directions given were compeletely wrong and involved our taking a round trip to Knaresborough. Crazy thing is, when we DID get to the hotel we discovered that the first call we had made was from RIGHT OUTSIDE THE HOTEL. The staff appeared to have no idea where the hotel WAS. We had pre-booked 6 weeks earlier an "EXECUTIVE ROOM'", when we checked in the booking form at the hotel said room type "STD", I... more
More basic than luxury!
Having stayed for 2 nights in aug 04 we arrived to a not so warm welcome room not ready, & when it was not what i would class as 4*, ordered a bar meal as dining room was full it took an 1hr to make, advise try local b&b's, save your money!
An unpleasant nightmare.
I booked a two night stay at the Cedar Court Hotel arriving 31 December and departing 2 January. The property looks good from the outside, but problems start the moment you check in, with a very unprofessional, dismissive front desk. The room was shabby with wallpaper seams coming unstuck and curtains not properly fixed; the doorstop was loose and rolled across the room upon entry and the bed lumpy, uncomfortable with a pronounced dip in its centre. Inspection of the faulty TV remote control found that it had no batteries. However this... more
